I also feel the same way about taking shots at 2/5, it is much more emotionally tough to make the moves you KNOW you can make for $200 bluffs rather than $500 bluffs
This is over 340 hours or so. I played break even in 2014 over 350 hours but that involved a run up to $4000 followed by going bust. I made a big lifestyle change in February 2015 which basically consisted of stopping drinking while playing poker. I used to get ridiculously drunk 1 out of every 3 times I played and on a "normal" night I would have 5-8 beers. Total 2015 is around 400 hours at $20/hour but I had a really bad January which pushed me to make the lifestyle change.
I realized if I wanted to make poker a serious hobby and potentially a source of serious income I had to cut out the drinking, as much as I love being a lush. Ever since I stopped drinking I have been crushing 1/2. None of the 1/2 regs scare me, I feel like I am in control at all times, my boredom tilt is non-existant, hand selection is solid, I just let the game come to me now. If that means folding all night, so be it. If that means raising AK/AQ all night and missing the flop and c-bets not taking it down, so be it.
I spend a lot more time thinking about how to exploit certain player types these days. 1/2 is fun, but I know I want to move up sooner or rather than later. I am targeting 2016. I think I have enough to work on to get me through 2015.
