"Pacquiao's historic climb in boxing's different divisions has sparked concerns that he's taking prohibited drugs. The Mayweathers have accused Manny of steroid use without evidence and have imprinted to the public the deceptive nature of the Filipino icon.
Ironically, these accusations have its roots from a sporting family strongly associated with shootings, drug use and trafficking, family rivalries, extra-marital affairs and trouble with the law.
In 1993, Floyd Sr. was convicted for drug trafficking and jailed for five years. He was also guilty of smuggling cocaine in boxes of laundry detergent.
In 2006, Roger Mayweather also started a riot when he attacked Zab Judah during a bout with Floyd Jr. He was fined $200,000 and suspended for year. He was also jailed for six months
In 2007, Floyd Mayweather Sr. also found out in that he fathered a 19-year-old light middleweight by name of Jones. The teenager contacted Floyd Sr. because of comments from his friends and relatives that he has resemblance to the Mayweather family. He then requested Mayweather if he would take a DNA test. The DNA test proved positive.
In August 2009, Roger Mayweather was arrested in Las Vegas for attacking one of his former female boxers. Mayweather allegedly hit her several times in the ribs, then tried to choke her, causing her to spit up blood when police arrived. In a interview with HBO, Roger later admitted to choking St. Vil in an effort to restrain her, but denied that he physically struck her.
Police has also search the Rolls Royce car of Floyd Mayweather Jr., who was speculated to be involved in a shooting incident outside the Crystal Palace Skating Center in Las Vegas in August 2009.
The accusation of Pacquiao using performance enhancing drugs should be viewed in light of the family background of the Mayweathers. It is worth noting that the issue of steroid use was first brought up by Senior Mayweather, who has been jailed for drug smuggling and trafficking.
Manny Pacquiao, on the other hand, has instructed Arum to file a slander case on the Mayweather camp for ruining his name and reputation and issuing statements without clear evidence. In spite of this developments, Golden Boy promotions is hopeful that the March 13 mega fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather would push through in Las Vegas."
