+1

How does Floyd not take up this fight. For $40m he can afford to risk his undefeated record, which doesn't seem to mean much to boxing enthusiast anyway. Not a boxing fan, but I watched Cotto-Paquiao and man I was hyped to watch Mayweather-Paquiao. Floyd has to be an idiot to pass up that money. Like others have said in the thread, the best defensive fighter of the decade vs the best offensive fighter. The obvious and only move for boxing.

He probably is at the point where adding $40M to his networth won't change his lifestyle at all.

Pacquiao should have just offered to let Floyd take PEDs and brag that he'd beat Floyd anyway.

lame

Is anyone going to pay $50 dollars to watch Floyd destroy Paulie? I won't.

How many years has Floyd been fighting at 147? And how many real welterweights has he fought? Zero.

Yeah cause it'd all be going to the IRS rather than himself.

These are all just antics. This was done before mediation and then they made some headway. The same thing will happen here. Fight probably doesn't happen on March 13th though.

Dan Rafael on ESPN said there is about a 2 day window to get this fight done if they want to fight on March 13th. I am keeping my fingers crossed, but not expecting anything.

re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Boxing promoters are so ****ing dumb...They have no idea how much Mayweather's brand and marketability have been tarnished (as with pacquiao).

The fact that Mayweather-Malignaggi is an option to them is insane. If Mayweather doesn't fight Pacquiao, Berto-Mosley winner, or Paul Williams in his next fight, he'll have 0 respect amongst boxing fans. His "brand" will be indefinitely tarnished. "If it makes dollars, it makes sense." I always understand/respect this from Floyd despite the hate he gets from a lot of boxing fans. However, cashing on an easy payday at this point does much more damage to his brand and marketability for future fights than good of a 6 or 7 million payday (ya...that's about how much he'll be getting vs Malignaggi imo).

Another factor they don't understand is HBO. Not only will boxing fans protest a Maligaggi-Mayweather type matchup, HBO will as well. Mayweather and Pacquiao will both get extremely lowball offers from them (imo) specifically to prove a point that if they want to make a fight, they have to make a fight the boxing public respects and won't damage the HBO boxing brand.

I'm not out of principle and I'm a huge boxing fan. I think most other big boxing fans feel the same way.

MMA has easily overtaken boxing as the premier combat sport in the world. Boxing still has the biggest 2-3 names and will put on the biggest 2-3 fights every year, but they can't put on nearly 15-20 PPVs a year like MMA and have all of them hit 300K+ with a majority being 600K+. Boxing has a few big names. This fight could have helped fix that for boxing. The two biggest names clashing. Put a stacked undercard to go with this fight, including somebody good enough to fight the winner (Mosley imo). Promote the whole card. With the way media operates today, this would get more coverage than any boxing event in history. It could rekindle interest in boxing as a whole, especially if

A) 3 million buys
B) The fight is dynamite
C) The undercard is promoted, exciting, and features viable new stars

Put those together and you've got a recipe for renewed interest in boxing. And a big enough fight like this could make that interest trickle down to other fighters rather than just the top few, which is what boxing needs.

All of this if the fight happens. If it doesn't, it'll just be another letdown that drives the casual fan further away from the sport. This fight is basically a make or break for the future of boxing as it relates to the casual fan. I'm being just a little dramatic, but it'll either be a massive boon that draws in millions of casual fans to boxing or a massive bust that drives a ton of casual fans away from the sport. MMA (UFC) has done so well because they always keep the casual fans coming back for more. Boxing would be wise to do the same.

I don't know a ton about boxing but I agree with all of this. Plus can you even imagine how insufferable Dana White's rambling will be about how boxing never gives you the fight you want? Not that he would be far off from that but I really don't care to hear him go on about this forever...

I'd be shocked if the fight doesn't happen by the end of the year despite all of this.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Mayweather or Pacquiao (most likely mayweather) all of a sudden decide to make this fight happen. Then, even though the "give in", they have the opportunity to come of well saying "I had to do this for the good of the sport" etc etc bull****

I still think this fight will happen someday, probably not in March. Maybe sometime at the end of the year (hopefully).

Mayweather in 2002 pleaded guilty to two counts of domestic violence in one case and battery in another. In 2005, a jury acquitted him of a third domestic violence charge, a felony, after his accuser changed her story. He reportedly was convicted of battery in his hometown of Grand Rapids, Mich., and he has also been the subject of civil lawsuits accusing him of battery."

Mayweather better ask for random Olympic style drug testing for every one of his fights from now on. If not, people will ask why he only demanded it for Pac.

re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

Ok, so I can't stand Mayweather as a person, and I think Pac is great, but I'm struggling to see who is more at fault here.

Mayweather made a request for drugs testing (which I assume he would be required for also) and Pac has refused. Surely any athelete competing in a contest of this magnitude would happily submit to testing? There's the excuse that taking blood made him weak before a previous fight, but they're not exactly taking a pint out of him. Can the amount of blood they take out of you for a test really make you that much weaker? I can't really see why Pac didn't just say "whatever, get on with it and get the fight sorted".
