I just realized, Pacquiao should have just accepted Mayweather's terms and then greased someone's palms in the NAC to make his "random" test as early as possible.

Basically if this fight doesn't happen b/c of some petty **** like this it'll lose millions of fans permanently. This fight was boxing's great comeback hope...

Probably not. Since the press conference is supposed to be next week, they have to get the fight done by this Saturday at the latest.

I know it doesn't matter much but boxing will definitely lose a fan if this fight doesn't go off.

I would pay to watch Pacquiao fight Clottey or almost anybody that presents a reasonable challenge for him. You know you're going to see an exciting entertaining fight when Pacquiao enters the ring. If Mayweather wants to prove his pound for pound chops let him move up to fight Paul Williams or Sergio Martinez at junior middleweight. Better yet, make a fight with Kelly Pavlik for the middleweight title. I might pay to see that. Otherwise, Mayweather never gets my money again.

re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

The real question imo is how will this affect PPV buys when the fight does happen? Has this left enough of a sour taste in people's mouths to significantly hurt the revenue stream?

Everyone (that means mainstream ldo) in the sports world was talking about this fight a month ago. It was a hot topic, fresh on people's minds, etc. I wouldn't be surprised to see a negative correlation now between the longer this is allowed to fester and the number of buys it gets.

Everyone loses in the end, I don't know why these morons can't see that.

I agree with this to a certain extent. However, if this whole debacle leads to true animosity between the fighters in pre fight press conferences and ****, that will hype the fight a whooooole lot.

Pac agrees to fight Clottey
http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/box...ory?id=4808708

It will be on March 13th, which will be interesting because Mayweather also is supposed to fight on March 13th (he has the MGM booked for that date).

Unfortunately, it seems the pussification of society has integrated itself fully into these fighters. Whereas 40 years ago, all this ****-talking and animosity between the two would have made both fighters desperate for the chance to beat the **** out of each other, it appears that what is left today is bruised egos so strong they don't even want to step in the ring.

I was always a fringe, bandwagon boxing fan, but this **** just reeks of lame.

XYLOCAINE IS A LOCAL ANESTHETIC USED BY MAYWEATHER TO NUMB HIS FISTS SO THAT HE WON'T FEEL THE PAIN OF HIS PUNCHES GIVING HIM AN ADVANTAGE OVER HIS OPPONENT. THIS IS THE REASON WHY SCHAEFFER (Golden Boy CEO) DID NOT BOTHER TO GO TO TEXAS TO SEE THE ARENA BECAUSE TEXAS IS ONE OF THE 49 STATES THAT BAN THE USE OF XYLOCAINE. THE STATE OF NEVADA DOES NOT INCLUDE XYLOCAINE IN ITS LIST OF ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES. IT IS MAYWEATHER WHO IS USING A PERFORMANCE ENHANCING DRUGS BECAUSE XYLOCAINE WILL ENHANCE MAYWEATHER TO PUNCH HARDER BECAUSE HE WILL NOT FEEL THE PAIN IN HIS FISTS.

Proof Number ONE that Floyd Mayweather is a cheater

Proof Number TWO that Floyd Mayweather is a CHEATER

Shane Mosley is fighting Berto on Jan. 30th. Don't underestimate Clottey. He's not popular, but he's a tough opponent. I had him beating Cotto in his last fight.

The irony here is almost too much. Shane's not going to be ready for march. Manny has to fight in march because he's running for office in May. But yeah, you're the knowledgeable one who gets to call other people out on their boxing knowledge. LMAO.

Clottey is a fine opponent and is a top five WW with very close fights against Cotto and Margarito. If Manny's not moving up, then he should be defending his belt against the best possible contender, which is Clottey. Mosley isn't available, Floyd is a *****, and he already beat Cotto, which rules out WWs #2-4. So onto the next best WW, which is Clottey. It's absolutely the most logical fight for him, barring another weight class jump.

With respect to DO_'s prediction, I think this is right.

People overestemate the effect even a mega fight will have at this point. MMA (more specifically UFC) does "better" than boxing because it's more unified. Simple as that. Only having a couple of "name" boxers for the mouth-breathing crowd to follow isn't going to raise and keep boxing on top.

re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

I doubt Mayweather would ever fight Paul Williams.

I think a Pac-Clottey would be interesting. The Cotto-Clottey fight was pretty good. I don't really want to see Pac move up to face someone like Foreman. Mayweather vs Malignaggi would be fitting, the 2 Pac accusers fighting each other.

re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

IMHO, Pacquiao really doesn't need the $40 mil payoff. I'm pretty sure Mayweather does. If this fight really falls through, Pac will make a few million against Clottey. This fight won't save boxing the way the sports press says it would. The fans that would be lost if this fight isn't made, wouldn't watch much past this fight anyways. If you're really into fighting sports, you're really into it, otherwise you watch something else.

I'm disappointed with this fight not getting done, but you move on. Looking forward to Mosley-Berto...

this

although boxing (at its best) is much better (imo) than mma at it's best, boxing absolutely would need to be unified to become relevant. Also, there is not nearly as much boxing talent being developed relative to mma.

re: SE Boxing Thread (still waiting for PBF v. Pac)

oh the hypocrisy! PBF wants the fight to be on a level playing field.

Yet he intentionally came in overweight because he was scared of JMM who already had to move up two weight classes at the age of 38 to fight him.

Now he's been exposed for injecting Xylocaine into his brittle hands before fights. That's a PED as far as I'm concerned. Not only is it a banned substance in 49 states, it also keeps him from feeling pain during a fight. That increases his performance does it not? CHEAT. HYPOCRITE.

Mayweather doesn't deserve a fight with Manny imo.

+1000000000000

I was pretty pumped and haven't paid for boxing match in like a decade. I'm sure once the fight is back on I'll get on board but disappointed about the setback.
