I guess the 2/4 limit players could be attracted to 4/8 by the promo. I don't play limit, so I don't really have a feel for how much bigger 4/8 plays compared to 2/4 in terms of how players view it. I was thinking in terms of say moving from 2/5 nl to 5/10 just due to a comp. But the difference in the money involved is so much greater than the few dollars in comps that I couldnt picture anyone doing that. i was assuming the same would apply in limit but that may have been wrong thinking.

My biggest gripe is just that I dont think it is fair to the players who pay the jackpot drop to have those dollars used to reward a new group of players that the regs cant even really play against in the games that the drop came from I feel like they should offer reduced/no rake to get people to try a new game. IOW use casino money not player money for what is a pure marketing function.

Not necessarily. They have run a few times NLO before. A friend of mine played in it I want to say it was either the last December series or March. The last two series I believe were PLO, but NLO has been a tournament.

Looking at the sheet they have as a pdf over in Mtt-live, I'm pretty positive it is NLO since its a mix NLO/NLHE. I'm 99.9% certain that is what it is.

It's correct; I played the NLO/NLHE tourney last time. It switches each blind level. Good clean fun.

It makes for a different dynamic, and some different strategy. For example, limp/reraising with AAxx is even more prevalent in the NLO rounds than in PLO cash games, since players have a better chance of either getting called heads up, or taking down the limps and blinds when they can actually limp/shove instead of just limp/re-pot. But players are aware of this move, so you end up seeing a lot of limped 5- to 7-way pots because everyone is afraid that the EP limpers are planning to shove if someone else raises.

Also, shorter stacks will tend to play very tight-- even in spots where they should normally be taking chances-- in the NLHE rounds, knowing that if they can last until the NLO round they can start shoving with any non-terrible hands and welcome the chance to double up with much better equity than if they had gotten called with a comparably weak hand in hold em. (Of course, this means that stealing is even easier than usual for non-short stacks in the last half of the NLHE rounds, since most shorter stacks will only take a stand with very strong hands when they're waiting to take their chances during NLO.)

No Limit Omaha is correct for this event.

Is there something going on with the dealers? Are they getting screwed (more than usual) by THR? Lately (last few weeks and admittedly only 2 trips), it seems even many of the competent dealers are getting slower and less interested in the game.

Once played in an outdoor casino in Antartica. Hard Rock is colder.

When the room is full, it's perfectly comfortable. As soon as it gets 2/3 full or less, it freezes. Surely they don't have a single giant AC unit and it can't be impossible or even expensive to modulate the number of units running so why not do that? It seems the AC like in my house is either on or off.

Every ten thousand hands someone in the room will win a prize from a box of Cracker Jacks.

Scott,

If you are not running a promo in September that is your business decision, however using the excuse that you are focused on a Regional WPT that you have run many times before as a reason for not running a promo is lame at best.It makes it sound like you cannot chew gum and walk at the same time without Henry. I know this is not the case.Better to just say that we will not be running a promo this month and leave it at that.On the topic of the WPT,could you run a Main Event Satty the day before it starts.I believe this would get a good turnout. Also,i would like to see day 2 go to 60 minutes for all levels not just the final table.

Thanks

Scott- does that mean the promos that will start Sept 1 will be focused on the WPT regional (like high hands and ME give aways) or are you saying you aren't running a promo in September because you all suddenly can't manage to think up a promo and run a tourney in the same month?

If the first option, you really should get the word out now, as it's just a week away and a holiday weekend at that. If that latter, then that's pathetic. Really pathetic.

It translates to we don't need to run a promo the WPT will get the players in in place of the promo. The promos don't have to exist or be winnable, as long as it gets the job done getting the fish in the room. For example the royal flush 5k wednesday promo was lol bad in direct expectation, but it got a ton of bad players to come in and think they would hit the royal.

They do this every time. They just don't advertise them well.

Rather than make you guess, if they've followed what they've done previously, there will be two on the Thursday immediately prior to the series, one at 11 or 12 and the other at 4.

I know they do the 2 on the Thursday before Event #1,however they need to do 1 or 2 the day before the main event as well. In most tournament events these Sattys the day before get the biggest turnouts and help build a bigger main event prize pool.I would really like to see these main events grow in size, but someone has to make the decisions to help it grow. It was a good decision to move day 1A to Friday, hence 1B to Saturday. It was difficult to tell the impact on the June WPT because last year was a $2200 buy in vs $1500 this year, but i think you will see a better turnout September vs September.

I think the satty right before the main event would be a great thing. Lots of times, the WPT kicks off, people see it going on, and then get excited about it. Then they go "is there a satty for the ME" and the answer is "yeah, it was two weeks ago, you missed it." Having it before the tourney even begins just doesn't really make sense.

When you have Satty's the day before the main it encourages players from out of the area to travel to the area for a few days with the approach that they will play the Satty on Thursday and if they do not get a seat, play cash over the weekend.Frequently players who play the am, will play the pm Satty even if that was not there original intention if they do not get a seat in the morning. It juices the Main Event and adds cash players for the weekend. Its a win-win for tournament players, cash players and the poker room.

Unfortunately, Tampa is sooooo far behind in running a proper tourney. At least Mr. Mason is on the ball in S. Fla!
