Please god let this be true, I live 10 minutes from the HR and hardly play there and 10 handed is a big reason. The HR has a lot of problems that will never get fixed like the buyin at 1/2 but 9 handed would be a great start.

Why? Is it just a matter of comfort or is there some tactical advantage?

For 4/8 or higher LHE this month, do you get $3/hr WPT + $3/hr bonus + $1/hr regular comp? Or is it $3 WPT + $3 bonus?

I personally am fine playing 9 or 10 handed, but these our my observations as a regular 2/5 NL player. There are a group of players who currently will not play a hand 7 handed, even more 6 handed.Tables frequently play a player or even 2 short, not including those taking a break(smoke, bathroom, food, phone call etc.).Start 9 handed and you will have more dealers sitting, wating to deal a hand. One change i would like to see is a mandatory post or waiting for the big blind. There are way too many transfers or players simply getting up are moving to other tables on their own. There are even a couple of players who come in behind the button and leave before posting a blind. Some players as soon as they transfer get up and are looking to transfer again, requiring a post would reduce this and benefits the other players at the table and the casino.

Yes, 9handed and mandatory posting. Comfort and structure so those players quit bouncing from game to game and slowing us all down.

On a side note, I did have a dealer strictly enforce the third man walking rule the other night. That alone kept the game running an extra hour

Comfort is part of the problem I have with 10 handed, the other is its just to slow for me but even live I like 6-8 handed. I'm sure someone will come in here and explain why you can make more money 10 handed, but for me its boring. Mandatory posting and third man walking rule would be nice.

For me it's both having more physical space and, in my opinion, it makes for a better game. No, not by a huge margin; obviously it's only a one player difference. But still, it'll be a little bit quicker each orbit getting into good position, and nut peddlers will on average have to pay an extra blind or two waiting for those kings and aces.

I've also heard they may be instituting a posting rule. I can think of a certain player that the rule should be named after. If you play 2/5 or PLO, you no doubt agree.

Haha, this is great. Even though we can't out names here I think we should name the posting rule for sure.

Some of us aint grinding all night, I like my hourly rate to a minutely rate and move on to other things. I wont sit at a table too long and let any shark get a read on me unless they want to follow me

PLUS ALL I READ ON THIS SITE IS TABLE SELECTION IS KEY, what is it not key for live games

Table selection IS key. That means find a good table, sit down, and stay there until either you're done or it's not good anymore.

(That's my response in case the last post was serious .)

Went to THR last night. Come on Scott, if you are going to promote the higher limit games, promote them.

I didn't see any big signage saying they are spreading higher limit games, the brush didn't mention it and worst of all, when I looked at the board, there were no games running but both 4-8 and 5-10 had like a 6-7 person waiting list. If you are truly trying to promote limit holdem, why not start the table with 7 and advertise for more on the PA.

Just a small sign on the counter.I did not notice any PA annoucements last night either, though they have on other nights.I really thought the 4/8 would run pretty much throughout the month with the promo, with maybe a 10/20 getting off the ground on Friday or Saturday night. No such luck on the 10/20 this weekend. The brush at the counter must mention it to every player who walks up and it has to be annouced over the PA at regular periods by every brush.

Scott,

i would suggest getting a sign made for your H-frame.If you are really serious about growing limit poker, you are going to need to run that promo for a few months. Its not going to cost much given that we are talking about one or two tables and at least you would have given it a real chance to take hold.example: signage thru october 31st.This should not interfere with other promos given the relative small cost.Someone on your team has to take ownership and drive this if you want it to work.

I would agree with Red and Donka. I am aware of two large limit games that run at private residences. The players are in Florida, it is just going to take some creative marketing to get them to get them to walk through the door.

I don't think the high limit promo has much chance of working. I look at it this way: first, a sign in the casino won't be seen by a 4/8 or 10/20 player who isn't coming to the HR already to play a game. Unless they feel that there are a bunch of limit players playing NL instead, there is no one in the target group to see the signs.

But second, is a $3/hour comp going to mean anything to a 4/8 or 10/20 player? If you play a 6 hour session, you earn $18 bucks. Is $18 bucks a big enough amount to say make a $2/5nl player change to try 4/8 or 10/20 limit? No. Plus, it's actually only $12 because the 2/5nl player gets $1/hour anyway.

So who exactly is going to be swayed by this big promo? Please don't have the brushes start announcing there is a 4/8 limit game possible. the last thing we need is MORE useless announcements blaring over the PA system. It's bad enough as it is. "We have two more lucky seats for the $50 single table tournament" every two minutes is annoying as hell as it is. Especially when they are full of **** and really need 4 players, but try and trick people to sign up.

Please don't saturate the atmosphere of the HR with a bunch of noise for games that frankly almost no one wants to play anyway. If they did, they would already be there. Instead focus promos on increasing the number of people coming to play the bread and butter games. Why spend all this effort to target a minuscule group of players?

Part of the target group are the current 2/4 limit players,so its important they are aware.Yes,$3 per hour does make a difference and the announcements have been going on every day since the first, except Sunday night. I guess you do not play there much.

Yeah, I'm only there between 30-50 hours a week, so I guess I don't have much of a feel for the place. As to your blanket statement about the $3 making a difference, when I was there on Saturday, they had several 2/4 limit games going, and just two names on a 4/8 interest list. So the $3 didn't mean enough for all those 2/4 players to sign up for 4/8. They ignored it. And i didnt hear any announcements about it either, but I have learned to try and block those out as much as possible. But sometimes the volume is so loud I can't. So they may have made announcements, which just means they were ignored as well. I'm quite sure I didnt hear a single 2/5nl player talking about moving over to 4/8 limit so they could earn an extra small blind an hour in comps.

So while you say the $3 makes a difference, and I guess it does to you, I didn't see any evidence it meant anything to anyone else, since almost no one was signing up for the games.

I really don't see 2/5NL players playing 4/8 limit.I might play it one day for a change of pace. The point i was trying to make is for a 2/4 limit player, the promo can make a difference. The game ran Thursday,Friday and Saturday during parts of the day.Its a promo that doesn't cost much and they are trying something different.

On the topic of promos, i hear that high hands are being considered. I have mixed views on high hands.Dealers like them, because they expect to receive a tip from players that they would not get from another monthly promo. From a business view i look at Daytona's use of them over the last 2 years and have noticed that they have continually incresed the payout with less traffic. When they started the high hands they were doing $500 high hands hourly on Saturday and were packed, they eventually got up to $1000 1/2 hour high hands with less traffic than when they started the $500 hourly high hands. From a player perspective i am hoping for a gas card/gift card promo as it guarantees a payout.

How is the 1/2 PLO at the Hard Rock? I've been a regular hold'em player for years, but I want to take my first shot at live PLO when I get to Tampa in a few days. On what days does the 1/2 PLO usually run? Where else in Tampa has 1/2 PLO?

Its been running as a 1/2 with a $5 straddle. Its a player, not dealer enforced straddle. Not sure if it runs every day, however 2/5 PLO has been running every day with 1 to 2 tables with 3 last Saturday.$200 to $1000 buy in.
