There was a long wait at the THR a few days ago, so I played in a single table $50 + $5 tournament that was just starting up with 6 players. I made it into heads up, so we we chopped and each of us got $125. My question is about the dealer. Is it customary to tip dealers in tournaments? Do they get the $5 for the extra buy-in?

They get the $5 extra chip buy in. Its up to you if you want to give more.

not sure if it's different everywhere, but in AC, 3-5% is customary. most tend to ignore the dealer add-on since people are always shorting the dealers in tips anyway. it's kind of to make up for it. plus, in low buy-in tourneys they make far less than they do dealing cash games. just for a perspective from another player. take it or leave it. i'd tip less if the dealer stunk. i doubt i'd tip more.

Since we started with 6 players, and final two chopped shortly after getting to heads-up, the tourny only lasted about 45 minutes. Dealer made $30, so that sounds reasonable.

i would agree with that. i'd have done the same. odd there was a dealer add-on for a single table. huge disadvantage if you don't take it. but i guess it leaves some "option" in the hands of the players.

just for more examples of casinos trying to protect their dealers from getting screwed, the borgata (THE poker room to play at in AC) doesn't have dealer add-on's but they take 3% out of the prize pool for the dealers.

playing that 6 max $50 tourney is not too smart unless your just playing 1 for fun or something. you would have to be phil ivey to beat the rake/dealer add on in the long run. Do the math on 10 tourneys, costs $550 so if you got 3 1st and 3 2nd every 10. Which would be incredible. then you would make $200, $20 per tourney, assuming you didnt tip anything extra.
so if you only got 2 1st and 2 2nd then you would lose money.

It was just for fun until I could get a 2/5 NL seat. I don't play poker for a living--I have a real job that pays over 6-figures for that. But 3 of the 6 players at our table were terrible, so not sure how hard it would be in the long run. I am sure the higher buy-in tournaments attract much better players.

I figure this is a good thread to ask in...Anyone know anything about this area of Tampa (in terms of whether it is safe or not and whatnot). That is the address of one of the apartment complexes I am looking at living in for the next ~year.

Camden Preserve
6501 South Westshore Boulevard
Tampa, FL 33616
Area(s): Sun Bay South

That area is reasonably safe, but if I were you I would go in the opposite direction toward Brandon if you are going to spend most of your time playing poker at THR. You will get a lot more for your money in Brandon and be reasonably close to THR (but still not walking distance). If you live on Westshore, you can get caught in really bad rush hour traffic going to/from the THR. Camden has a couple of apartment complexes in Brandon, as do other apartment companies.

The wait for 2/5 and 1/3 was quite long, and I came out $70 ahead in the tournament that lasted about 45 minutes. I can assure you that I am not ******ed.

Must be nice for Cliff to have recently signed a contract with the Phillies guaranteed for $120 million over the next five years, with a sixth-year option. Not sure how good a poker player he is, but I would not try to bluff someone with that kind of money.

5/10/20 NL for Cliff Lee would be the equivalent of .02/.04/.08 NL for someone making $100K per year (at a regular job). Not even going to think about what it would be for a student.

Hard rock needs more mtts around 50$ buyins with 30 min levels. It's hard to find mtts with under a 100$ buyin with decent level structure. Anyone know of any decent ones in Tampa area

The only ones i knew of, havnt checked recently, was the 3 tourneys a week at Tampa bay downs that are $70+$10+$10 dealer add for 10k more chips, for a total of 20k chips and 20 min. blinds.
I think derby had a $85 or so tourney on Mondays with 10k chips and 25 min. blinds.

Yeah, being close to the THR isn't really a huge deal to me as I don't play much live. I will definitely check out Brandon. Thanks.

It would be more like $0.005/$0.01/$0.02

Mike, Derby Lane and Tampa Bay Downs have by far the best structures in the area. Most are under $100 too...

Orlando-Tampa = a little over an hour. And the only time to avoid is 4pm-7pm M-F

$120 million over 5 years is $24 million per year, which 240 times larger than $100K per year. $5 small blind divided by 240 is $0.020833, which I rounded to .02.

There is no exit on to Orient Rd from that direction, so take Hillsborough Ave exit and enter on the east side of the property.

i used to live right next to the UCF main campus, and it was exactly 100 miles to hard rock.

99% of the drive was highway

Only worry was an accident, especially in Lakeland or nearing I-75. Man, you can get caught up in some real mud if you there's a bad one in front of you.
