RIP Chacho who passed away yesterday after being diagnosed with stomach cancer a few months ago. He was a gentleman to deal with and always one of the best shift managers there. Borgata really taking a few hits lately.

Heard about B through the grapevine this week. Was always a true gentleman every time I dealt with him.

Cancer sucks

The Borgata has an excellent fitness center. There are some free weights (mostly dumbbells with a few barbells), a whole lot of machines that cover all the muscle groups, and a row of treadmills, stationary bikes, and I think a couple of step machines. The room is spacious, clean, and well-maintained. It is also supplied with bottled water, towels, and bathrooms.

The downside is the $12/day charge. It does allow all-day access. So I have designed my workout plan on multi-day stays to cut the price in half. I do upper body in the morning and lower body in the early evening, instead of splitting them over 2 days, which is my normal routine at home. Then I take the next day off except for a jog along the bay. So my effective cost is $6/workout.

6/workout still absurdly high. Invest in some resistance bands and do in room workouts.

RIP
Lots of regulars think that he looked a little bit like ARod. He was one of the shift managers and my experience with him was that he always handled things professionally and carried himself well. I heard he was 36 and left behind a family.

Terrible news.

Tony Luke's is the second worst cheesesteak I've ever eaten. Fatburger FTW in the food court. Salad place is pretty good too, if you're into that kind of thing.

Whoa, really?? I'll have to defer to your judgment on cheesesteaks in general, being from up north and all. But there is no way I would ever choose a Fatburger over a Tony Luke's. They're about the same price, but the burger is 50% or more lettuce by weight. The one time I tried it, I think I was actually hungrier after eating it than I was before.

While the Tony Luke's in Borgata is definitely not as good as the one in Philly, it's still a good cheesesteak. The higher casino price doesn't help, but to say it's the 2nd worst cheesesteak is either an exaggeration, or you only eat great cheesesteaks.

Debating about cheeseteaks in the Philly area is like debating barbecue in south. Everybody has their favorites and their own biases. For me, Tony Luke's (I've only eaten at the one at the Borg) was a bit of a letdown after so many people said it was good. Been a long time since I spent time in Philly, but Jim's on south street, Costa Deli in Ambler, and one of the places in Reading Terminal are some of my favorites cheesesteaks.

Fatburger is horrible. Horrible. The people who work there are rude and seem to have been directly recruited from the street. And I'm not talking Park Avenue. They won't cook your burger to order. Well done only, in fact burned and dried out. Service is very slow. An overall miserable experience. However, the hot dogs are OK. Even they can't seem to eff that up.

Tony Luke's? Much better. Nice people serving you. Fast. Good quality. Tastes great.

Lettuce Head good. Chinese places good. Italian place very good. (Good for a food court, obviously).

I don't think anyone was claiming that TL's was the best cheesesteak ever, just that it was orders of magnitude better than Fatburger, which completely sucks.

While we're on the topic of food, though, everyone is aware that Noodles Of The World has a few really good things that for whatever reason aren't on their menu? For example, "clams with black bean sauce" (I think that's what it's called?) is awesome.

Try the burger from Wolfgang's, I took the advice from here, and got to say, one of the best burgers ever! It's like $15 or something, but worth it!

while I 10000000% agree the service is beyond awful. Maybe the worst period and I mean that. I believe their policy is well done only, so it's not personal. The $15 price tag for a junk burger that takes 20 minutes, is reprehensible.

Tony lukes imo, is not a good cheesesteak, price aside, it's flavorless and too greasy. If you're going to Luke's get the roast pork and broccoli rabe.

Better yet, O P E N up a gosh darn mexican made to order ala qdoba or chipotle and put the rest of that junk downstairs to bed. (that's for akhobbes!)

_____________

sad to hear arod passed, I didn't even know his real name after all these years. He was very knowledgeable about the rules, and ime never made a bad or unfair ruling, never saw him smile though : / best wishes to his family, hope the borgata puts something nice together for him and bruce as well.

I don't accept their policy of "well done only". That is the equivalent of Ben & Jerry's deciding to sell their stuff "melted only".

Their burgers resemble disks of reclaimed asphalt. Just close if you are not going to cook a hamburger the way the customer wants it. CLOSE AND GET OUT!
