It's probably best to not do it at all then to play the game of "okay, first time, just a warning (that's okay), second time... (then what?)"

1. lets try to bring the 4/8 hose game back to life

3. why cant we have both games the 4/8 hose and 10/20 2way
Here's my take on the 4/8 HOSE & 10/20 2 way situation.

The HOSE game was going strong for the first three-four weeks (I played two of these times) with the established day/time (Sat. @ 2PM). For whatever reason, it lost steam after about a month. I think I went to Borgata on the sixth week it was spread, and the game got called @ 2. Three people showed up to the table, and it never went that night. From reading Stan's live game reports on this thread, I think it's only gone once since the end of June.
As much I don't want to admit it, there's not enough of a player base for a low limit HOSE game. There would probably be enough players for a 10/20 game, which leads me to...

The 2 way game is a mainstay at Borgata, due to the regulars that play in the game EVERY day. From what I can see (I don't have a lot of hours in that game, but enough to kinda get a read on it), most of the people don't really enjoy the stud 8 half. That's when you'll see a lot of walking around, etc.
If there's only one table going lately, they've been dropping the stud 8 half and going with the Omaha only.

I'm not buying that the games cannibalize each other. Two very distinct limits & types of players, IMO. Over two HOSE sessions I played with one regular 2 way player, and one semi-regular 2 way player.

I have a few suggestions, etc.

1. If the HOSE game is to survive, it might have to be moved towards the
front of the room near the 2/4 & 3/6 games. If more peole saw the different
games, they might be more inclined to give it a shot. Especially if they're
waiting for a seat.

2. I like the 4/8 white-chip structure, but it's so foreign to
AC poker (other than Trop), I think it scares off the low limit crowd.
I have a suspicion that if the HOSE game was 3/6 and up front, it would go
every weekend. You'd probably lose most of the 2+2'ers though.

3. If the HOSE game dies, why not 'split up' the 2 way game and spread 10/20
O8, and a 10/20 stud 8 game.

4. Stan's orignal plan was to spread a 4/8 stud 8 game. If the 10/20 2 way
game stays status quo (which it most likely will), then why not
try a 6/12 stud 8 game ? If it doesn't go, then we'll know there really isn't
that much interest in stud games at Borgata below 30/60.

Just my .02...

I played in the Stud 8 game once and the HOSE game once. I enjoyed the games, but in the end I also enjoy NL and I can make a lot more playing 2/5 or even 1/2.

I'm not sure if there really is a core group of guys that would be there every Saturday to start the game. I feel like its more like theres a larger group of people that will play occassionally. This probably makes it harder to start and get going.

I personally doubt changing it to 3/6 or 6/12 will make a huge difference. I also think the HOSE game has a much better chance of succeeding long term then the straight 8 or better game.

Great historic tv moment:

Raquel Welch appears on Tonight Show and brings her cat on with her. She asks Johnny Carson, "Would you like to pet my cat?". He responds without missing a beat, "No, but I'd love to pet your pussy".

Live game report, please...

re: 4/8 HOSE

It seems the way these non NL games run is that it needs a base of regulars that play every weekend, or every day. I don't think putting the game near the front or changing limits will help any, as those people will just pass through. But without the regulars, it won't ever survive.

For me, i stopped playing when I lost too much. The limits were too low, and I'd play really dumb, thinking its so little compared to the 10/20 or 15/30/45 2 way games I play in.

The chips have a metal peice inside, sometimes they get a bit magnetic and stick to each other.

I don't think it's suction.. they are far from forming a tight seal.

If they were magnetic they wouldn't all stick. Some would repel.

I have a fair amount of hours in at the 10/20 2 way game. I played in the 4/8 HOSE game twice.

Here is the deal with the 2 way game. It is mostly the same players as has been mentioned. In order for them to drop the stud part of it the entire table has to agree to it. many of the times the stud portion gets dropped when they get short handed. It just isn't much fun to play 5/6 handed stud/8 and also the action at O/8 is so much more and better than at the stud/8 due to the fact that it is so much easier for people to misplay and get out of line in O/8.

Example. Even a terrible player knows that in stud/8 K94 is an awful hand. However in O/8 people play lots of marginal and terrible hands. Tons of times i see people show down hands such as AQ79 unsuited from under the gun not realizing how terrible of a hand it is.

Every time that you lose a hand, some of your chips repel across the table.

If you would stack all of your chips the right way, your stack would draw other players' chips to your stack, and you'd win more hands.

lol its the gap between the metal piece in the middle and the outer part of the chip that creates a suction effect, it's just air if you pick them up slower they wont stick most of the time.

Final answer!

The chips are not magnetic. Because of the material they are made and the tiny gap in the center where the dollar amount is, they suction together. The Borgata actually bought a machine to run the chips thru and rough up the sides so that the suction would not be as bad. True story

FWIW I like the chips. They don't make a lot of annoying chip noise like the ones at Taj, Caesars, Trop, etc.
