How many players does Borgatas 11:00AM Sunday tournament usually get and how long does it run? I know wed is the big one but I wont be able to make it down on a weekday in awhile. I'm looking for what weekend daily tourney $50-$230 buy-in gets the biggest showing.

The funniest thing that happened in the 2/5 PLO game on saturday night (which was a pretty fun game) was that this dude sits down who was pretty clueless. so he calls a raise preflop and calls all-in on the flop. he flips over his hand and everyone is curious what he has. I look and he has a middle pair between the board cards and someone says "What the hell does he have??" and someone responds "He has blockers!"

calling all-in with blockers...it was pretty funny

OT but Frangos might be the only recognizable pro from AC...

How soft are the 1 table $120 and the $280 SNGs?

The $120 are a disaster. There are literally people who have never played poker using these to 'give it a try'.

The problem is even as weak as they are there isn't very much play in them because of the stack sizes/blinds. You have to catch cards pretty early or your dead in the water.

I agree the SNG's poor blind/stack structure makes them hard to win. You are short stacked almost right after the first round. But can it be played and won using a more aggressive strategy? I used to play the SNG (100+20) and found myself frequently short stacked and fighting to get all in on a first vig. Now, I think I wasn't playing my hi-pair and hi card hands aggressively enough. I am thinking about playing in a SNG again but I am uncertain whether I am thinking correctly about the approach to take with the SNG blind/stack structure.

I thought for some reason at one point the borgata changed the max to like 1k or 750 max for the 2-5 game and then decided to go back to 500 or something. There is also a chance that this is completely a figment of my imagination.

I play mostly Limit games and PLO with only an occasional 1/2 NL session so the following doesn't really affect me but.....

What I don't understand is the following:

1/2 NL Max Buy = 300 = 150BB
2/5 NL Max Buy = 500 = 100BB
5/10 NL Max Buy= 2000 = 200BB (I am pretty sure it used to be 1500 but was change to 2k)

Why would the change from 1/2 ---> 2/5 make you play a game shallower and then your next move to 5/10 doubles the depth of the game?

I know 1/2 is different as far as average raise size compared to the blind size but still seems odd to me where they came up with the Max buyin for 2/5(not just the Borg). I think showboat and some others also run a 5/5 game with a 1k buy in, i think they run 2/5 and 5/5 (which doesn't go all the time and SB size doesn't really matter, i think its just easier to distinguish the games that way.)

Thank you for the reply, which one do you feel has the best structure? Do they both use the same paytables?

1-2 with 300 BI makes total sense for the people who aren't the bad tourists. Like you mentioned the raise sizes are so odd in 1-2 that it helps to have the extra chips to play with.

Borgata, without a question, has a better structure. Showboat starts at 50-100 on the blinds. Borgata has a 25-50 level.

Showboat does NOT have antes (which I hate, personally). Showboats blind levels jump pretty quickly.

Borgata has a 100-200 level with no antes and then a 100-200 WITH a 25 ante. It may not seem like much, but it makes for some extra play.

Sounds like I'll give Borgata a shot for the tourney. I'm accustomed to that blind structure via online poker. Thanks for the info!

Nick Frangos and Nicky D are different people. Which one died? I'm 98% sure it's Nicky D, but I want to make sure.

One night I was blackout drunk and told a drooler he had a low vs. Nicky D in a 30k omaha h/l pot. Next time I saw Nicky, it wasn't a pleasant conversation.

Missing stan's updates (good too take a break though)

Wondering if the crappy weather this weekend will have better tables or worse? Less tourists because of the rain?
