I got a 1099 on $600 last year.

I was folding as were 3-4 other players at the ten handed table. I end up taking a capped flop OOP with A3 suited. Flop comes 23j off-suit. i bet, it gets capped. I call a capped turn of a 9 still no flush draws. River comes a 5. I check, stone cold rock bets, i decide to raise as a bluff. He calls. I smile and flip my A3 (knew i was caught). He insta mucks. A couple regs at the table ask him if he can beat a pair of 3's. He says "of course i had 2 pair, villian1 had a straight". Some players gave me a tough time. Is it angle shooting to simply flip my cards and smile?
That is of course absurd unless you're leaving something out. There should be more tablers instead of the mouth-breathers who angle every way possible to not show their hand. Also I picked the wrong weekend to sit in on this game.

I'm at work back in Cherry Hill, coming straight from checking out the Borgata hotel tower. But man, even though I left the table with $5 left before 11:30 PM last night, I had a blast!

First off, I played $2-5 NLHE with $200 in. To sum up, I've been card dead for mostly 90 minutes, where my chip stack was receding due to the blinds and time rake.

With $110 left, I came upon J-6 offsuit and limped-in along with 5 other players.

The flop was: J-J-7.

At middle-position, I was third to act and I bet $10. Then the dealer button raised it to $30. While I figured that the person probably has a Jack, I was concerned if I got outkicked...but I suckered in with an all-in bet. With an insta-call, she flopped a boat.

Turn card was a 10.

River card was a 2. (Dang...I missed a chop!)

= = =

I left the table and waited for a $1-2 PLO table. There were five people already on the list. While waiting, I replied to Caldor King's question regarding PLO and room status through my smartphone. Later, Stan picked up on this and came to the rescue, from his house, to open a table!!!

Within three minutes or so, the tournament podium announced a new $1-2 PLO game at table 25. After a nearly ten minute wait for the other players, two players from 5-10 NLHE helped me launched the game playing three-way. Just from that, more and more bystanders started flocking to our table and watched how the game was played.

And within an hour, thanks to periodic marketing from the tournament podium staff and the encouragement of bystanders to come in, our table went to 7 players...

And within ninety minutes, the game was solid with all ten players!

At the table, I played from 6 to 11:30 p.m. with $300. First as I was up $175 from hitting a nut two-pair and a nut Ace-high flush. Then I was card dead and experienced high-swing losses from outkicked trip-Jacks and missed nut-flush draws. Finally, I left with $5 and ate a nice, juicy, medium-rare New York Strip at the Cafe Metropolitan for a late night dinner. (Thanks to comps, the final bill went from $33 to $16.)

I usually feel a bit down on a loss. But I'm still smiling and upbeat this morning because I made new friends, it didn't hurt my financial bottom line, and, most importantly, PLO got going for as long as it did. For that, I owe the Ruler of the East my huge thanks, gratitude and future repeat business. He's helped me a lot in the past and he STILL came through last night...

And he didn't get paid for that. Just stunning. :-)

I know...no strategy here...
but yea, that's why you don't play J6o.
Also, don't say nut 2-pair unless you want to be laughed at.

But other than that, I'm glad you had fun. I might have to play some PLO the next time I am at the Borg.

Ah, I gotcha. I won't next time. :-) For now, for simplicity sake, I flopped a higher two-pair than my opponent's while the board was rainbowed with no straight and no flush draws.

Can anyone give us a live table count / update from the borgata. I have the urge to go this afternoon. Is the bad beat still around $200,000 too?

I'm pretty sure that Stan gets a paycheck.

He's a nice guy. But I don't think that he puts in the time that he does merely to help people, without a paycheck.

Stan gets paid $2 per hour unless he forgets to swipe his card on the way out.

Wow. Was planning to PM Stan about getting poker rates for my annual pilgrimage in August and what do I find in my mailbox today? Free room offers Sun - Thu and only $59 for a second night Mon-Wed, $79 Sun/Thu. And a free unlimited parking pass to boot!

I haven't played since last August (busy year) and was thinking they were indeed cutting back on the offers, but thanks to whoever got these offers out!

See ya first week in August!

Matt

No, 1099 will be mailed to you at the end of the year. $600 or more.

Does the $600 or more just apply to this prize or does it apply to poker tournaments too?

So since I got a $20 comp offer in the mail today, does that mean that you like me better? Or was this a slots/table game thing?

I'm actually expressing curiosity on how Borgata figured out how much different people get. But I know that kind of detail is not really talked about.

On a completely different note, after 6 years of playing at the Borgata, I finally put my first dealer on the "never tip again" list after being on the receiving end of a nasty, unprofessional two minute tirade about how I was annoying her for repeatedly putting my chips across the betting line about the same distance as other people. But apparently not close enough for her. I was warned a couple times and got better, but something just caused her to blow up and eventually threaten to get the floorperson on me and get me removed from the game.

While not a great tipper, I always thought of myself as one of the most dealer-friendly players out there (having dealt in the occasionally myself,) so the incident bothered me for a while.

I'll probably try and talk with her sometime if she's at an empty table and see if we can't work things out. Or maybe I'll be really passive-aggressive towards her in the future. Haven't decided yet.

btw, I have a whole week at the Borgata (budgeting 100+ hours of poker) coming up starting from Wednesday (Beach Towel Giveaway Day!) so let's see if we can't some weekday PLO going.

And another unrelated story:
Sunday Cash Drawing. They call the now empty table 14, where my 4-handed PLO game just broke ~30 minutes prior thx to my being done w/ 4 hours of short-handed play. So they call table 19 (O8 10/20) and they call the seat exactly to my right. Been missing things by that much all weekend.

Nut no pair, nut boat, nut overpair, etc. Acceptable terms that don't seem that funny.

But usually top-two, top-and-bottom, or bottom two are standard terms on the flop.

btw, what's the status on the live update web page? Has it been fixed? Is not, is there anything close to an update on current status of fixing it? I have the page as a short cut on my phone, but stopped using it once the problems were discovered.

... or maybe I'll just check the page the next time I see a recent game report post by Stan for "synchronicity."

Tournaments are different. Winnings of $5,000 or more minus the buy-in will be taxed on the spot. The drawings, no matter what the amount will be paid in full, then you will get a 1099 at the end of the year.

The $20 in comps is from poker.
