I'm taking Caron "I carried a team of scrubs to the #5 seed and all I do is keep getting more studly each year" Butler to round out my starting 5.

More later. For now:

Dude is improving each year. Another 2+spg guy, we will have ferocious perimeter D funnelling opponents into our nasty frontline. Plus, he's a great passer in the true point forward role, which gives a lot of options to our offense.

A back to back All Star, he's proven he can be a leader once Gilbert went down two years ago. Had a fluke hand injury last year as he slapped the backboard, his mild groin pull this year is the only serious time he's ever missed.

Not an 82 games guy, but barring fluke injury, "tough juice" is good for 75 a year. Has the discipline to not have shot a lot of 3's til he got decent at them this year. Another great FT shooter for my team. His all around game is just what the doctor ordered.

Fave Five:
PG Mookie Blaylock
SG Allan Houston
SF Caron Butler
PF Larry Nance
C Patrick Ewing

JoA, you are welcome.

1. Yeah I don't mean that their similar players, I just think he's automatically going to be thrust into the "great young point guards" equation. I think he'll be more of a combo guard than a "small shooting guard" FWIW.

2. Oden is a very serious injury risk at this point.

If Butler was this good at 24, he would've gone miles ago. Unfortunately he wasn't. But Clark just made sure his team is gonna be bomb for awhile.

I'm really mystified how Roy went that far ahead of Caron. Even though Roy is a 2-guard, they both do the "point-wingman" thing a lot.

Was him or a guy who is guaranteed to go in the next two picks. I really agonized, but Caron is simply too awesome and too well rounded for me to pass up. But I don't think I could've made a mistake. I was too concerned Assani would take him and JoA would take the other guy, leaving me with a second rate SF type. I can deal with scrubbing for sleeper bench guys. I wanted to have a starting five I was comfortable with.

Roy at 23 >>>>>>> Caron at 24.

Caron at 27 >> Roy at 23.

If I hadn't needed a pure shooter so badly, I may well have taken him instead of Houston in the 4th.

This is another example of steals being misleading for D, Caron is an average defender at best, and with Houston Clark's wing defenders will have some major issues imo. I knew Caron was slightly better than Deng, but there is no way I could go with a Butler/Martin backcourt, it would get torched on d.

That said, he does have 2 great defensive bigmen to help make up for it.

I like the Caron pick, there's a good chance this past season is most reflective of his 3pt% (2x the attempts of any other season) and there are signs he could improve (90% FT%, 5 straight years of improving TS%). Gives flexibility with the whole point forward thing. Thumbs up.

Your team will be so explosive that they can't get past airport security.

Also, neither will BigChips' team, but that's for an entirely different reason.

I thought about him in the 4th also, but needed a center and wasn't sure about him with Mullin.

Can't disagree strongly enough with this. Butler is a very good defender.
