Higher?

I'd expect Oden to go the first of the 3 with Rose closely behind and Beasley after that. Maybe 2/3rd for Rose/Oden and 4th for Beasley, maybe I'm overestimating them and they should be lower?
I think this shows how ridiculous of a steal Durant was then. Durant was higher regarded than both Beasley and Rose. For some reason we seem to penalize an 18 year old for not being a superstar right away. Hell look at his second half splits...the kid is going to be a legit scorer. He should've been a 3rd round pick imo for certain.

Problem is you can't just say one guy will stop shooting so much. You're taking away shots from Drazen and lebron too.

Re: Modern Era NBA Build a Franchise Draft Discussion

Is Durant all that more highly regarded than Beasley/Rose? He had a very similar season to Beasley, same conference, and Beasley statistically was better in almost every category. Worse outside shooter, but better overall eFG%, better at getting to the line, better at rebounding, higher usage rate, both took their teams to the second round of the tournament. Slightly different positions, Durant is a 3/2, while Beasley is a 4/3, but I don't see why Durant should be more highly rated than Beasley other than he came first and was new and fresh. Rose is a completely different player than those two, but his stock is pretty high after he stepped up his game in the tournament to show that it's not just against Conference USA opponents. I know you love Durant, but I don't see how he separated himself from either of the top two this year.

Yeah I know. It was hardly cherry picked though. I used the same stats all across the board. I talked about PPG, TS%, usage, turnovers, assists, rebounding, and defense. If there are other aspects of the game, then please alert me.

Also, you still haven't given any reasons as to why Durant is "average" other than his PER. For a recap I want to know if you think he's actually average or if you just think his PER is average. I also want to know how you think he'd do on a better team. Personally, I think these are very obvious answers (above average, and this would've shown better on a better team).

You have yet to address a single thing I have said in this thread that I can recall with anything but arbitrary opinion.

GREAT POSTING BOBBO!!!!

Isn't this whole draft based on arbitrary opinion? Sure there are stats, but everyone has their own arbitrary interpretation of what those stats mean.

Do you realize that his Denver Nuggets team averaged 15 shots a game more than the current Suns.
THe whole roster was taking 15 shots a game!
Honestly, with a normal pace, he'll probably be averaging less hots, and there's no reason to think he 'll cut down a litlle for the team needs especailly since he won't play more than 30 minutes a game

I'm not a huge Beasley fan. The difference for me is in the position. Beasley is too small to be a really good 4 and not quick enough to be a 3. Prototype of the tweener. How many tweener's have been really successful in the NBA? On the other hand you have Durant who is reallllllllllllly long and athletic. Those are two things that go a looooong way in being succesful as a 2/3 in the NBA.

Also, for Rose, I LOVE Rose. I think he's going to be a stud. He'll enter the Paul/Deron conversation soon enough.

As for Oden, I'm just really worried because of the injuries.

For me I think:

Durant should've been early 3rd
Rose would be late 3rd
Oden would be late 3rd
Beasley would be late 4th

Re: Modern Era NBA Build a Franchise Draft Discussion

all, sorry the delay. Clark is a slow emailer. We've reached a deal.

We're swapping picks this round and in the 6th round.

So it's:
Colin trades picks 165 (round 5, pick 5) and 236 (round 6, pick 36) to
ClarkNastizzle for picks 169 (round 5, pick 9) and 225 (round 6, pick 25)

ClarkNasty is on the board.

Agreed.

And I'm pulling an Epippen and considering for a few minutes. I have two guys in mind, both of which I think could be mega awesome for me. Please to be patient for a few mins.

GAYBALLS

Seriously though, I thought we learned not to trade with Clark!

You got a fair deal though, especially since you didn't seem crazy about any of the available players at this point.

That's not true. I just said I'd draft Durant over Oden, so you can't say "always."

Also, continue ignoring the Durant conversation because you have no legitimate reason as to why you think he won't be good other than PER.

I got the best of that deal and Clark knows it. "Sorry Clark I don't remember". I traded with the best and I won.

I find it weird you'd think Durant should go early 3rd. Would you take him ahead of:

Mark Aguirre
Detlef
Finley (ok, yes)
Joe Johnson
Kevin Martin
Andre Iguodala
Jeff Hornacek
Drazen

?

Whether you agree with it or not, Durant was getting crazy hype coming into the league....go read a few of Bill Simmons' pieces about him or read the scouting reports. I'm not saying it should've been that way, but he was definitely hyped beyond belief.

1. I'm not seeing the Paul/Williams comparisons. He seems much more like a scoring PG than a pass first one. I'd compare him more to Wade/Monta Ellis.

2. No way Oden doesn't go above them unless we're heavily considering the injury, although thats a fair concern.

It depends on your team needs. Does your team have the ability to build for the future, or do you need someone right away? That's basically the only question. All of those players are better right away (LDO), but do I think Durant will be better than all of those guys? Yup.

There's also a sick advantage to drafting a 19 y/o in that he'll be in his prime when all your guys are really old.

Barring injuries, I think his floor is around Johnson or Igoudala level.
