More types of jackpots. Make a progressive, caps at 50k for spade royal too. Maybe for each type of royal, or maybe just for any royal. Dunno how much money would get used out of the pool for that.

I just don't want to see anything where one person gets it per hour. Let anyone who hits X hand get paid. Don't screw one guy over because he got his quad aces 5 minutes too early. Paying all straight flushes $X00 and royals $1000 >>>>> hourly high hands.

High hand promos of any nature benefit good players. Such promos draw in more recreational players to play and encourage such players to play less than optimum poker.

Good players know that playing to win a high hand jp is -EV.

Good players know that others playing to win a high hand jp is +EV for the good player.

Yeah, that's not true. Good players know that playing to win a high hand is worth X amount. When you have $5000 royals and you turn a royal draw, you can safely add $108 to a lot of your calculations concerning any pot where the river is seen, and pushing someone out of the pot may well be a poor decision because of it.

Awarding regular players bonuses based upon time they spend at the tables does nothing to draw rec players in whose entire plan is to try and hit a high hand. You want to give them their 500 every month - most likely it's going in one pocket and out the other.

Of course the high hands change the way players play in certain spots but everything in life is a trade-off and you can adjust your play accordingly.

What I don't like is the cross-referencing of promos between different games. I think each game should have it's own fund based upon the percentage of tables for that game. For instance, if they regularly run 60% of the tables at 1/2 no-limit than the 1/2 no-limit game should get 60% of the promo rake rewards. Permitting limit games that run one table to share in the rake of the other no-limit tables is totally unfair. Not only that but do no-limit players care if there is an additional 1/2 limit game running in the room because of a high hand promo? I think not.

A royal jackpot is not a high hand promo as I am expounding on (and as you made the same distinction in your post which I quoted). It's a jackpot prize for hitting a particular hand. High hand jackpots are either highest hand in a particular time frame (e.g., highest hand for the hour), or a set of hands (e.g., quads or better) at a particular time of day. It is generally -EV to chase those, but +EV for the good players when the rec players come in to chase them.

Bottom line, my point is that good players shouldn't be opposed to any promo which brings in more rec players, especially when the promo encourages such players to play less than optimum poker. This includes high hand promos, aces cracked, matching hands, etc. There is no sense in railing against one such type of promo in favor of another. Chase the promo chasers, not the promos themselves.

No improvements to the calendar, sadly, but at least I can plan around the fact that there's nothing. (other than WPT)

Scott,

I have been hearing some talk about reducing the max buy in on the 2/5 NL back to $600.Is there any truth to this? Please leave the 2/5 NL game as is. If i had the power, i would set your 2/5 game(buy in & straddle) as the standard for every poker room in the country.Good move on reducing the 5/10 NL max buy in.It should provide some help to the game.

Thanks

Open question to all:

How do you feel about a mandatory post for new players/transfers on there first hand(or waiting for the BB)?

new 5/10 max at $2500: agree
institute mandatory post: disagree

No posting when players move or come in. I'm not sure that excessive transfers to avoid blinds are really a problem. This could also cause some people to just wait till they get their big blind, which will have them play less hands.

Lowering the max buy in would be very bad for the game imo.

On another note would be nice to see the min buy in on 2-5 go up to 300 now that the 1-2 game plays bigger. Thoughts?

If you were offered a choice between a $150 gas card for 25 hours of play or at least one extra recreational player who is half as skilled at poker as you at your table the whole time, which would you choose?

$6 an hour for 25 hours vs. 1 slightly worsened player at the table for maybe 10 hours?

Put that way, it's easily the gas card.

I'll take a drunk rec player with deep pockets. Preferably a very attractive woman with sun dress and rose colored glasses please.

Nice way to twist around my words to bolster your opinion. Isn't there a word for that?

Politics?

I actually don't like the gas card. They make the tables uber nitty.

Exactly. And high hand promos have the opposite effect. Lots of loose and incorrect play.

Yeah, I just don't like hourly high hands. I don't mind when it's something that's flat rate like the royals.

I recommend that you decide to like them. If you are a good player, they add to your bottom line whether you win any or not.
