Max OPEN is still $8 AFAIK

If there is a $5 limp/bring then you can go to $20 I guess. I think the blinds have been counting as $5 total in that situation.

$5 blinds $5 limp put in your $5 call...then raise pot. $20 total after one limp/bring

I wonder if Borgata will be more conservative with large guarantees after Harrah's significantly missed their guarantees in a couple of tournaments last weekend.

Here's your answer from the Harrah's AC blog in B&M:

On Sunday, they had a $200 NLHE with a $40,000 gtd pot. Only 105 were entered with 5 minutes left in the late registration so I signed up to kill time while my buddy was on his way to 8th place in the 100K. Again, Harrah's had to kick $19,400 into the pot to make up the $40,000. Made for a very good $200 tourney. paid 18 places out of a total 108 entrants with winner taking down $10,000+

Harrahs is nice to stay at as well as to party but when it comes to poker, the B blows harrahs out the box, not even close, IMO, the B holds the best tournys in all of AC

lamchopz,

I don't think Harrahs tournaments are not as well advertised as the B, unless its an Official WSOP Circuit Ring Event, (Dec. 4th BTW); And the poker room is a little too dark! I went for a midnight last week with two friends, had one donk to the left of me that needed a saddle; I left there wondering why I wasted another $70! I wish the B would bring back a midnight, they got as good a turnout if not better than the Taj. I cashed at a few, it was good for me.

I agree with you 100%, I think a $100 midnight tourny at the B would generate a good turnout, say on Fridays n Saturdays, what do you think Stan?

This change up is totally awesome. I loved the midnight game. Stan & Tab are the dynamic duo! Why go anywhere else for a tournament?

I'm not Stan, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night...

Reason #1: Dealer logistics: they don't want to limit the availability of cash games on Fridays/Saturdays. In essence, having the tournament Sun-Tues brings in more cash games on Fridays & Saturdays, making Borgata more money

Reason #2: Locational considerations: on top of reason #1, they want to hold the tournament in the poker room so that they do not have to set-up additional tables in other parts of the casino and therefore have to hire more staff to cover the tables.

Reason #3: Hotel logistics: not only are their more rooms available on Sun-Tues to the poker players if they need one, but they are available at a cheaper rate. Right now, they are offering $89/night Sun-Thurs and god-only-knows how much Fri & Sat.

I'm sure Stan can elaborate, but I think I'm close...

Ugh, this new tournament schedule is horrible. Not a single weekly tournament over $200? I used to think the Friday noon $300+40 was the best tournament in AC, but now they have lowered to buy-in (again!), reduced the level time, and increased the number of starting chips...all changes for the worse. I would think Borgata would be the one place that wouldn't stoop to the lowest common denominator.

It's simple... the fish are getting smaller! Incase you have not noticed, unemployment is almost 10% people are running out of money. Not that they wouldn't love to play a bigger tournament!

plus first place is likely to be less than 5k so chopping early is likely and no IRS forms.

Smaller buyins=more recreational players
Having more recreational players in the room will make the cash games alot better.

I like the higher buyin tournaments aswell but I think he smaller buyin events will be better overall.

The Borgata also regularly has higher buy in tournaments, with large guarantees, and better structures. These should occur often enough to satisfy the more serious players. Then all the recreational players who have been frequenting the Borgata for the smaller buyin events will say " i am at the borgata lets give this $500 or $1000 deepstack a try! I cashed in last weeks 15k guarantee!"

These types of changes are good for a change of pace. Smaller buyins, midnight poker, guarantees, free buffets, etc. are good as long as they keep giving us options.
