I like the higher buyin tournaments aswell but I think he smaller buyin events will be better overall.

The Borgata also regularly has higher buy in tournaments, with large guarantees, and better structures. These should occur often enough to satisfy the more serious players. Then all the recreational players who have been frequenting the Borgata for the smaller buyin events will say " i am at the borgata lets give this $500 or $1000 deepstack a try! I cashed in last weeks 15k guarantee!"

These types of changes are good for a change of pace. Smaller buyins, midnight poker, guarantees, free buffets, etc. are good as long as they keep giving us options.

Agreed, but how about this; A monthly $100K on the first weekend of the month and a $200k two weeks later? And Stan/Tab I want a freeroll for me if you go with this! LOL!!!

You will see Razz spread in AC at the end of Nov.

From his wording, I'd guess that other casinos would be allowed to spread it, but I'm guessing other than the Borgata only the Taj would have the player base to support HORSE?

The problem is they aren't giving us options or changes of pace....they are just conforming to what every other casino in Atlantic City is doing. Just like Borgata used to be the option for players who didn't like BBJPs. Pretty soon it won't even be the option for middle-limit LHE players. Borgata is turning into a larger version of every other poker room....1/2 & 2/5 NL, and $100 tournaments, with occasional larger tournament series.

It used to be that Borgata WAS the option for higher buy-in tournament players, along with satisfying lower buy-in players as well. Now there is no choice at all. It also seems like every tournament is moving toward bigger stacks and shorter levels, which penalizes good players in most important stages of the tournament.

They have had 1-2 large ($500+) buyin events with a guarantee every month this year other than July(WSOP)
check out the schedule on cardplayer.

I've played in the friday and saturday tournaments. You start at 11am and your not cashing until 7-8pm. During the bubble average stack is 10-15bb(might be lower). In regular casino tournaments its always a flip fest towards the end.

The average stack in the big events is always high. i think the average was 40bbs at the WPT event entering the FT.

maybe saying that they are "giving us options" and a "change of pace" where the wrong phrases to use. The new tournament schedule should bring recreational players, regs who are looking for a change of pace, or people looking to gamble.

If your a serious reg then creating a environment where new players are encouraged to enter is a good thing. You want more recreational players in your room. I have had tons of friends who want to try poker but are too initimidated for a cash game and the 300-$500 buyin tournaments.

Change can be a good thing sometimes

Yeah they usually have 1 or 2 must moves feeding the main games.

This is exactly the problem. Increasing starting chips while reducing level time has the effect of keeping more people in the tournament longer but making everyone shorter-stacked at bubble and once in the money. It makes the tournament tedious at the beginning, and much more of a crapshoot at the end.

I'm sure you can understand that there are people who want to play in decent $300 one-day events that don't want to play in $3000 events that last for a week.

How is the new schedule going to serve "regs looking for a change of pace"? You can find tournaments with these sort of buy-ins at every AC poker room almost every day.

IIRC, under the old schedule, Borgata had about 10 tournaments per week that were ~$100 buy-ins, and 2 tournaments per week that were >$200. There were also a hundred tournaments a week with buy-ins = or < $100 at other AC poker rooms. Is eliminating the only options in the city for mid-stakes players really going to substantially increase traffic?

Sorry for the rant, but I'm just really disheartened by the changes in the Friday noon tournament. This was by far my favorite regular tournament in AC, and I just can't see myself ever playing in it under the new structure.

For the sake of completeness, I would not have seriously considered playing a $340 tournament unless it was a PLO, LO8, or LHE tournament during a series, but I could stomach a $200 daily if I happened to be there on a Friday and the cash games I wanted weren't running yet.

Customer likely lost, customer likely gained.

I like Rapini's point. I remember back in 2004 when I used to go to Foxwoods and they had a rotating schedule of tournaments that included PLO, Omaha 8/b, Stud, Stud 8/b, etc.

Maybe twice a month (make it Friday, Saturday or Sunday) they can run a non-NLH tournament @ $100 + $20 or even $150 + $30, just to spice up the schedule. The majority of those games would be PLO, Omaha 8/b, Omaha 8/b + Stud 8/b and HOSE (or HORSE if approved). I think this would have a decent chance of drawing the mixed game players over from Taj.

We cant even get a PLO game going during the week, and cant keep one going for more then 4 hours on the weekend. How exactly would a PLO tourney draw people to the casino?

It would draw the PLO players because it would something that is scheduled and guaranteed to run (unless absolutely nobody shows up). Then after the tournament was over and as people bust out, I'm sure PLO cash games would develop. Even if this PLO tournament started small with say 30 people, it might gain some momentum over time.

Personally, if I knew there was a PLO tournament that I could make, I would show up and play it, regardless of the amount of entrants and then bring some cash to play cash games afterwards, but that's just me.

It is a Sunday afternoon in the fall. This is not a busy time any year. Last night there were about 50 games going which is pretty good. Expect games to pick up during the holidays and winter open.

Last night, a dealer told me an underage player got caught playing 5/10nl several months back. Supposedly, he played several times before that as well. Dealer didnt know how he got caught though.

Pretty crazy if true that a 20 yr old is playing 5/10.

Anyone else hear about this?
