Sure we are. We had a great start to the championship event today with 315 runners. Tomorrow's Day 1B should be really good. Already have around 150 registered.

Stan,

Are there any discussions of changing or adding services to the room in order to mitigate the loss of players to local card rooms in PA and DE and god knows where next? I think it might be time to do some radical thinking and figure out how to re-invent poker rooms in general, in lieu of ever-increasing competition...curious to know if there is any major internal pow wow going on.

They started by changing the daily tournament schedule as of the end of the WPT. Baby steps...

KK makes a great point. The high limit room used to offer various apps and cookies around 5:30ish on Saturdays. I also seem to remember Steve ordering pizza earlier in the afternoon on Saturdays or on Sundays from the foodcourt. Things like that were really appriciated by the players.

I know that the high limit room has not been as affected by PA or DE as say the 1/2 or 2/5 population. However, once PARX has it real room (not the 25 table room with 300 on the 1/2 list) open the high limit games could very easily move there for good.

I think the tourny schedule is a great first step. However, a second or third step could really put the Borgata way ahead of its competiton just as was the case back in 2004-2006 when the Borgata became the premier poker room in AC or dare I say the county. This is not the time for a lack of imagination.

There are a lot things that we are discussing. I hope to be able to tell these changes in the next couple of weeks. Please be patient.

If we read between the lines, it is pretty obvious that Stan is talking about hot tubs.

Are Borgata dealers instructed that disclosing one's cards, in order to get a reaction (or for any reason) when the action is not complete, is against the rules?

This is common table chatter.

It's become common because the rules of the game have not been enforced.

If players are allowed to state what cards they hold, or even show their hands when the action is incomplete, when only being warned not to do so in the future, the inmates (players) are running the asylum (game) instead of the guards (dealers and floor staff).

By trying to be nice to players, and not enforcing the rules of the game, you're trying to encourage players to enjoy playing at Borgata so that they'll come back.

But, in return, you're weakening the quality of the tournaments that you offer. This is not a cash game, in which this "table talk" is permissible. This is a WPT main event at a site that I, and many people, would like to consider a premier location, not a home game where disclosing cards and showing hand with incomplete action is allowed and encouraged.

So, based on your answer, I guess that Borgata dealers are not advised that this behavior is against the rules.

I mean no disrespect. I just sometimes make observations, and ask questions when things don't seem to be as they should be. Just my opinion in the hopes that things will change for the better.

Also, A couple of TDA rules which apparently are unimportant at Borgata, but should be important and enforced (in my opinion) are:

41. No Disclosure

Players are obligated to protect the other players in the tournament at all times. Therefore, players, whether in the hand or not, may not:

1. Disclose contents of live or folded hands,
2. Advise or criticize play at any time,
3. Read a hand that hasn't been tabled.

The one-player-to-a-hand rule will be enforced.

42. Exposing Cards

A player who exposes his cards with action pending may incur a penalty, but will not have a dead hand. The penalty will begin at the end of the hand.

Stan,

Had another great time at the Borgata on Saturday. When I got there I went right to the security desk in the poker room, past the cashier. I asked to get my hand stamped which I have done each time I play there. The security guard said I needed to go to the main security podium on the casino floor to get the stamp. He did walk me back there and was incredibly friendly, but I was just wondering if there was a reason they can't stamp in the poker room anymore.

Also, before I left I walked around the edge of the room, thought i saw you. Wanted to say hello but wasn't sure if it was you. If you asked two kids that look 15 walking by the back corner of the room for ID, that was me.

Thanks for another great poker experience.

I'm confused -- what exactly is the problem with the chatter between Buchman and his opponent? No one else was in the hand.

In tournament you shouldn't discuss hands even when HU (unless you're down to 2 players). The reasons is that it's mathematically possible for 2 players to conspire to increase their combined equity at the expense of everyone else at the table.

There's no reason why exposing your cards heads-up in a cash game should be against the rules. In fact, I think the option makes the game more interesting. Poker is about reading the other player and preventing them from reading you. If you can't hold your poker face, it doesn't mean the game should be castrated.

It would be much easier if people just stopped exposing their cards. I wish that was the rule, in tourney and cash.
