I had never seen a picture of "Lennay" before this story hit. If I had, it was a few seconds in a puff piece on ESPN or something. Very plausible that if she's living in California, which is not exactly college football or Notre Dame crazy, that neither she nor any of her friends would have looked deep enough into CFB coverage to realize it.

not surprised, but also not too impressed with the ways they're trying to explain away the Te'o's being on record as having met her and all that.

Few things:

- If Te'o is really totally innocent, then Tuiasosopo is the greatest con artist of all time. But still what was his end game? He is really going to keep this up for 3 years and then just kill her off for sport?
- Te'o still deserves blame for playing it up. Maybe this is a Mormon thing but I don't know how in the world you love someone so much and even call her your girlfriend without ever seeing her face-to-face. He should not have made as big of a deal of it as he did.

Seems like that's never going to get answered. If they let him be the fall guy, and take the full hit, they will not cooperate and Te'o will not have to explain the girl on the phone as he isn't in as part of the hoax. Ronaiah will refuse to cooperate as well and the "girl on the phone" will be a dead end.

Seems like the Ronaiah = mastermind and 100% of the hoax is the hand they decided to play.

It's like < 1% that Maui'a is wrong on this. Not only does he know her family and that her dad died recently, he knows her age range, and he knows that she lives in CA. Samoans are a really tight bunch family to family so i'm buying this all day.

I am really curious as to how Maui'a ID'd her tho. He only references her as Kekua in all his quotes, so if we can get some confirmation that Lennay Kekua is her actual name that would work. Or, if Kekua is her first or last name that they used in combination with a fictitious first name of Lennay. Or, if Maui'a is just referencing her as Kekua, but actually protecting her real name.
