I read it as they claimed they were going to allow Te'o/his family/his agent reveal it on Monday (3 days ago, not next Monday), but Te'o's people didn't reveal it, and then Deadspin hit. Which is a lil suspicious if he was innocent and wanting to come clean.

The milking of the fake death after not seeing her while sick, or seeing her while healing from the car accident, or visiting her grave doesn't make this a huge stretch, IMO.

That said, Te'o did mention that account -- which Deadspin reported didn't exist in November. He either forgot that the "love of his life's" Twitter account was changed or knew of the hoax by then and was milking it so no one would try to make a legit communication with the account he was mentioning.

This is part of the reason it is so enjoyable for me. All the other scandals of recent memory had significant loss of human dignity, happiness, freedom, life and limb, etc. This is like a feel good for the whole family!

What, why does that seem like a stretch.
I think at this point there are 3 basic possibilities
1. He is super duper naive and is the victim of the most elaborate and unlikely catfish of all time. Yet in spite of this naivete, he was dastardly enough to play up her alleged death and milk it to his benefit for all it's worth
2. He's gay and wanted to use her as his beard. This doesn't explain the death + milking
3. He's a sociopath who masterminded this scheme to gain national attention
Personally I'm having a hard time conceiving of a scenario where he's not sociopathic.
