Sorry, that was kinda stream of consciousness. I think that is going to be the strategy at this point:

- Ronaiah takes blame and claims he is the only one responsible
- Te'o is 100% innocent and victim of a hoax
- Ronaiah refuses to cooperate
- Story never has all the questions answered

Obviously the real story could be that Ronaiah and Manti are gay, but it seems like the strategy for max damage control is to have Ronaiah take the hit and try and leave Manti as the victim as much as possible.

Some cringe-worthy moments:

Surely, with what he'd been through, Te'o felt a little powerless. He then heard Bridget's story, and maybe he just wanted the feeling that there was something he could do.


My girlfriend, when she was at St. Jude's in LA, she had a little friend,; Te'o said. Her little friend passed away two weeks before my girlfriend passed away. So I've experienced a lot of that . . .

If Te'o said those things knowing that Lennay was a hoax, that is some legitimately evil stuff. While I had a bad feeling about his involvement initially, I'm beginning to think the Gullible-OAT explanation to be most likely.

I guess phone records would be a decent starting point for the new media. That could force Te'o to speak about it, if it is shown that he actually never spoke to someone all that often, or the number is for Ronaiah of all the long calls. Which would be LOL to the max.

Gene Wojciechowski on ESPN was saying that once Manti told ND about it they started coaching him on how to address it in the media and how to spin his answers to be about moving forward and avoiding the past where he would have to keep talking about it and bringing up more details. This isn't a straight cover-up per say, but I think it speaks to the mentality of handling crises' in general and the preference to spin something vs. tell the truth.

What motivation is there for a girl to talk to him on the phone for that many years every night? I would've said "f*** this" after like the third night.

I want to know who (not really her identity) the girl that they used for the voice on the phone was. She played along with the long con with no real incentive. Unless it turns out money was transferred she basically just talked for hours with this dude. She is probably an uggo.

imo there is a <1% chance there was a girl involved in this. IF there was, it was incredibly exaggerated to the max because even considering everything that has unfolded so far if there was someone actually spending this much time on the phone in the name of a hoax Te'o should probably be afraid for his life, because that is a sick obsessive amount of time to **** with someone.

Yeah, anyone I've ever known in a real long distance relationship has been absolutely miserable, and they actually got to get laid every few weekends or when they went home or whatever. A fake long distance relationship really seems like the worst

Well yeah but there is a pretty huge difference in coaching him how to handle this from the belief that he is the victim, and coaching him how to handle this if you believe he is in on it. One is really scummy and one isn't at all.

Personally I think he has to be involved somehow in this, but I wouldn't be surprised if ND powers truly believe him or whatever. I mean they believed in Charlie weis so anything is possible.
