Hey NIN

I am a regular 5/10 player, and we started a petition about 4 weeks ago when we learned that 5/10 was being considered for the next BBJ. We did not get enough signatures to get people to keep 5/10 excluded...

How long is it until poker comp dollars expire?

Also, I haven't been there in a little while -- how are the pink chip games? Maybe the LHE one is dead, but is the pink chip O8 still running, at least on the weekends? Or is the whole thing just "meh" ?

Six months for Borgata comp dollars until they expire.

Or maybe they could have shared in what was contributed overall during that time period that the 5-10 started??

One question mark will still do.

Strange. I was there in September and earned $17.61.

Now it's showing that it has already expired and my balance is $0. Is there some sort of rule that you have to keep earning to keep what you've got?

How many signatures did you need? How many 5/10 regulars are there?

If it was earned, it would be under "earned". This is under adjustments, so I think there's something else weird going on.

I can't imagine that it would be good for the 5/10 game to be excluded from the BBJ when the 2/5 game isn't.

I'd love it if there were no BBJs in AC, but as long as there are I want all of the game I play in to have one too. Just look at what happened a week or so ago when a bunch of 5/10 players dropped down to 2/5 to play in the big jackpot. I have to imagine that on average those were some of the poorer 5/10 players and that didn't help the 5/10 game at all.

Comps earned from poker are always listed under "Adjustments". I have had comps from poker expire early several times. If you visit the Borgata card center, they will restore them. But it is still annoying.

You're absolutely right. At this point nothing can be done about it.

And you're also correct in a sense in that I am upset I did not say something Before the BBJP was hit by the 5-10 game, not that it probably would have made a difference to management and I figured, what were the odds....

Wish I had heard about the petition.

If it starts up again please circulate it around.
Between tips, time, badbeat.....how much does it cost a year to play now?
thanks.

Anyone know how late I can "pre-register" online for the 500k? I'm going to give at least one of the satellites a shot, but if they don't work out and I need to buy in full, I'd prefer to use a credit card so I can at least get the freq flyer miles for it. Will I be able to register online with my cc on Sunday Nov. 15 or is it cut off long before the tourney begins?

Be careful putting something like this on a credit card. I have never done it. But I suspect that it may be treated as a cash advance and not a purchase. Cash advances normally have very high rates, with finance charges generated instantly with no grace period and fees of 3% or so, with no miles earned.

Maybe Stan knows for sure if registering online for a Borgata tournament with a credit card is processed as a cash advance by Borgata?

I do not know the answer to that question. You need to call the credit card co. and ask them.

It is usually open until a week out, so say around the 8th of Nov.

It is going to depend on how the merchant, in this case, Borgata, has it set up. Each terminal will have a "MCC" - Merchant Category Code established with it. This helps credit card companies companies identify what type of transaction it is. Say you use your credit card at Bobby Flay - it will appear to the processor as "Restaurant". If you use your card at the casino cage for a cash advance, it will appear to the processor as "Casino or Cash Advance", and you will be charge any fees and higher APR for a cash advance. Many credit card companies stipulate in the fine print that "the purchase of casino chips" is a cash advance. For example, let's say you do not have the ability to get a cash advance on your credit card, the MCC codes will be restricted on your card, and if you attempt to get a cash advance at an ATM or casino cage, it will reject the card if the cashier cage terminal is setup with a MCC for cash advances.

Sorry, don't mean to get all technical, but how the merchant terminal is identified is how your card will be charged. If the cashier cage is processing the payment, then more the likely it will show up as a cash advance. If another terminal or outside third party is processing the payment, it may process as something different.

Fantastic advice...although it won't matter since I pay my bill in full every month. I won't get hit with those ridiculous rates.

Not true.

Although you may pay in full monthly, an upfront 3% fee with finance charges on the cash advance from the date of the charge cannot be avoided. Plus, when you pay the statement balance in full with the cash advance on it, the payment will be applied to new transactions that you have not yet been billed for on a statement, and not to the cash advance. Just like playing table games in a casino, the house (credit card issuer) has the edge and you're playing by their rules.

If you do preregister online, it's best to use a debit card that merely transfers the cash from a checking account. Attempting to earn miles for something like this is a wasted effort.

You have been warned.

I guess the way to solve the problem would be to use the card, and make an immediate payment for it. I'll avoid the finance charges (since you need at least one day to accumulate a DPR, iirc). If I get the miles, great--if not, no harm no foul. I have the money to pay for the buyin anyway--might as well go for it.

Thanks for all of the input though, I appreciate it.

Or, make a payment 1 day BEFORE you charge the entry fee onto your card....

Let us know how it goes. I am quite interested to see how it processes.

I appreciate this warning. I've never taken a cash advance before. I trust you guys to know more than me. You're right that the miles aren't worth the hassle or confusion.
