The main and underlying issue is the insane hypocracy of banning igaming in the first place. It is hypocracy on a nation wide scale and everyone knows it. Until people stand up against this hypocrisy that is allowed to continue and we get strong armed by a government that "knows whats best" is the longer we are complacent to a hypocritical, oppressive system that inches daily towards a ****ing police state. Yes, it took THIS for me to stand up and make my voice heard, after they took the food out of my mouth. Sometimes, it takes straight oppression for people to stand up against it. This is oppression and should NEVER be accepted in a country that calls itself free. This needs to be fought, not just for ipoker players but for anyone who thinks its NOT ok that our government can tell us what to do with our money. If this shut down does not induce serious revolt, then we dont ****ing deserve our own freedom.
Yea they were very stupid with all the fraud stuff. But the decision to stay in the US as the UIGEA took affect is what ultimately did them in I think.

Well it looks like the players who can play this years SCOOP will have a field day with all the extra money in the prize pools. Theres no way the guarantees will be met without the buyins from US players.

I'd love the play an event that starts sometime at 2:00am central Europe time like SCOOP-05-M, the turbo $109r with $500k guaranteed. I just don't think it would be possible without US players to reach the $500k threshold were Pokerstars wouldn't have to add their money to the prize pool.

For example, the nightly $70k went off tonight with only 1102 players which is only $55,100, leaving stars to pick up the $14,900.

I wonder if the guarantees will be adjusted.

Also they have no payment processors in the states anymore.
04-16-2011 , 04:46 AM
I'm sure they will lower the guarantees.

I wonder how this will affect the rest of poker industry in the US. How long until the TV shows disappear since so much of the advertising money comes from the Ipoker sites? What will happen to WSOP participation if the online grinders don't have money to play and there aren't any online seat winners? Without TV coverage and large WSOP fields, will interest in poker in general dry up in the US?

I have never heard more absurd reporting.

We are just another group of victims from Preet Bharara's crusade to "do the right thing".

Maybe by Monday people will care. NBC, ESPN, Vegas, the "pros".....no one, 2p2, the sites, the PPA took it seriously until yesterday. But, the response seems defeatist, so maybe we will all just disappear to the overpasses with signs
saying out of work grinder, please help.

There are two facts about this seizure that a lot of people are missing:

1. It is just the latest in a long string of seizures and prosecutions initiated against online gambling and internet poker by the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York.

2. The seizures by the US Attorney in the SDNY are not official or national DOJ policy. This is a campaign being waged against internet gambling and poker by one (lunatic, self-aggrandizing) federal prosecutor in New York. That office a. operates, as all US Attorneys operate, essentially without supervision from DC, and b. has been behind all of the seizures.

So when you say that maybe this is clearing the path for the Vegas casinos to enter the online market, you're assuming that there is some reason a federal prosecutor in New York would bring to bear all of the resources of his office to hook up Harrah's. It's crazy.

This didn't happen out of the blue--this prosecutor's office has been doing stuff like this for years. Most of you just never noticed because it never personally affected you before today.

The reason that this seizure seems out of step with other developments (the introduction of legislation on capitol hill, the Wynn/stars partnership, etc.) is simply because the USA for SDNY is operating independently of Washington.
So what can we do to stomp on these sociopathic mouthbreathing overachieving dolts?

What is Preet Bharara's angle in all this and why does every action of this type originate from the Southern District of NY?

Btw, US players can still play overseas by going through a proxy, preferably a commercial one. So far as foreign bank accounts go, some paperwork hassle but no real obstacle there either. If you really, really want to play, get set up with a foreign bank account. It's a good insurance policy anyway, there are people who did this in the weeks following UIGEA.

****ing SDNY...

They def will. The nightly 100k was snap changed to the nightly 50k last night. They won't have a prob doin this for SCOOP.

So my question is, have we all been breaking a law by playing online? Yea, I know the standard response but, um people are being indicted for running an illegal gambling business.
