Day 28 of 34

The unit is officially at it's capacity, 48 participants, male and female, all drugged, all have signed on the dotted line, and each has their own stretch of time ahead of them. Personal space is a luxury no longer available, as is a simple visit to a restroom without being assaulted by the smell of anonymous sh*t. Ever been to the toilets on a cruise ship or other enclosed environment the day after "curry night"? Lord have mercy.

The mix of guys and girls from all around this and other countries gives the place a strange feel, like a backpacker hostel that you can't leave. I'm pretty sure the only thing preventing it from descending into a full blown orgy is the lack of alcohol (although there has been talk of mixing a few handfuls of alcohol swabs into the cordial, so far we have refrained). But even without booze, there are enough subjects drugged out of their minds that I wouldn't be surprised if this was already happening, not least of all because of the rumours already in circulation regarding possible f*cking in the unit. But on the whole we are all pretty well behaved in here. Unless one of our meals is 60 seconds+ late, then there's trouble.

Without the exercise bike the only thing to do to keep fit is to walk the main hallway. It curves around in a J shape and is around 50 metres in length. Bed 6 and I walk it for around 90-120 minutes each night, usually around midnight when there's nothing else to do. It's better than nothing... **** I miss the exercise bike.

It's an interesting place, this weird drug testing place. Some days you hate it, other days you don't wanna leave. Until the day comes where you're all done and they pay you your cash. For my time served I will be given $6,600 tax-free, all of which I will use to get me to the Philippines for however long it lasts. With my 120 ban from online poker, my AA foundation, and all the dumb lessons I learned the hard way, I am hopeful that this time around my story will be a very different one. After 6 years of going around in circles in this city, I'm finally getting out, getting real far away from anyone in this world that I've ever met or known. I am real scared but the fear itself compells me further. When I think how afraid I am to be all alone in a strange country, it scares me even more to think about staying here, running on the tired wheel of death. I don't care what happens over there, I welcome it all.

I have a vague plan of life between now and July 2012. Conclude this trial in < 1 week, get out and get healthy and fit to recover from the hospital food and laying around, sell a lot of crap to raise money for the cause, see some family for Christmas then go away with a few friends for a couple of days, return and with any luck Melbourne will finally have their **** sorted regarding their January drug trials and I can head over there for a couple months, ship more maney and then BOOM - enter the unknown, a different world with no plan for return until June when I will go to Sydney for the Evil Invaders IV festival. Everything after that is a blank, that can only be filled in by whoever the person is that returns. Assuming he does. All will be written down and posted on these forums, either here or another sub-forum, depending on the general feedback ITT. Not gonna write for a bunch of haters and trolls when there might be other people that would actually enjoy it, but all of that remains to be seen. Regardless of where I write I'll still make sure I put it all down, it will be a cool thing for me to read in the future, and could come in handy should I stumble into trouble and my steps need to be retraced.

I will answer any questions and comments that might pop up but this will be the last update regarding my time in here. I feel that the interest in this thread has pretty much died off, so I'll leave it now having already cluttered up the front page long enough. I may pick it up if I enter the Melbourne facility, will wait and see. Thanks to all that have been along for the ride, I hope I gave you guys an interesting look into the world of human drug testing and clinical trials, and apologies to all who were disappointed by the self destructive path I went on after leaving the hospital. I'm just glad to have written a story that some people liked reading.

Loneliness Drug study was tough. Toughest role you ever played. Hollywood BBV4L created a superstar, and pain was the price you paid.

***EXIT DAY***

Un-****ing-real... it is soooo good to be outside, it is an insanely beautiful day and I'm in love with the fresh air and the sunshine, like Scorpions lyrics 40 years back. I am in total sensory overload. First order of business was a visit to a friends cafe for an amazing breakfast (no rancid greasefilth this time) and COFFEE. The caffeine surges through my bloodstream and is like an orgasm for my deprived receptors. Soaked it up for a bit, and I'm now currently on a bus heading home to drop off all my gearn and then I'm gonna ride my bike to the beach. Does it get any better than this?

Can't really even express how it feels. You have to be in that place for as long as we were to appreciate how good sun and air really is. And freedom. That's one of the best perks of these medical trial gigs - you actually realize how lucky you are to have these simple gifts. Even toast is a luxury (we have cold, refrigerated bread for breakfast and lunch each day).

I met some amazing people in that place. 95% of the population were an exercise in tolerance, but the others were that rare type that one is fortunate to ever find. Might sound strange but it's the truth - connections of spirit can be found in the strangest places. If that place was like a hostel I'm looking forward to the real thing.

All this time away from alcohol and online poker is having a profound effect on my mental state. It's very strange and awesome territory. It's like a reconnection with myself. On the last night of the study, the true resident degens put in $20 for one last high stakes (lol) poker game, winner-takes -all. Having been defeated for the past four games in a row, it was with great pleasure that I took it down and was able to have some spending money for my imminent release.

Annndddd now I'm home, and I'm locked outta the house. My mother must be out shopping or something... In my haste I forgot to pack my housekey haha. This could potentially be a problem, as the recently consumed coffee is currrently getting reacquainted with my bowels. Not a whole lot to be done about that except pray. I'm now sitting in my car, which is pretty much a sauna, I'm sweating my balls off, so ****in good. Spose I'll just write about a few of the interesting things I experienced during my stay in the unit:

- A complete abundance of fascinating human behaviour, especially the drastic shift in the dynamic when females are introduced. Think of an "intruder" episode of Big Brother

- Conflict arising from me calling out a guy who lied about getting one of the girls' numbers to my face in front of the rest of the group, and getting an admission of guilt in the face of my impeccable and unrelenting case against him (petty events such as these do well to break the monotony, it's like our own little soap opera in there, and we do love our petty victories)

- Being accused of thievery from the kitchen, and having these misconceptions remain in the minds of certain staff, and the feelings of frustration that comes with false accusation.

- Long and awesome one on one conversations with bleary eyes well into the rising dawn sun

- The poker games, and the degen staff who risked their jobs to partake in our late night games

- The three hour long religious and philosophical debates arising out of sheer boredoom and the need for anything intense, the fury of discussion and fatigue of exertion

- The 20+ hours I paced like I caged lion and the thoughts that raced up and down those corridors

- The exhilerating spectrum of inner being and the meditative effect of confinement

Tripped out ****, at least it was from the inside. There was also one ****ing insane dream that completely changed my whole perception of the place and the people, and how it brought me closer to the experience and formed close bonds... sounds crazy and it was. That's all for now, mum is home and I can get into the house and unpack my stuff. More will come soon, and I am pleasantly surprised that there's still interest in all of this. I'm more than happy to keep on going so long as that's the case. I want to respond to posts as soon as I get the chance, but for now I gotta move move move. Thanks again and holy **** is it good to be out!!!

Wow my internet is actually ****ing working for once. Sweet.

Life is pretty awesome right now except for the crushing lack of sleep, but no matter, fun > sleep right? I can't even remember what my own bed feels like lol. Last night was the best time I've had in like 5 years, such a blast, so many old friends, some new ones. Partied till 9am with good people. Total collapse will surely come soon. And my lungs feel like they've been vaporized from all the smoking. I'm gonna use my one time and pray like hell that I pass my medical screening which is in ~36 hours. Everything is rolling along nicely. I gotta say though I do miss the place in a sick institutionalized kinda way. Maybe it's the showers. High pressure water flow is god, the goddamn watering can showerhead here sucks ass.

However, I would still caution that because poker affects your mind and triggers a high--engaging in it at the wrong time/place could trigger you to lose control in many different ways. You just need to stay smart and remember how hard you've worked to get sane again. Don't piss it all away for an hour or two of fun online or at the casino.

Glad to see you on the right track.
Spot on mate. Poker is always gonna be a tricky thing for me, even the low stakes hospital games triggered the old intensity and got my legs jimmying like a crackhead. My vacation from online poker was definitely hugely +ev, in regards to the odd recreational punt at the cas I'm doing my best to keep it chilled and not get swallowed up in the vortex. But I gotta be oh so careful. Cheers for lookin out dude. Got a sick writing project underway atm with my brother, the seed of which was planted last night under the huge muzzle flash of the electric veins that surged in the night sky, and I'm very excited
