Good Luck NWB, your post sounds very level headed and optimistic. Try and stay upbeat about your next testing stint in the hospital, I'm sure you can find a way to make it fun. Cheers.

You can't play 1 tourney a week- if you had that kind of control you wouldn't have blown 8 grand and blacked out multiple times.

you cannot control your poker- or your drinking- what is the first thing they tell you in AA? you have to submit yourself- you have to give up essentially and understand you cannot control your behavior.

Stop with this rationalization this is such classic addict behavior and thinking. YOU CANNOT CONTROL YOURSELF WHEN YOU PLAY POKER- until you accept this you are going to rinse and repeat until something horrible happens.

Setting limits is a start though, i think as op gets older he will become more conservative, which is crucial to his survival imho.

OP is obv a decent player, but with horrible tilt problems, so i think if he fixes the tilt, NWB and poker can co-exist.

I was thinking something similar. You can't quit poker and play once a week. If you quit for the time being it has to be a 100% effort.

Actually, I think it's a start. If he fails at being able to limit himself to just one tourney a week and instead goes ape****, he'll hopefully be forced to realize that just like drinking--he can't simply "play one tourney."

I do think that his gambling addiction is likely much less of a problem than his alcoholism. Just a theory and I could be wrong--but I feel like his obsession with poker is more about escaping from his day to day life issues. if he starts facing his life, it's likely poker will start to naturally fade as well.

Just the fact that he's starting to admit he's never going to be anything but a recreational player is a step in that direction. The next step is either to stick with an occasional game here and there and that's about it--or to realize he's unable to do even that much playing, and completely go cold turkey.

Either way, whatever he was doing before is unsustainable at this point.

Thanks for addressing the drinking & driving NWB. You are a very likeable person so I was enjoying reading everything you had to say up until your alcoholism was putting others at risk. Then I became a hater. So I'm glad you see the seriousness of this and I'm glad I no longer have to be a hater.

Now I'm looking forward to human guinea pig part II and I hope you keep us all posted with your daily GFS FN INACTIVITY lol, nurse boob II and hopefully as good a group of fellow guinea pig inmates as last time.

GL NWB

... I might even shoot you a few $'s once I know you're locked down lol

Just found out Pokerstars have doubled a bunch of their guarantee's - tonight's $55 PLO 30k now has a 60k prize pool, sick. Hopefully get a nice overlay...

5 hours and 17 minutes to go. Used my FPP's to add another $77 to the cause, which will go a long way in helping me be able to play while I'm inside. Still no booze, although last night was hard. I'm gonna make a lil prayer to Gamblor tonight. Let me run good. Peace.

If the above's true, what happened to playing one tournament a week?

How on earth does someone not realize they cannot control their gambling/drinking even after all that has happened? It's one thing to not be able to quit or just not be able to control yourself- that is completely understandable- but to not even realize it is a denial that goes well into pathological territory.

Degen's anti-bankroll mindset boldness added. How'd that turn out for ya NWB?

Do I really need to explain?

Ok, I'll make this brief as I'm a little surprised that this even needs an explanation. I had around 2,500 FPP's sitting in my account. Having no need for shirts or scarves, I decided to try and use them to get me more buy ins for the weekly tourney. Feel free to point out how this is outrageous degen behaviour.

Thankyou for your expert analysis. Out of curiosity, was that the one that I won?

Turned out well thanks. I'm not sure if this was clear at all, but I actually intend to play the weekly tournament while doing my medical trial. I ended up earning $99 in tournament cash from my FFP's, this covers the cost of my buy in for a couple of weeks. Why the hate?

Not sure why I'm justifying my actions here. I have stuck to my plan, I haven't drank, and I haven't spent a cent on poker except for the Saturday tournament. Come on guys, save your criticism for the times I actually f*ck up, not the times I play satellites with my FPP's.

At least you realize that by doing what you are doing you will continue to f*ck up. This is moving toward a more realistic assessment of your life.

Well I for one can see why people (including myself) misunderstood your intention to stick to the plan. You didn't say buy-ins, and for people like me who aren't familiar with that tournament, it wasn't obvious that this was for more buy-ins.

I say well done that you're keeping with the plan!!

Glad you've decided to limit yourself, I'm also fighting some silly addictions(no way near as severe as you have them, lucky me woohoo) and it's hard man. I've got a Psychologist friend who told me the best way to stop an addiction is simply 100% withdrawal from it, something to think about.... But if you can keep it a recreation than by all means, maybe limit yourself to tournaments or something like that

OP, since you ignored my advice to consider the second coming of big brother Australia, perhaps you could put yourself to use at Occupy Adelaide?

Dunaden by any chance?
