I really like the Keith Van Horn pick. I watched tons of nets games from his rookie season onwards, and he was very impressive as a young player. I honestly thought he would end up being more of a stud than he did, as he had the right skill set to put up big numbers but he never really improved... still very good value at this point IMO and it's nice to have someone on your bench who will give you some instant offense.

Great thread....obviously haven't read all of it, but you should consider installing these teams into whatifsports.com, creating a private league and run out an 82 game season using each players' best season and see who comes out on top.

Would be awfully interesting...

Sort of speaks to the lack of bigmen left when lasalle and spider just got picked. BPA for their position no doubt, tho. The thing that sucks about lasalle though is that you miss his 22/23 seasons, which were probably his best.

I like KVH, I think he was BPA left.

Ricky Davis. I remember in Cleveland he had some insane-o dunk on a fast break where he almost took off from the FT line, destroyed some poor sap, and when he landed just screamed "OH SHT!" Thats all the nice things I have to say about him.

There is a guy out there that is v v similar to Davis who I would have taken instead just b/c he's not Ricky ****ing Davis.

Also, now KC gets to link to Ricky's triple double attempt.

On wiki it says he wants to play for every NBA franchise in his career. LOL.

Man, take it from someone who got to watch Ervin up close during his prime, he isn't just the worst offensive player in this league, he is likely the most inept offensive player in the history of the NBA. Very solid defensively and rebounding obviously.

Looking at his numbers, no way that can be true. His first two years were Ben Wallace esque, but after that, he was reasonably efficient until around 33, although his already small usage rate plummeted after 30. In his prime though, no way he can the most inept offensive player in the history of the league.

yeah he was OK. He'll pick up dunks and layups off of nice feeds and putbacks. He's mostly DD's backup or Vlade if we want to get all nightmarish on defense (and just rain jumpshots on offense). His durability rules, and he lines up nicely with my team's prime ~5 or 6 years into the league, where we'll then rattle off a 3peat.

I could use a solid backup PG, but Starks can manage should I get stuck with all bad ones to choose from (doubtful), whereas big men we're running short on.

There's one REAL face melter left that I almost took but he just didn't fit.

I think there is a little difference between being inept offensively and actually hurting your team on that end. Mark Eaton and Ben Wallace, both sub .500 TS% big men, are offensive negatives by a large margin. Ervin, on the other hand, at least takes better shots.

On the defensive end, Ervin was a beast and imo the best defender taken in the last couple rounds. He was a monster on the boards, and only Ben, Deke, Timmay, Barkley, Marcus, Ty Hill, Shaq, and Shawn Kemp have a higher rebounding percentage.

I give Ervin the edge over Ben because his FT shooting is respectable. But he is sooooo bad offensively. I remember he would get an offensive rebound and then almost always have to pass out. Just had no clue what to do with the ball in his hands.

he was super sick on the glass and on D though. To have that high of a block % over that long of a career is rare.

It was funny, he would get the board - and not one of those long / let's reset the offense boards, but a right under the basket / no one between him and the hoop / throw it down big fella type of boards - and he would still pass the ball! The sad thing is, if he did try to go up with it, he would get blocked ALOT. And by guys much smaller than him. He just didnt know how to use his body well at all. I think that shows up in his fouls/36 as well.
