Imagine the kicks a troll would get out of having such a high profile player waste 1/3 of his day on the phone talking to a tape recorder

Why didn't he figure out she was fake? Because they weren't as close as he described.
Why didn't they meet? Because they weren't really talking as much as he said
Why didn't he step in front of the media craziness when he could have? Because the relationship wasn't that BIGGEST DEAL EVER like he said it was and he probably never thought it would get this far.

If I hadn't read the SI interview, this would probably be my conclusion. But I have a really hard time with the "things just got out of hand" stance when the supposed circumstances of her life, accident, sickness and death were THAT detailed and THAT remarkable.
Think about what he said in that interview- those are not the actions of somebody trying to sweep something under the rug, and they don't seem to be the actions of somebody trying to embellish a semi-online girlfriend.

I still prefer Homer's original take:
"Oh Mindy,
You came and you gave without flaking,
But you gave me Ben-Gay, oh Andy,
You came and you stopped me from something..."

Yeah, I don't understand. Like, how is he not talking to her a lot or trying to do vid chat or something? So he must be exaggerating the relationship otherwise that would be a ton of work and a lot of avoidance for the person responsible for this.

"It sounds like you're infatuated with a woman named Mindy. ...or a man named Andy."
I also love the fact that Homer is basically singing about stuff in his medicine cabinet.

Manti Te'o is probably a late 2nd round talent at best. He plays a high variance style lb that worked for his Int #'s in college. He was 57th in the country in total tackles per game!!!!! He honestly wouldn't be able to hold Luke Kuechley's jock strap and in no scenario should he be drafted around the same number as him.

I think it's possible the media started running with this story and he was too embarrassed to admit he got duped by an online girlfriend and the story just kept growing and growing out of control as ND kept winning games and he kept playing well.
|
ZB - you're obviously a very smart guy, so don't take this the wrong way - but this is a sort of nonsensical stance to take, especially the bolded.
Even if he was fully duped during the SI interview back in September (totally possible of course) - T'eo agreed to a lengthy, on the record interview with a major publication on this specific topic, going on and on about this woman we now know he never even met IRL. He clearly has for some time now (duped, or not duped) set about leveraging this situation for positive press. Is that despicable/lolworthy considering the context? Maybe that's the ultimate question.

I dunno. Te'o can be a serviceable Will in a 3-4. Definitely a guy who can only look good with his teammates cutting off the flats though. Otherwise, RBs and slots are break his gambling ankles, forced to solo tackle and cover real NFL talent in bunches.

Re: Manti Ruh R'oh
I just watched ESPN's recent report on this and it just reeked of bull****. This whole recent spin on this story is complete bull****.
Also, why are people letting Notre Dame off the hook? As someone mentioned earlier they recently ran a charity event for this fake girl. NOTRE DAME KNEW THIS GIRL WAS FAKE AND LIED ABOUT IT TO THEIR ADVANTAGE, REPEATEDLY.

This just went to another level imo:
Quote:
Manti Te'o has told family and friends that the woman who was the voice of his fictitious girlfriend “Lennay Kekua” called him in December and said she had to fake her own death months earlier to elude drug dealers, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser has learned.

Re: Manti Ruh R'oh
If the latest stuff about Tuiasosopo having a female cousin play the part of the girl on the phone is true, then....wow. I have to think he made her believe that there was some kind of big payday at the end of the rainbow in order to get her to do this. Because if he didn't do that and somehow convinced her to do it for that long just...because, then she's just as outrageously stupid as Te'o or Tuiasosopo is a Jim Jones-level persuasive sociopath. And given the manner and detail with which Te'o spoke in regards to their phone conversations, it sure seems as though that they actually took place.

Re: Manti Ruh R'oh
I did not see this turn coming.
"I am sorry I had to fake the death of Lennay, the girl I was pretending to be, who isn't actually real, I was on the run from drug dealers, it is really scary. Would you fall assleep with me on the phone tonight?"

The woman told the ESPN show “Outside the Lines” that Ronaiah Tuiasosopo of California cried when he admitted to her in December that he was involved in the scam. ESPN did not identify the woman at her request but described her as in her 20s and a church friend of Tuiasosopo.
"He (Ronaiah) told me Manti was not involved at all, he was a victim. The girlfriend was a lie; the accident was a lie; the leukemia was a lie," the woman told ESPN. "He was crying; he was literally crying. He's like 'I know, I know what I have to do.'"
|
Wait i don't understand this part. Someone clear up my confusion. I thought Tuiasosopo organized the hoax and got this girl to talk to Manti and stuff on the phone.
But she didn't know Tuiasosopo was involved?

Chick in the ESPN article is a "church friend" of Tiausposposp.
Chick who was Lennay's voice is some other chick.
You gotta give T'eo credit where credit is due tho - didn't fall for the "had to fake my own death to elude drug dealers" line!

I see. I skimmed the paragraphs in the middle and didn't realize "the woman" was someone else
