I agree that they would feel slow rolled but think that's a terrible excuse to not respond to genuine enquiries from people, not saying you imply otherwise. Would be very disappointed if they suddenly replied just because they received the donations personally..

If you get the chance I think it would be nice if you could talk to them and see what happened with their correspondence with Dean. Not as important but perhaps a break down confirmed of how they intend to spend the money would be nice for the people who donated too.

Well I doubt they see the connection between Dean contacting them and me/dak writing them a mail.

Yeah I agree it's not a great excuse at all. I'll definitely speak with them tomorrow.

Yeah fair enough. I assumed you guys would have mentioned a large donation that was promised last year, that's all.

Abe, Marc and I have discussed this a lot, and have jointly decided that it's time we made the following post.

We don't believe that Dean initially set out to scam the community. However, we don't believe the version of events that he has given us privately, and it's clear at this point that he has stolen the $6k that was intended to be sent to charity. We've each made numerous attempts to reach out to him over the past few weeks, but he has continued to avoid any meaningful communication. He's clearly lied about his personal issues, and has made no attempt to honestly explain the situation. We therefore feel it's time to accept that the money that was entrusted to Dean has been stolen, and we hope he comes to his senses and makes some attempt to rectify the situation before it escalates further.

thanks for coming forward with the post.

if you guys are fine with it, i think that can serve as an appropriate edited cliff-notes in the original OP of this thread.

Does this type of situation warrant posting in the Negative Feedback Thread in MP? If so, someone closely tied to the situation should post about it.

Its kinda sad that $4.9k of the $6.1k were funds bogan won himself and was to donate.

Edit

I mean with his talent, this never should have happened.

Wow it was that much eh I remember he had a big day. Bogans mindset after hitting some hard times probably like, well I made the 5k anyway and its like 1/4th of what I made in my poker career outside staking **** them.
03-07-2013 , 06:57 AM
Wow. This whole thing just sucks. Initially I was concerned for Bogan's health even though I'm not exactly his biggest fan, but now it doesn't seem like there can be many excuses made for him after that post from LO.

I didn't approve of the fundraising tactics for the charity drive in the beginning, and not only is it particularly galling to hear that Bogan has stolen half the money, but also that he's been uncontactable by his horses for several months, and has presumably left in the lurch some guys who might be relying on poker for income. I would at least understand on some level if this whole thing was an after-effect of some horrible breakdown or depression he had, but it certainly doesn't seem like that's the case.

GG Bogan's reputation I guess, not a good day for MTTc.

Yes, this needs to be reported. Stealing/with-holding money from a fund raising event is some of the most messed up sh*t i've seen on 2+2.

I'm now withdrawing this sentence, having spoken to a number of people who had dealings with Dean.

yes, miserable 6K. he could have stolen way more if he wanted to. why would he only steal 6K? im not being nice here, im just being logical.
how about $30k? Would that be enough?

Gonna wait for a few people to come online before posting more.
03-07-2013 , 01:14 PM
Marty I like your positivity but you should probably update the title not only to 5k+ donation but as well to 5k+ likely stolen.
03-07-2013 , 03:07 PM
That's a shame.

Any idea when you're going to post details? I'm on hotel computer.

Yeah we have his real name and some Facebook profiles of family members.
03-07-2013 , 05:41 PM
Geez, the guy and the constant circle-jerk around him always tilted me as a mere observer of this place and he seemed FOS most of the time with talk of having made enough to retire and set his daughter up for life etc but this is just disgusting. Even worse given LO's most recent post indicates this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Feel sorry for the guys who put time, effort and $ into raising money for a good cause to be taken advantage of like this.
03-07-2013 , 06:09 PM
I really wanted his real name to be Dean Bogan
