n00b here looking to play live poker for the first time. Is THR a good place for my first experience, or should I goto TBD?

I'm guessing I should probably stick to the 1/2? I've never even been inside of a casino before (i know, i know ). What kind of cash should I bring with me?

Hard Rock will be fun - bring whatever you plan on risking. The buyin at 1-2 is capped at $100 so it plays pretty shallow and is a great game to start off in. Just play tight ABC poker and you'll do fine. Ask one of the workers for specifics if you're confused about anything and they are usually pretty helpful.

Since you're new to live poker, TBD might be the better bet for you. We regulars forget it now, but casinos like the Hard Rock can be really intimidating places for the first few visits. At TBD, you're likely to play with more regulars, so you'll feel comfortable faster. Plus, management/staff will likely be more friendly explaining things to you.

I agree with the post above. Bring a few buy-ins/whatever you're comfortable losing. Even if you lose it on bad beats, go home and think about it. TBD has a $1-1 (I think, not positive) to consider as well.

I would think that once you've visited TBD a few times, take a trip to Hard Rock to compare and see what suits you best.

$10 in pot to qualify and holdem kickers play if they beat the board or tie(I believe), omaha you have to have pair in hand, and stud no community card can play.
But this is what it will likely be:

There are 3 different time periods for quad hand bonuses:

Low rider: Mondays 2pm to midnight, The way I read it, one of each quad will be awarded only for each game(stud, hold em, omaha) based on the following payout schedule.
4 aces-$100
4 kings-$100
4 queens-$200
4 jacks-$250
4 tens-$250
4 nines-$250
4 eights-$300
4 sevens-$300
4 sixes-$400
4 fives-$400
4 fours-$400
4 threes-$500
4 dueces-$750

2nd is early bird, daily 8am-1pm The 1st 10 people to hit any quads even repeats get paid according to the following schedule(I am assuming that its the 1st 10 in hold em then seperate for stud and omaha but the rules don't clearly state this. Also they don't state if repeats count, this is just a guess) rules are very tiny print so maybe I missed it.

The 1st 4 people to hit get $599 for any quads(I believe), 2nd is $500, 3rd is $400 and
4th thru 10th is $250.

3rd is night owl, nightly midnight-5am.
The 1st seven 4 of a kinds get $250, eighth is $400, ninth is $500 and tenth is $750.
again I am assuming its 10 payouts for each, stud, omaha and hold em.

I'll play some 1/3 every now and then if the BR is a little low. Mostly 2/5 though.

Mostly 2-5. I play 1-2 when I don't feel like having the swings and just want some stress free relaxing poker. I actually never pay 1-3 for some reason.

Experienced the strangest blinds posting situation yesterday at HR. The player UTG +1 changed seats to the cutoff position. Next hand, he was told he didn't have to post until the following hand. On the following hand, when he would have been the big blind in his old seat, he posted the big blind as if he was still in his old seat (which was still empty), and no one else posted a big blind. Action started to left of the small blind. On the hand after that, when he would have been the small blind in his old seat, he posted the small blind and the player to the left of the button posted the big blind. Next hand, the button didn't move and the blinds were posted as normal. Very weird.

Note: Same situation with a player moving from UTG +1 to cutoff later at a different table with a different dealer, and the player who moved never had to post until the normal blinds came around.

First one is almost correct. The player that moved should have posted in the cutoff with an option when it is his turn. Small blind posts like normal, player to the left of the now empty seat posts BB.

But just another example of how no two dealers at HR are alike in their "decisions"

The bottom line is that half the dealers at HR do not know the correct posting procedure for moving out of the blind or do choose not to make anyone post unless they don't like them.

There is a decent % of dealers there that think you only need to post(when moving 3 or more spots away from the blinds) if you are moving directly out of the bb.
In reality that has nothing to do with it, its only based on how many positions you gain whether you post or not.

That being said, I will say that 80% of all the dealers there never make anyone post when moving away from the blinds, unless they don't like that person.

Along those lines, I've also heard dealers tell people that you get one "free" move without posting blinds; after that, you have to post the blinds.

A few nights ago some guy showed me his hand after I folded to his bet on the river and then mucked his cards - the dealer immediately turned his cards over and showed the whole table even though no one had asked to see them. The dealer told us that if you show one person the dealer shows all - that's not the rule is it? I understand if you show one person then anyone can ask to see the cards but the dealer was adamant that he was correct and I've never heard of such a thing.

Actually, it is not wrong for a cardroom to enforce the SOSA rule this way. Personally, I think it is the right thing to do and appreciate when a dealer enforces the rule in this manner. I always ask to see a hand which a player shows to another player at the table. It is my right to see it as well, and an unfair advantage to the other player who gets to see it if I don't.

Here is the rule from RROP:

Quote:
6. Show one, show all. Players are entitled to receive equal access to information about the contents of another player’s hand. After a deal, if cards are shown to another player, every player at the table has a right to see those cards. During a deal, cards that were shown to an active player who might have a further wagering decision on that betting round must immediately be shown to all the other players. If the player who saw the cards is not involved in the deal, or cannot use the information in wagering, the information should be withheld until the betting is over, so it does not affect the normal outcome of the deal. Cards shown to a person who has no more wagering decisions on that betting round, but might use the information on a later betting round, should be shown to the other players at the conclusion of that betting round. If only a portion of the hand has been shown, there is no requirement to show any of the unseen cards. The shown cards are treated as given in the preceding part of this rule.

It is wrong if only one dealer in the room is enforcing the rule in such a manner. The problem, as pointed out in this thread, is that there is no consistency at all when it comes to enforcing the rules.
