I'd never worn a hoodie, or a hat indoors, until I started playing poker at the THR. Especially in the old room, it would always be so cold that I had to get a hat and while it helped, my hands and feet would still be icy. I remember one time when it was so cold up front (it was early in the morning and the place was pretty empty) that I put my hood up over my hat.

A supervisor came over and said security said I needed to put my hood down. I told her I'd take my hood down when they turn the heat up. She understood, and I got to keep my hood up.

House rule is when its your turn and you put money in the pot, IT STAYS.
So when someone is not paying attention and doesn't see the raise or hear the dealer say raise and puts in the call, That stays, because that is the house rule. 99% of the dealers let them take back the money in that spot.
Don't have a rule if your not going to enforce it!

As far as PLO, I that is brand new to the dealers and I don't even thing that had much training if anything about dealing it, so its normal they most probably stumble a bit dealing it until they get more comforatable.

As far as fights and security, I have only seen 1 fight in the last 3 years and a few that may have become fights. So its not very common. But as soon as the supervisor gets on radio and calls security that will be there in force in 2 min. for sure.
you can't blame the dealers entirely, grant it there are quite a few that should not be dealing anywhere, but i blame management or the lack of management. I have been going to the Hard Rock for a lot of years and I have seen only a couple of supervisors that seemed to know thier job, but the hard rcok always manages to get rid of those. from what i have gathered, the dealers are no longer trained and were never trained for PLO. All you have to do is pass an audition and it doesn't matter if you have previous experience. I guess they just turn them loose without any training or guidelines. Hell if they aren't going to train supervisors or managers what makes you think that they are going to train the dealers? I feel sorry for them because I have seen many times where management has not backed up the dealer when they tried to enforce the rules, so why bother is probably their mentality. I've seen players yell and cuss out dealers for no reason and not get kicked out by two different supervisors that were called to the table, and I have seen players get kicked out for absoultely no reason, and I have seen more than one supervisor scream and yell at players because they were having a bad day. Unfortunately it seems we are at the mercy of whatever supervisor is on and their mood for the moment. I doubt things will change until real competition comes along.

You mad?

But seriously, there are only a few exceptional dealers IMO and the rest are meh. I like the african american man, kinda chubby and always says hello when he joins the table and always says "thank you kindly" or something along those lines when he receives tips. It seems like he really enjoys his job and I like tipping the guy. On the other hand, I think I'm going to start stiffing other dealers more often. It's an easy job and I'm not just going to fling money at you for the hell of it.

How have the games been here recently? Does the action slow down in the winter months? I mainly play 1/2 and 2/5 and there almost no action in the winter months at my hometown casino so I may be looking for a place to play through the winter. Thanks

I won't be playing for about 2 weeks, so will be one less person on the PLO list. I'll be in Daytona where plo8 runs every day :P

There is already some early snowbirds down because of the early snowstorm up North. It will slowly get busier until after Thanksgiving when it will be the busiest time of year for several months.

My friend and I are coming to Hard Rock this weekend, we were wondering:

Do they ever get anything higher than 2/4 LHE?

What stakes run for PLO and Omaha/8?

How far is the walk from the poker room to the hotel rooms? My friends foot is hurt badly and he needs a wheel chair to get around.

Nothing higher than 2/4 LHE

1/2PLO is the game that goes most often when it goes, once or twice a week.

Omaha/8 is 3/6 limit and is daily.

Its a decent walk but at normal pace about 2 min. to the elevators + however far down the hall you had to walk.
I am pretty sure they provide you with wheel chairs(maybe a deposit).

Let me know how it is over there, I've always been curious.

Also, I wanted to voice my support for the 1/2-1/3 merger and the addition of a 1/1 game. Ask the folks in Hollywood, it's working there for everyone.

Hey, Jack, when are the Apple giftcards supposed to come in? We've been waiting for weeks now and no one seems to have a clue.

There are no 1-1's running right now at hollywood but boy is it nice when everyone has to buy in $100 min at 1-2. What I don't get is I saw a guy get felted to $12 an he was able to chip up to only $40. I will investigate but I hope it's more than just the initial buy in that's mandated at $100....

Yes, $1-2 $100-200 buy in for the victory! I support this.

Some places allow for a short buy, also known as buying in short. I've seen it in a few places but I never understood why if you have a minimum and maximum would you allow somebody to buy in short. actually I just recalled derby lane used to allow this however I think they stopped it about a year or so ago.

Hard Rock dealers are the worst so unfriendly and do not even say thank you unless you tip $2 or more which I never do unless its a huge pot.

Word is that they are going to have a really big promo for december that will keep people from wanting to go to derby during the WPT at derby.
I have no idea what it is.

My little trick is that I say thank you as I tip them. If they don't respond (for whatever reason), then I knock them down my tip list.

Even if they have a great huge promotion, Derby's still going to draw big numbers for the WPT. There are enough big tournament players in the area that will flock there. Look at the Silk's Halloween 250, for the entire weekend this thread was dead.

I agree, Derby is going to be packed for WPT as they seem to have a better schedule. Did not play in the Silks Halloween tourney but I heard it was full of THR regs and THR was completely dead for a Saturday. Why doesn't THR run a consistent set of promos similar to HHR? It would seem to make good business sense to reward regular players while trying to keep the attention of the casual players focused on THR. Jack would you give us your thoughts on this?

To run the same promos as HHR they would have to take $2 Jackpot drop instead of $1.
Do you really want that? THR is one of the few places in Florida that only drops $1 Jackpot, lets keep it that way.

You make a great point.... But economically think sacrificing the extra dollar might make play better. Think of it this way, HHR.has high hands, tourney tickets and money for hours played. This gets the money flowing in the room. Gets people in, playing more, donking more money off. Once you learn who are the jackpot chasers, adapt and pounce. More times then not they will give you money.
