Guidelines for using the betting line 12/06

Not once did I "simply making them up for a more interesting debate". I presented a question and stated that not one floor person could provide me with this answer. If these are the rules then that's that. That was my only question and I never once tried to say that I knew the rule. Hence the post

You could send me a PM anytime as well, but I am more likely to want to play fewer draw games and more stud games. Last night we played HOSEB.

I was at The Borgata over the weekend.
I visited The Trop, The Taj, and then The Borgata.

The Borgata is by far the best, and has the most games going on.
The crowd feels a bit more cultured and high class, maybe because of the location, away from most other hotel/casinos.
The chairs are the most comfortable, by far (means a lot to me if I'm going to sit in one for 8 hours).
There is a bathroom in the poker room.
I believe that parking was only $5 and parking at the other two was $10. Which is strange.
At all 3 rooms, there is a general deterioration of level of play as the wee hours approach. If you start your game at lunch time, the players will mostly be quite good. If you are playing at 2 am, the players will be horrendous. Sometimes in the morning there will be the all-nighters who have no idea what they are doing any more.
The Borgata is always hopping, with many games and many full tables.

I finished the session up just under $300, after playing for about 12 hours (with short breaks).
I finished up just over $100 after 3 days, and about 36 hours of playing. I won't be quitting my job any times soon.

Jason--

I think you might be talking about the hand I played in 3 weeks ago or so late one friday night at 5/10. I raised the button, got reraised by a regular. I went to 4bet, had the chips in my hand and as I was starting to put them forward(they were close to my cards, and nowhere near the line) I realized that I wanted to raise him x, but only had x in my hand(I had forgotten the amount to call) so I added it and he essentially called the floor person over and told him what the ruling should be and that it was a string bet. The floor agreed because he was screaming loudly and seemed to know the rule, but upon looking at the rule book, they were both wrong.

I took, and still take major issue with regulars essentially using these rules as an angleshoot and calling them when they need them. The rule that he called on me happens on every hand. Someone cuts out chips in front of their cards. Someone takes a whole stack in their hand in front of the line and cuts out only part of it. Someone raises to 35 and the BB throws in 2 greens before pulling back his 10 (that's a legal raise). This happens all the time and noone says anything.

The rules are there to prevent angleshooting and I take issue when the regulars use the rules to their advantage. The floor then acts like they are upholding the fairness of the game by siding with them, when all they are doing is allowing certain regulars to continually scumbag people when it is in their interest.

Stan - welcome back. How many runners do you get for event #11 types? I'm thinking of taking the day off if there are generally enough players.

Also - how are comps calculated for tourny buy-ins? Thank you and I will see you friday.

JasonP530 this is similar to the situation that I was in but a little different. I actually wasn't there. But I would be interested to hear Stan's official ruling:

Stan: What constitutes a bet at the Borgata? Forward motion or crossing the betting line?

re: What constitutes a bet

I asked a shift manager and got the reply I posted, see reply #19916 (06-05-2012, 06:59 PM,) ...researching the correct answers is one percent inspiration, ninety-nine percent perspiration...I'll wear my shades indoors and hope the A/C is going full blast and pray the cocktail waitresses are stopping at my table to take orders for refreshing drinks!!

poker etiquette:

6. A raise should be announced. (William Strunk, Jr., could not have composed a cleaner, shorter, or more accurate sentence.) If you want to raise, say 'raise' in a loud voice so the dealer can hear you, before you touch your chips!

So, basically, do not be surprised if one ruling is that the betting line controls the action, and another ruling says that forward motion is enforced.

Say the word "raise." Completely eliminates all angle shooting and doubt, especially if followed up with the exact amount.

If you did make a strong forward motion with calling chips, and then tried to go back for raising chips, regardless of where you are in relation to the betting line, you are going to get called for string betting some % of the time.

You can cry and moan all you want, but at the end of the day it boils down to: Why leave it up to the dealers and floor, whom you have zero control over, to be consistent when the issue is easily avoided?

Was wondering how long the event on 6/10 will last the nl Holden 400$ buy in. It says 14 levels 10minute break after every 3 first 10 levels are 30 min and next 4 are 40 min that goes 11am-720pm is that right or will it go longer?

Stan: Maybe a naive question but Why aren't ALL 49 events reported to ratings sites like Hendon Mob, CardPlayer, et al? Why only the main events? Lots of Borgata's top players play in the side events and, in fact, choose them over certain main events. In any given non-main event, I've seen many professionals and Borgata regulars who might benefit from the reporting of the non-main event results. btw: this applies to Blog coverage or non-coverage/reporting as well.

Tuesday night there is an ALL IN or FOLD tournament. Does anyone know the structure.
I have read some places start with one chip. The thought of big blind firsthand and looking down at 72 off suite for $200 does not thrill me. Any info will be appreciated, sounds like an interesting tournament.
