Yea I just got something in the mail today. Apparently we'll be getting some free parking vouchers. Class action suit claiming the parking vouchers were supposed to be unlimited use/daily but were only good once per day. Something about the print being too small for someone to read

I think we're getting $20 slot dollars sometime in the future. I read some of the details, and you pretty much nailed it. $175k for lawyers. $2500 to the lead plaintiff who brought this to court. $20 slot dollars for everyone else. What a waste of time.

If you don't run into any unusual situations†, chances are good that you're not going to see anything terrible. The vast majority of hands will go off without a hitch. I've been there hundreds of hours over the last few years, and never seen any of the completely FUBAR sorts of things that get chewed over in LCP. Even just garden-variety floor calls aren't frequent. I think I've only once seen a floor get something really wrong, and it was an actual floor on a gimme question (did a shove reopen the action to the original raiser) and soon corrected by another. (†Yes, I'll admit that practically anything in a non-hold'em game is too likely to qualify as unusual.)

I wouldn't say everything is wonderful and perfect, but it's also not so bad that I'm motivated to check out an alternative (Parx).
I may have been guilty of being extremely critical lately of the room. I too have played 100s of hours per year here. Enough to get a black card. I obviously feel slighted behind the "string raise" miscall (look back in thread if need be).

This seems an accurate and fair description as of lately. For me Borgata is an hr and half away. Parx is 45 minutes. So the attraction just isn't there to drive twice as long+ tolls. Plus my wife is going for her Master's now. She used to play 10/20HE. She doesn't now. Why come?

I do feel more nostalgic about the room than anything else. Which is why I hope it improves to it's glory days. I'm not a tournament player so that attraction is nil to me. If I was this place would be the ****.
Who knows man? Am I critical? Sure. Am I over critical? Depends on the day. Lol If this was the closest room I'd play there but it's not. So it is what it it is. There's alot of room for improvement on various levels. We'll see what happens. I'll surely visit from time to time, but not enough to get Sun-Fri offers and black label again.

First good luck to your wife with her Master's, hope she does well.

Back to the state of the BORGATA poker room, yes it is not as good as it was, but many factors are in play. The biggest one is all the out of state rooms that have opened the past few years. The biggest and still 2nd best on the East coast, the PARX. Also the 2nd biggest in size. They sucked off a lot of Borgata's best dealers, as well as a ton of players who live in and closer to PA, than to the Borgata. I for one live in NJ and 45 min from PARX and 90 min from Borgata. This probably took 25% of the players easy! And as more places opened up more players go less often to the Borgata.

MGM is going to have to offer more to the poker players, free rooms, free food, maybe some finger foods for tournament and or high limit players. Or some other insensitive. That is if the NJCCC will let them. It's ridiculous that it took this long to finally get tournament chops approved. Only other thing that can improve turnout is approval for sports betting. Sit at any table and what is 90% of the table talk? Maybe some poker classes and etiquette can be given to some new players. Especially the poker etiquette!!!

I don't think it will be just one thing or another to fix turnout. It will have to be a few things. When that happens, the dealers and staff will get better again. Either they will learn or be replaced.

Worthless for those with a black card, like me, as we already had free parking. Oh well....a lot of noise for so little

No black card here, but I get once a day. Once a month seems pretty easy to get: a friend who goes with me sometimes and plays maybe 20 hours/year of 2-4LHE gets that.

just back from Fri-Mon weekend, love the poker room as always; but.....Saturday night was packed and I was in the $400 until pretty late before busting and then waiting to get back in 20/40 game (in the back area).... jumped into 1/2. Shocking PA player announcements Jim 2/5, Jim 2/5..Jim, where are you, seat ready for Jim at 2/5. 5 second pause Jim 2/5, Jim 2/5..Jim, where are you, seat ready for Jim at 2/5. Jim 2/5. Steve 1/2, Steve 1/2, 1/2 Steve, open seat for Steve 1/2, Jim, 2/5 ready. Steve 1/2...... loud, and over and over again for hours. I have never seen or heard this at the Borg. So Gross...when I was very deep in the MTT event, the announcements for players seats was way overboard......continuous and loud.... was like an auction at a cheap flea market. I usually sit in the back, there is now speakers back there. *** Racked up and left

You left out the screams of "LOCK IT UP!"

I often wish I'd brought my earbuds, not so I can listen to music but just to dampen the din a bit. The PA is almost always too loud, and especially during busy times it's too much.

At least in the high limit room it's just the calls from the high desk. (In the immediate area, at least...you can still hear from outside, of course.) It's worse up front where you hear both, plus the tournament announcements. It doesn't make sense that there isn't a separate PA for the tournament area. What do I need with the tournament-starting spiel when I'm half the room away in a cash game? They seem to be getting worse about just talking over each other, too. If there can't be more discrete sections of the PA, there should at least be fewer people with microphones.

Considering heading down to the WPT
Questions:
1. Stay at the Borgata or somewhere else?
2. If at Borgata, is there a discounted rate if playing int he WPT?
3. Parking (I will be diriving down)
4. Are the satellites typical of most venues, softer, tougher, good value?

For comparison purposes, is the play better or worse than:
Foxwoods
Mohegan
Turning Stone
Vegas during the WSOP
Parx

Any games to specifically avoid (regfests or collusion issues). I play many non HE games if possible so especially curious about those.

Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know roughly how many people and how long the 'survivor' tournaments run? You know, the events listed as 'secondary' events when there is a Borgata poker open series. Thanks

If you are down there for the WPT I highly recommend staying at the B. Here's my reason:

1. Stay at the Borgata. I went down there to play in event1 2Mil Guarantee. I bag 380k in day 1 but we didn't bag until 3 AM. I was hungry, exhaust, tire & sleepy have to get into my car and drive back to the other side of town where my hotel was even know the street was empty i was more worry about causing an accident for hitting the highway rails.

2. The discounted rate may not be special but if you get a decent stack in day 1A or 1B you can spend the next couple days grinding cash game to earn enough comp to use toward paying your room bills before you play day2.

3. Parking will be free for patron of the hotel.

4. I didn't play any of the satellite so I don't know.

5. It's a mad house during the series. Having room upstairs mean not having to wait in line during bathroom breaks the elevator are pretty fast. You also get to unwind/mediate during long breaks. I normally come down with foods that i store in my rooms for breaks since the cafe/lunchroom will be packs.

6. Cash game quality are incredible during tournament series 1/2 and 2/5 are soft but I only play NL dabble in PLO so I don't know anything about mix game.

Hope this help

I have only played at the Borgata during the first year they were open. Now that I am able to play poker again, I am going to play during the Open.

Since during most of my visit, I will be with a single, male partner I need a two bedroom suite. The suites at Borgata are very expensive, so I would rather just book two separate rooms at a much more discounted price elsewhere.

I found a decently reviewed Quality Inn where the rooms are cheap, but I'm worried about the general area at those costs. Does anyone know if this is simply a terrible choice and that I should be closer to Borgata? I will gladly pay more if the neighborhood where QI is located is terrible.

Thanks so much.

Are two regular rooms still too expensive at Borgata? If you're playing in a tournament, there is a reduced rate.

If still too steep and playing cash, then look at Absecon, NJ. There are a few hotels along that stretch of highway that is about 10 minutes away from the Borg. I haven't been in a while, but Comfort Inn North was the cleanest / safest for me.

I'm not sure I'll play in any of the tourneys.

I'll check out Absecon. Your silence on the Quality Inn is probably telling

Thanks so much. I'm going to start researching right now!
