Hi Bonds, I actually do not think the golf forum needs saving. My location is just a play on this post:

Comical. He's come to save the golf forum! And on top of that, he's going to do the impossible and go from a chop to scratch in 6 weeks. That last sentence makes me cringe. I mean, if somebody actually believes they could do that...wow

2. I did not lose a prop bet to eman, I think an above poster was indicating we should have one as a joke because we both grossly over estimate our talent.

I currently play these. I have had them for around 10 years.

For a couple years in between I played Titleist PM31's but went back the Ping's. The Titleist PM31's are a progressive blade but they are not forged.

Now, I'm looking at getting these:

with a combination some of these.

I also hit these, but I didn't like them as much as the Mizuno's

I'm a low single digit handicapper looking for a change. Having a club that looks good over the ball is very important and the Mizuno's look awesome. I'm thinking of going 3-5 with the MP 52's and then 6-PW with the 68's. Mizuno is great and they allow you to do this with no extra charge. Basically, you buy each club individually so in theory I could have an iron from every one of their sets. I like this because I can get a little more forgiveness in the long irons (cavity back forged) while still having the blades in the shorter irons. Has anyone ever done this before or any thoughts about it in general? I've heard people say that there is no need to play a forged club but the way they look/feel makes it pretty hard to resist the urge the order these tomorrow.

edit: It might sound contradictory to go back to a combo set but the reason I didn't keep playing the Titleist's is because the i didn't like the weighting of them.

sounds like a solid plan, i've had the mp32's for 3ish years and i'm enamored w/ them. i know several people that take the same approach that you discuss and it works for them with two different sets of irons and i've seen different pros employ the same strategy as well so it's certainly a plausible route to take. did you try hitting the 3i-5i in the mp68s or are you just looking for more forgiveness with those clubs in general?

I too play the i3's, my suggestion is this, wait until the S56's come out later this month. I was with the Ping rep last week and got to see some of the new stuff coming out. Assuming they hit half as good as they look, I will be putting them in my bad as soon as possible.

My 3,4,5i are 30's while the 6-PW are 33's. I love me some Mizuno irons.

Of course when I read Pelz's short game bible for the first time, I was about to move and get back to school and I never got around to fixing my wedge system, but I took the first step...taking the 3 iron out and bending the 4iron two degrees strong to fill the gap a bit. Of course, since I never got the wedges, I went to bend the 4iron back and it twisted or bent funny or something because it just doesn't looks right. So I have the MP-30 5iron, and I have the 3 and 4 irons from this set in their place:

I locked the other thread at the suggestion that a new thread every month may drive more participation as evidently some people are put off by a big monster thread and thus avoid it. If people prefer just to keep the old one going that's fine, but it doesn't make much sense to have two concurrent LC-type threads.

So the hurricane known as ALReturnsLOL comes in and tells everyone he is going to do in six weeks what they haven't been able to in years, then tells us we have no community, suggests a new way to run the forum and we do? Also in the process he gets the most visited thread on the site locked? How would having a monthly thread be easier to search than one huge one? A new thread every month would actually put me off more than a monster thread...is a big thread scary to people?

I understand he has me outposted 15-1, but, have you seen our swings?

He is not alone in his complaint. While I don't understand it personally, there are a lot of posters who prefer a new LC thread every month, and nearly every forum bears this out. Some say they avoid NBA discussion in SE because of the thread's size, for example.

This isn't anything to get worked up about. If the consensus is to return to the single thread then it will be so. I am surprised people actually care or I would have asked first.

Don't get me wrong, I don't care at all. My point was more to who the hell is this guy coming in and telling the "regulars" what we're doing wrong. Again, I realize he has a TON of posts on 2+2 and I am a noob so I don't know protocol at all in this situation.

ok, i have a question. i play 9 holes 2 or 3 times a week. I play 18 whenever possible which is about twice a month.

i'd say the last 4 years i've averaged 50+ rounds of 9 holes and 15 rounds of 18.

i am an "ok" golfer but i have no idea what my handicap is and have little interest in finding out.

is this unusual?

I don't think so. A handicap is useful for some things, such as measuring how your game is and providing a basis to play a (relatively) fair match against golfers of different abilities. If you don't have any desire to compete and are just happy to play then it stands to reason that you wouldn't care about having a handicap.

I've certainly played with guys who don't care.

Yeah, I thought as much. My handicap in the league is a 5 but that is just based on my average score for that course during the season.

The good news is that 3 or 4 years ago my average score in the same league was about 47 or 48. Now it's 41. Yay me.

I prefer the one thread accumulating stuff rather than monthly threads by far. It's an extended conversation.

Hey guys, I just started golfing earlier this year and my first set of clubs was some used Wilson 1200 irons.

I've been looking for some better used irons and have asked the seller about these Titleist DCI Oversize Irons. He said he would take $100.

His response to my inquiry was "I will take $100 for the irons.
They are well used with some face wear etc. but still a really solid, forgiving set. The oversized grips are also wearing a bit on some of the clubs but still in good playing condition."

I've been reading some reviews on these clubs, I think they are the oversize blacks but he never mentions the word black in his add.

Let me know what you guys think.

To me the irritant is the fact a newbie just waltzes in here and dictates terms because in his ignorant wisdom thinks he can save us all.

Thanks guys. It's my 3rd career ace (~12 years), but it had been 8 years or so and I had been telling people I was due. I have been working pretty hard on my game, so seeing some good scores (and obv knocking one in, even with all the luck involved) is pretty rewarding.
