Well I'm 41 and have dropped from a 12.9 to 10.7 in last three months so 2013 Q school should be no problem.

I actually like that list a lot, assuming we're talking about a scramble and not a best ball. I think I might swap out Phil for someone else, though. He's great around the greens but with 3 PGA Tour pros hitting approach shots I don't think we're going to miss a ton of greens. Maybe swap him out for another big hitter, a Dustin Johnson type, or maybe Rory McIlroy (not quite as big a hitter, but obviously a great all-around player). I also like the Stricker pick a lot, I think he's so good from 50-150ish, and we're going to have a lot of short approach shots with these guys bombing it off the tee.

If you did get to play in this foursome, what would you put the o/u at for number of your shots used? I'm thinking 1.5 for me.
I was thinking about this too before I even saw your post. I actually think it would be higher assuming you'll be putting first all the time. On a longer putt, your job is obviously just to get it past the hole so that the other guys see the break, but these guys are going to hit enough approach shots to within five feet that you'll get a chance to make some putts. So with that in mind I think the o/u would be more like 4.5-6.5, depending mostly on how hot you run with the putter and how many tap-ins you have.

If we don't count putts, I'd be lucky to manage 1 in the whole round. Once in a blue moon I can knock a wedge inside five feet. And maybe I could knock a chip or two close (if we even have any of those).

Sorry about the bball vs scramble error...

But as people said when it comes down to o/u on personal strokes I think it really comes down to putts... I would suspect most of our putts are going to be within 10ft, maybe on the tougher par 3s and par 5 eagle putts we could see some tough long ones and like mentioned we are going first to make sure their lines are correct... 3 guys of that mulling over a putt I am sure they put us on the right line 100% of the time it just comes down to speed.

I could see some other random irons being used also, knowing we have those 3 guys behind us we can just go for it every hole as opposed to playing it safe like many of us do... I doubt we would be using the same irons though..

I honestly picked Mickelson because Id like to play a round with him, I had D Johnson and McIlroy as my other options... hitting it long here would be the best option.

Yeah, you guys are right about the putts if we are always going first. I have never played a scramble though...why would we always be putting first? Worst player always tends to go first?

I've never played one either, but there was at least one thread on here where it was said that you should always go in order from your worst player to your best player, presumably because the better players can handle the pressure. And on the green, if your worst player putts it four feet past it's no big deal.

Usually there is a condition in a scramble where the team must use at least 1 tee shot from each player, sometimes more.

This way when the hack luckboxes a close approach on a par 3 or hits it mid fairway on a short par 4 you can debate getting that over with.

I don't know if they require the same for putts tho. Putting first is obvious because the better players will have more info after 3 identical putts.

That isn't always true with pros. I've seen pros on Tour completely ignore and not watch other pros putting on the same exact line from just a few inches further. The pro will move his ball mark out of the way, then deliberately look away while the other pro is putting. I don't get it.

I ****ed up my back/shoulder somehow in my last round and probably won't be swinging a club for a while. Will use this time to work on putting.

Just the standard Kirkland brand. They don't have them on their website but they have the same feel as the expensive titleist glove that doesn't have a ball marker

Those costco gloves are pretty solid. They last a good while and they're dirt cheap. I always snag 3packs of em each time I go there. Its not the best feeling glove ever, but for the price they'll do just fine.

Anyone here a member at a course? Not a private one that costs thousands upon thousands of dollars, but just a local reg course. I have been looking around and all yearly passes are listed as costing 2k-ish for "The 2011 Season". Does the price ever get discounted as the season progresses?

It seems pretty ridiculous if they would continue to charge the same price all year, yet have all memberships last until the end of the calendar year. I can't imagine there would be anyone purchasing memberships anymore if this is the case.

Any suggestions for a new golfer looking to add wedges to the bag?. I heard something about having 4 or 6 degrees difference in your wedges etc but I have no clue really. I've also heard Cleveland's are the stones but I'd like to hear other opinions/advice before buying anything.

Are you from somewhere with a year-round season? Maybe you get 12 months from when you buy your membership, not just till the end of 2011. (Though I admit the fact that they say "2011 season" makes this less likely.) I joined a public course a few months ago and that's how the memberships there work. But it may be different since golf is year-round here.

A couple courses around here don't officially discount as the season progresses but will offer deals like "the rest of this season free if you prepay for next season" starting around Labor Day.

If a course is hurting financially they might cut you a deal but I have to admit I've never asked.

Hit one of the funniest shots of my life today... teeing off I hit what would have been a low stinger that would have run well but instead I hammer one of these...

it literally comes out of the ground and goes forward 10-15yrds while my ball ricochets off and goes backwards...

I took a mulligan of course

my grandfather (who is terrible at golf) once hammered one off the tee marker came back at him, then hammered a similiar line drive that slammed into the pin and dropped in for a birdie on a par 3. It's awesome!

Aside from your putting and elbow troubles, how did you like Barton Creek? I saw that you played it on oob and was wanting to ask about it. Would love to play it someday if I ever find $200 on the ground.

The quality of your good shots is so much better though. If you aren't a hacker, I think you might be suprised what you can do with a set of blades or even MCs.

I was a member when I was younger. Some private or semi-private courses do prorate...

but I can't commit to playing one course that much. The only cother ourse I've ever considered getting a (prorated partial-season) membership at is The Bull. The other Kohler courses charge too much.

30-day memberships seem to be getting more popular as well.

I'll offer some advice but I need more information. What is your skill level, how much do you play or practice, and what kind of irons do you play? This kind of important because there is a LOT of variance in the loft of pitching wedges these days (like a club to a club and a half worth) and it will change what I recommend.
