I never understood the science behind a light grip pressure. I choke the **** out of my driver. The rest of my clubs, including short game, are still pretty firm. If I ease up at all I lose all my control.

I've been hitting it better since I started gripping it WAY harder a few weeks ago. Like pretty much as hard as I can with still being able to hinge my wrists properly.

I have a lesson with a new instructor tonight. He has learned from some of the best including Foley and I have some friends that take lessons from him and they tell me he's the ****. I'm really working hard at improving my swing this year and I believe I have gotten all I can out of my current instructor. One of the biggest issues I have my instructor now is that he can really fix my swing when I see him, but he doesn't send me away with any drills to work on. So his lessons go right through me like a sieve.

He's got a few tidbits online and seems like a pretty knowledgeable guy.

Christ, It is about 500 degrees outside. I need to get out and practice, but would risk melting. Guess I'll just wait until about 6 with the hopes that I'll get a little relief.

It was absolutely sweltering up here in Toronto yesterday too.. one of the hottest days I have ever felt. I was going to suck it up and go to the range anyway, when a freak thunderstorm ran a train on my city.

Yeah it's been brutal these past two days. It's supposed to thunderstorm here later, hopefully we don't get owned like that.

~80 degrees Fahrenheit? lol must be nice

Golfed today and it's 95F w/ 42% humidity so it feels like 100F. I thought it wasn't bad at all though with the cloud coverage giving some shade.

Of course down here I can golf in December and January when the afternoon temperatures are typically mid-40s F. Definitely not complaining though. If I wasn't able to play today I'd have something to complain about.

You actually lose distance by gripping it so hard.

God I hate when people won't play because it's hot. You're driving around in a cart getting out occasionaly to hit a ball- you'll be ok.

It felt more like 100F here to be honest. No cloud cover either. :P
It was about 33C (~92F) with 55% humidity I thought.

I opted for the pool instead of golf.

How? If you still have the proper hinging and lag, wouldn't everything be exactly the same?

This seems like as good as place as any to rant about my golf game...

1. I hit a tree root on a full swing and thought I had broken my wrist. Turns out to be sprained. It still hurts like a mother...
2. I have gone from a 0 to a 9 handicap in 4+ years. I can NOT hit a golf ball straight to save my life. When I stand on the tee, I am choked down at least 2 inches on the driver and I just pray to god that it goes somewhere close to the fairway.
3. Michael Collins brings way too much pep to his on course announcing. I sometimes have a hard time figuring out what he said. Please dial it back a little so I can understand you and it will be perfect.
4. If Tiger gets healthy, he will win again. He is too good not to win again. People who call into talk radio shows saying he will never win again are driving me nuts.
5. I never thought Michelle Wie was attractive until I turned on women's golf a few weeks ago. I stand corrected.

Wow, now I feel better.

Went to see my instructor today due to driver issues and OF COURSE I step up and stroke ball after ball as good as I have all year... but of course he pointed out something that will cause me a lack of consistency...

I have had a problem in the past with "alligator arms" where I was getting no where near full extension on my swing which was ****ing up my swing plane and causing me loss of distance so I was purposely thinking about it way too much and it was causing me to push out when on my backswing which would force me to bring it from outside in causing more of a slice and an inconsistent plane.

He gave me a simple drill where I put the butt of the shaft up against my belly button and grip it well down the shaft and then do a normal takeway but only about a foot or so back and forth while keeping my arms extended yet the club still flush against my stomach so I could get used to keeping it on a consistent plane and not push out because if I did push out I would pull the club away from my body, then I would take a full swing that way to work on muscle memory then grip it normal line up and think of nothing swing away.. I probably hit some of the nicest, purest drives after doing this... I also noticed I tend to follow the club back which would cause head movement and sway occasionally throwing my swing off.

This also helped my irons as I hit some 5i off the ground to a flag 213 away, and was even flying my 7i to a pin 165 away... nothing beats hitting real golf shots more and more.

Its good to actually know what I am doing wrong nowadays and could feel what was wrong instantly after I had a bad swing, now its all about practice practice practice

Ill have to get someone to film my swing one of these days so this forum can rip it apart.. mostly cwice and Spenda

This tilts the hell out of me, my friends act like such tough guys all the time but ask them to play golf if its above 85+sunny and bahhhhhhhhhh i sweat too much blah blah blah. Two weeks ago a friend actually refused to play because "its too wet outside" after it rained overnight. You kidding me? Then again I worked construction in summers and practically grew up in the outdoors while most of my friends were all rich kids that never held an outdoor job (or job period) or did anything outdoors so maybe I'm just more used to it or something. Still....

And there's a line, heat index > 100 is not fun and maybe dangerous

Yeah, fair enough. I'll play if it's above 90, just didn't feel like roasting on the range for two hours with a heat index of 110. It was still damn hot when I was out there, lower 90s/upper 80s and humid as ****.
