hairline fracture?

I cannot fix my driver swing. I have tamed my slice, and I hit the odd straight one, but for the most part it's a little more than a fade.

I've put in so much time on it this summer. I guess more balls are key.

More balls are not key to fixing a bad swing. Post videos of you swing here and people can help you. Hitting 1000 drivers at the range with bad form will not magically turn into good form, it will just reinforce bad form.

I basically never go to the range. I'm not very good though. Really it's just that courses around here are so cheap I might as well just play a round. I spend all my time watching swings and thinking about the mechanics, then trying to replicate patterns and common themes that I see.

Don't visit this thread much but had a question that search didn't reveal having been discussed: has anyone shipped their golf clubs via FedEx (or other shipping service) instead of flying with them?

As importantly, what do you think the average golf carry (not tour) bag + modest amount of balls/tees weighs? Packed to be as light as possible obv. I'm guessing 20-25 lbs.

Headed back to the Midwest in late September and thinking of shipping my clubs back. At 30 lbs. it costs me about $30, with the only real downside being it will take 4+ days to arrive, with no idea how much the "+" could be, but FedEx is amazing so doubt it would be more than an extra day - would send out a few days before my flight obv. That cost would be roughly the same as I'd pay to check them on the plane but I wouldn't have to deal with them in addition to all the other crap I'm lugging. Plus f the airlines, I'd rather give the same amount of money to someone else.

Thanks.

Pretty sure not; it's almost as though I jammed it badly somehow. Which doesn't make sense considering all I was doing was my regular range practice routine. Idk.

I would guess 30-35 would be more likely unless you're only taking half your set.

Tough to answer without more details. Last time I flew with my clubs this was my packing list basically. In a large Mizuno soft travel case: Ping carry bag, 14 clubs, dozen balls, one pair of shoes, rain gear, and then a few extra towels that I stuff around the clubheads to keep them from banging around too much. That was just under 50 pounds.

A golf swing with a non-baseball grip puts a lot of stress on the left thumb. You don't realize how much until you injure it.

I injured my left thumb on the course with just a normal swing last December and it still hasn't fully healed even after taking off 3-4 months and only playing every two weeks since starting up again.

Thanks for the feedback. My "scientific" method for guessing weight was comparing the weight of my bag with an imagined dumbbell from the weight room. Guess thinking it would be 20-25 was a bit optimistic, but if I pack nothing but clubs (packing the balls and shoes in my regular luggage) I may be able to get it pretty close.

I'd recommend seeking some sort of lesson if you really want to improve your swing. This way when you do go to the range, you have some solid input and ideas to draw from. Or at the very least try out some tips from youtube. Hitting balls is necessary, but you want to make sure you're actually trying to FIX what's wrong.

Yeah, I've been checking out a lot of Youtube videos, and I think I have my problems narrowed down to a few thing. The major one being the outside-in swing.

So I have last years R11 3 hybrid, tuned to 17 degrees. I hit it about 240-245 off the tee. I also have a 3 iron which I hit about 230-235 off the tee. I hit my 3 iron very straight and have a lot of confidence with it, but have basically no confidence with my hybrid (lots of mi****s and hooks). I also hit my hybrid like 5 miles in the air off the tee, which I really dislike. I have an 85g aldila rip x-flex in my hybrid, and an x100 in my 3 iron. I hit my 3 wood (14 degree R11) about 270-275 on a good swing.

Any suggestions for what hybrids I should be looking at? Looking for more penetrating flight off the tee, and about another 8-10 yards further than my 17 degree R11. I demo'd a 16.5 RBZ hybrid at my club the other day which only had a stiff shaft, and every shot was a pretty big sling draw/hook. I was also hitting it like 260 which seems excessive. No clue what a stiffer/heavier shaft would do to straighten out the ball flight.

So this "4 handicap" at my club repeats as Club Champ going 70-70-70 for the weekend.

Miraculously none of these scores are posted on his GHIN...

My club posts tournament scores for players who compete without asking. I have no idea if you can go in and delete them though, but it seems like a better choice than letting someone sandbag.

UC, those should be posted as "tournament scores" in GHIN. See section 10-3 of the handicap manual. Sounds like his index should be adjusted down based on the procedures listed there. That's assuming the rating for the course isn't a high 60's number.

Yeah unfortunately our club is all about self-posting.

I looked through his scores and it is lol. Every "away" round is in the high 70s - low 80s.

I apologize for bitching about handicap all the time on the forums though because I know I do it A LOT.

That said, a 4 hcp shooting 70 is 1 in 385ish. Over 3 days in a row, those are some amazing odds.

A group of us are likely boycotting the member-member as a result.

Has anyone ever said anything to him about it?

Is he someone who thinks he's smarter than everyone else and that no one sees through it or does the joy of "winning" trump everything else?

Call Ship, have him come play as a 4 and play for big steaks.

Isn't there a thread on here that talked about how to video your swing for analysis? Shooting angle, ideal frames per second, light, etc?

The clubs I know of here, if you tried to sandbag as badly as that guy did there would be at minimum a year suspension from competition. People are very, very aware of each others' scores and making sure they get properly posted. I'm sure there is still some sandbagging going on but nothing that blatant.
