the taylormade penta tp 5 used to fit this (especially when they were regularly buy 2, get 1 free...around $30 a box), but i think they rebranded that line and it's now the 'lethal' without the discounts?

I buy refurb Pro-V1s. I don't know if they're available everywhere, but I get them at Academy Sports and Outdoors here in Texas for $1 per ball.

I usually stick to Titleists, but I have some random sleeves in my bag. One random sleeve that I've tried and found to be pretty good are the Srixon Z Star XV and they're relatively cheap too (I think ~$30 a box)

Try these out... Callaway HEX Chrome+ @ $30/doz I think they are pretty good value and give decent feel around the greens.

Was just at my local driving range and a guy in a beat up old van was looping the parking lot trying to sell golf balls to everyone there.

Sounded like the start of a bad horror movie to me. Hope there was no extra prize with the alleged "golf balls"

Tired of seeing bald guys on TV. Scott Van Pelt, Tim Hasselbeck, Trent Dilfer, Tony Dungy, and the Golf Channel has that guy that looks like a god damn turtle on TV all the time and now they added another bald white dude. This time without glasses.

I'm a white bald guy and I find this post to be wrong, hurtful and clearly inappropriate.

I think it boils down to how many balls you lose. It's simply cost-prohibitive to buy new ProVs if you are losing balls regularly. I don't think it really matters until you get down to a certain level (not sure what that is).

I'd say get balls that are affordable and have less spin probably. Spin is good if you are a low cap who compresses your wedges and hits the driver straight.

But I'm a 27 so I'm sure you want better players to chime in. As for me, I play 18-hole used ProV1s and ProV1xs. Not really sure how much worse lower end balls are since I don't use them.

distance balls feel like you are hitting a rock normally. if you are a high cap guy and play at an easy course with receptive greens then you can stop them and the lack of spin can be good off the tee. If the greens are firm you will see a world of difference trying to stop the ball.

Personally I use e6 or nxt-s balls since I have lost 10 mph on club head speed from a few years ago. I am about a 15 cap or so with only a 95ish mph club head speed fwiw

I ran out of z star (my normal ball) stock a while back and played some rando cheap balls I had sitting around and noticed a huge difference on approach shots. I normally hop and stop or spin back my short irons and wedges but I was getting some run out with the cheap balls.

If you can make good contact consistently when chipping and hitting shots in from ~100yds then I think they are worth it. That's where you will be benefitting from the consistent spin and control from a higher end ball. Check out lostgolfballs.com and maybe get a dozen used AAAA Pro V1's and then chip and putt for a while with a couple of those and a couple of the Raw's and check out the difference. Pay attention to how the ball checks up with the Raw compared to the Pro V1 when you make good contact. If you're sculling your chip shots etc. then your not going to see any difference other than maybe the sound.

Ya this. I always swore to myself that I would never get to the level of golf-snobbery that I HAD to play a high end ball, but the difference (especially 100 in) is so big that I just don't trust anything else.

Buying $5 golf balls is not golf snobbery iyam. I mean if you lose like 1 ball per round why not get these balls? Compared to the cost of clubs and tee times it's not a large amount.

Now if you slice 4 shots per round oob and declare that you need ProV1s then you're just an assclown.

I've only tried a few, but you're not getting a decent golf GPS for a few bucks. There's a reason skycaddy's cost what they do IMO.
