No, and you replace your ball as close to possible to where it was before it was hit.

Real question is why the **** didn't you mark your ball, was his 3rd shot that far away?

Good question, dunno

Running around marking your ball before everyone is on the green is just wasting time in most cases.

There are situations where it should be done, but it's certainly not a "why the **** didn't you?"-thing.

How do you know what tee boxes you should play? I played today with a few buddies who easily shoot in the low 70's from the blacks. I played 3 holes from the blacks and just could not compete and it wasn't fun, so finally I just said "I'm not as good as you guys, and I'm playing from the whites." I ended up shooting a 39 from the whites on the back 9. At what point should I think about moving back? And does it matter if other people you play with use a different tee box?

IMO play from the whites whenever you can. (You shoot in the 90s, right? Me too, at least on a good day.)

If they use different colors, I usually look to play from roughly 6000 yards, assuming it's a par 70, 71, 72 course. I'd say 90% of the time or more I'm somewhere between 5700 and 6200.

You replace your ball at nearest the location as you can with no penalty. This isn't croquet.

sidenote: if he was already on the green when he made the stroke, he would be assessed a penalty (unless he asked you to mark it and you refused, in which case I think you are assessed a penalty)

*edit* oops. Didn't see that was the end of the page. I missed the last 6 responses since the initial question. my bad.

I think I tinker with my swing too much.

After working on my game during the winter, I started hitting my drives consistently 270-290 yards (and occasionally breaking 300). I continued to tinker with my swing, and now I can't break 250 yards (230 average).

In short, I worked on keeping my left arm straight all the way in the backswing, whereas, earlier in the season I was allowing some bend. My swing looks better now and is more consistent, but I can't get the distance. I'm tempted to go back to allowing a little bend in the left arm.

edit: I'm now trying to really put more twist in my hips/body in hopes of creating more torque action (if that makes sense), but it looks like it's gonna be a process now to get the feel of things and the timing right again. I'm hooking the ball now, and I've always been a slicer.

I don't know if I'm looking for advice here or not, just wanted to vent. Love this frustrating game too much.

Play from whatever tees you feel comfortable.

Pretty much the only thing you need. I've been enjoying playing in the rain ever since I got rid of the umbrella and the towels. Now I just wear those gloves with rain pants over my underwear and laugh at my playing partners who try to stay dry.

Playing in the rain is pretty fun. Small sample size but I finished 4 holes walking in the pouring rain with a stranger that I met up with and both of us played the holes in the rain much better than our 'caps would have suggested. That's partly to do with why we finished while everyone else on the course left

Once you're soaken wet all that matters is your grip. And for me - my glasses. Yes I rock glasses while I play. Water drops **** on the lenses with me so I think I just take them off and hit into a blur of rain.

suggestions from an Oregon golfer that plays 12 months a year. There's rain, and then there's RAIN. these suggestions will get you through RAIN.

yes to the zero restriction jackets (look for sales on TGW and other such sites). my current go-to has removable half sleeves to convert to a rain shirt. great in warmer weather. I've found that the quality of rain pants don't matter as much as long as the jacket keeps you dry. wear the pants over shorts in warmer weather so that you don't melt from the inside.

ditto the FJ rain gloves. I usually carry at least two pair so that i can swap them out mid round as necessary.

I bought a sun mountain H2NO bag several months ago and i no longer carry an umbrella. i honestly don't understand why more manufacturers don't make at least one type of waterproof bag. waterproof fabric, taped seams, generous rain hood to easily cover the longest of clubs even when half unzipped.

when it's really wet in the middle of the winter and the course is mucky i'll put on the nike air zoom bandon hightops. i'm pretty sure you could wade through a creek with those on and not get your feet wet. i have a few pairs of dryjoys that work in non-mucky conditions and also do a great job when it's not raining but the grass is wet.

a good rain hat is also nice if you aren't carrying an umbrella. i've tend to wear bucket hats when it's really coming down, but there are also waterproof caps that work pretty good.

the frogger amphibian towel will get wet on the outside but stay dry on the inside when it's pouring rain.

I generally base it off of distance rather than a specific colored tees. I'm generally in the 6300-6600 yard range so I try to find a box around those yardages.

For me personally, it's not much fun if you're playing every par 4 driver 4 iron or 3 wood. I also think sometimes it's nice to mix up tee boxes for different yardages to get your desired yardages.

I tend to look at the rating/slope moreso than the yardage. Will select the tees that are like 70.7/115 or similar.

Mother****er, I managed to hit myself with a ball yesterday.

Par 5, pulled driver left, drill one of a few trees on the left side about 40 yards away. Tree couldnt be more than 18in diameter. Ball rockets straight back at me and nails me in upper thigh. I now have a giant bruise that resembles a bullseye. White in middle surrounded by a red ring and a blue ring.

What the ****. Craziest thing ever.

Is there a standard amount of mulligans a high hdcp should give them self per round? I count literally everything and my scores make ARC look like Rory.

Okay, thats a stretch, but after playing my second ball I find that if I gave myself 3-4 mullys a round Id probably shave 10+ strokes.

I guess thats disingenious, but really Im not sure.

0. LOL @ 3-4

Though I do take a mulligan probably every few rounds.

I could have taken one last time out when I sliced my drive oob and saved 2 strokes but my score was so ****ty anyway that I just counted everything legit.

In all honesty... try to count ALL your strokes when you are beginning. It's the only way to know if you are improving AND it forces you to try to improve.
