Meh, not that eventful. Those are pretty much all of my drops/issues over a 3 day tournament.

Group ahead by the way.

As for the waggle issue, that's good to know. I definitely didn't intend to hit it and was actually picking the club straight up before I set it down again....part of my weird preshot routine to make sure I'm all stretched out and stuff before I hit.

Anyone have tips on a book that touches the subjects of nutrition, practice and mental parts of golf?

Bob Rotella's - Golf is not a Game of Perfect is a pretty good read for the mental side of golf.

Fat chance, but has anyone played at the golf course at the L'auberge du lac casino in Lake Charles, Louisiana? I may go there in July and play it but not if I hear it's AIDS. I'm guessing it will be expensive for the course quality and will be over-run with yahoos.

Attempt is about intent, and goes with the spirit of the game. I think we have to take his word on it.

And as far as the details on why it's okay to knock your ball off a tee, it's because the ball is not in play until a stroke is made, which is an attempt to hit the ball.

Yeah but I think it's a very grey area with Na. He literally is taking his club back in full speed, lined up with the ball, and brings his swing back down at almost full speed, then at the last second pulls up or off so as not to hit the ball. At the last second, his intent is to not hit the ball but from the beginning of his backswing through most of his downswing his intent is to hit the ball.

Plus he should just be assessed a penalty anyway for that being super annoying.

Basically, where is "intent" registered? At the start of the swing or up until the last second? I guess last second but it seems silly to let him take a full swing then pull off and come inches from hitting the ball. It's also potentially very dangerous if he hits it with the edge of his driver and kills a spectator.

One thing is, probably for the first time ever, I want to play more and get better after a tournament. Usually it is a reminder that I am a headcase and spend the whole time trying not to screw up and I don't want to play again for a while. Nice to actually feel normal during tournament rounds.

This. I also serendipitously found Tommy Angelo's books a tremendous help to my golf mental game. Started a thread on it a while ago. As for nutrition The Zone by Barry Sears helped me a lot in college (lacrosse, not golf). That was in the 90s so it may be a bit outdated.

Need (want) a new driver. The one I have is seriously dated, and as a result can only get it out about 240 with any consistancy at all. I touch 265-270 when I realllly flush one, which isnt often. Not trying to hit it 300 or anything, but would definately like a bit more off the tee more regularly. Going with Ebay and not really too worried about going used so long as its from a reputable Ebay store. Still a high handicap so something forgiving would be a huge plus.

Trying to stay under $50, but I understand that might be pushing it so realistically I could go up to probably $75 or so.

Help? See a bunch of 975Js. Did some reading and they have pretty damn good reviews and were popular for a while. Can anyone comment on that particular club by chance?

Ugh. This is starting to get expensiveeee

240 with consistency is good for a high 'capper. Save your money until you get better at short game and putting.

Well its not really consistant per say... More like not a snap hook OB consistant but within 10 yards either way of the fairway consistant.

I'd skip the 975's even though they were good and get a 905R. Should be able to get one for under $75 on e bay. If you want something smaller the tm r7 tp should be cheap but I haven't checked recently.

yeah you should be able to do a lot better than a 975J for $60, 905R or T were pretty good, lot bigger/more forgiving face

07-08 Taylormade Burners were good, should be able to get one of those for that price

I'm kind of bored of the driver + wedge game that I play on my 6650 yards par 73 course. Next weekend I'm thinking of carrying only 6 clubs for both days in order to mix it up.

saturday

Hybrid 3
6 iron
8 iron
PW
LW
Putter

Sunday

3 wood
5 iron
7 iron
9 iron
SW
Putter

Does anyone do something like this every now and then? Thoughts?

Definitely. It's fun to just carry a light bag and hit different shots.

yeah some of those hot deals can be ridiculous. I've played decent courses here in Dallas area with cart for less than $20.

I'm so sick and tired of baby-ing my little 30 yard pitch shots from around the green and having them land 2 feet short of the green and sit in the grass. I don't know why I do this but it's like I'm afraid of hitting it way too far, which absolutely never happens on my pitch shots. My misses are always like 0-5 feet short of the green. Just like .9 strokes just lit on fire. Typical long par 4 that I play poorly I'll be like 30 yards off the green in any direction, baby my pitch to a few feet off the green. Now I'm looking at up and down for bogey. Chip to like 12 feet then 2-putt for double.

Anyway I took ship's advice a while back about always aiming center of green, and last round out I just basically started doing this with my little pitches as well (maybe he intended this). I figure if I'm off the green in regulation and pitch to the middle of the green, and mis-hit should still let me 2-putt for bogey. And maybe 1-putt for par anyway. Too concerned with saving par from 30 yards out, which isn't likely anyway. Should just play for center-of-green and 2-putt for bogey. Doubles and triples just suck and kill rounds.

There's really no remedy other than just practicing it a ton. I feel like 30-50 yards is a very tough distance because I can't really take a half swing at it but I also feel like I don't have much feel with my chipping swing.

Having never seen your swing, just basing it off of people I know with similar handicaps, I would focus on shortening the backswing to make sure you fully accelerate through the ball.
