I give myself one every few rounds out of frustration. Im just saying once that second ball goes down its almost at worst decent 75% of the time. I also swing freeier and dont think so much on sdcond balls it seems, so I know I need to work on that too.

Yep. That's what I'm talking about last week. I got lazy on my drive and hit a high fade into the woods. Yelled at myself and re-teed and stepped up and hit the ball right and it went straight and 310. 40 yards out on a short par 4. Pitched and missed theputt from 14' for double-bogey. Ridiculous.

But I counted 6 because it will force me to not be an idiot on that first shot and really focus.

Usually if I give myself a mulligan it's because I did something stupid or lazy that I know better. But if you think about it you need to punish yourslef for being stupid or lazy if you actually want to legit improve.

What the ****. Craziest thing ever.
The odds are, that will eventually happen; it's good to know we heard a first hand story.

Best of luck in your recovery.

rmt: what's the use of giving yourself mulligans? (assuming you're just counting for yourself)

Ego? Im awful, but my goal this summer is to break 100. Well, ideally 90 but first things first. Anyway a mulligan a round and Ill obviously will achieve thay number sooner.

I dont do it often. Was really just wondering if there was some sort of baseline most golfers give themselves as like an unwritten rule.

wrt rain gear: I already have the gloves and umbrella, and one gore-tex, half sleeved pullover. I'm currently looking into getting a pair of pants and jacket that don't make me look like a soccer coach on the side line.

Certainly wrt breaking 100 for the first time. No way would I shoot 101 and take a mulligan for a drive slice oob and claim I shot 99 for first time breaking 100. I thought you just meant in general.

Don't worry man you'll break 100. I shot legit 90 and 91 within like 6 months of starting and haven't been back in 2 years since lol. That 91 was my first time breaking 100, too. And first time playing with 1 ball all round iirc.

My biggest problems right now are accuracy off the tee, thinking too much pre shot/ fidgiting/ not alligning properly as a result, and babying every ****ing iron I hit not wanting to shank it but coming uo absurdly short.

No, you won't. What you'll achieve is the score you claim to have gotten + the shots you should have counted but didn't. If you feel it's ok to "break 100" that way, you already have - just deduct whatever shots you need to do so from your last score.

As I said, I do it once every 3 or 4 rounds. I feel like Im already miles ahead of people my skill level WRT not cheating myself.

Yeah I doubt that if you were asking legitimately if taking 3 or 4 mulligans a round is standard.

Where did that even come from? Mulligan protocol amongst people who are wont to take mulligans is ONE a round. But it's certainly still "cheating". Definitely try to take 0. But massive lols at asking about 3 or 4 a round then claiming you are way more righteous than most people who shoot 110. Let's just say I doubt it.

I brought it up because someone in the whatd you shoot thread asked if/how many mulligans someone played on their back 9. Yhought I may have been missing something common.

Also, you really think a large % of total hacks are counting everytime they advance the ball 2ft when they mi**** from the trees and such? Maybe Im wrong and most every hack is vety honest with themselves wrt such things, but Im skeptical.

At any rate, this got super silly really fast. I was just asking a genuine (allbeit turns out incredibly stupid) question.

Moving on...

It's not really a stupid question. The thing about mulligans is that someone decided to give cheating a cute name and it somehow got accepted as borderline ok, in at least some circumstances, by a lot of people, so it's no wonder there's confusion about it.

I've played with people who've been convinced that taking a mulligan on the first tee was well within the official rules of golf.

I always play two off the first tee if no practice balls have been hit.

FJ pants with zipper on the bottom so they are easy to get on and off. They work like a charm.

2 off the 1st is completely standard.

My policy is that I'm perfectly within my rights to start a new round of golf. Practically speaking, of course, it's very difficult to do this after you've walked off the first tee box.

(I should make it clear that if I were playing in a competition, I wouldn't do this.)

I think those are called Breakfast Balls. I would probably find it necessary to start my round with my mulligan if it weren't for the fact my home course now has a forced 7 iron layup short of water.

name of the game is escaping me but it's the one where you use your driver on the tee, and have to putt your ball off both white tee markers.

friend of mine and I were 8 holes in and I was up $20. last hole he wanted double or nothing. he goes first, leaves it a foot short.

I hit the white marker on first try, then on my second shot his ball was in the way of me having a clear shot at the other marker and the win, so I just blasted mine into his, taking his ball from 1 foot away to probably 20 feet away.

I'm celebrating, he goes and picks his ball up and wants to put it back where it was..

**** no, right?

I can hit his ball every time if I wanted to.

he ended up whining to the point where we cancelled the double or nothing and he (still) owes me $20.

anyway, great game to play if you're a double on a course full of foursomes.

Okay, thats a stretch, but after playing my second ball I find that if I gave myself 3-4 mullys a round Id probably shave 10+ strokes.

I guess thats disingenious, but really Im not sure.
2 drives off the first tee (I'll still do this sometime if the course doesn't have a range I can warm up on) and 1 mulligan per side. obviously mulligans can't be taken on the green.

thats acceptable if you're not good. anything more is a blow to your manhood.

so is this 'shaving strokes' nonsense. stop doing that.

just play a two ball scramble with yourself instead if the course isn't real crowded.

I did that the first maybe 3 rounds this spring, helps with the frustration of being rusty. obv I didn't count those rounds towards handicap.
