I don't think he read it as a double-breaker at all. I remember him raising his hand (preemptively) in defeat, after the first break.

Kinda like when you know you just missed a putt and are ready to just walk up to it for a quick tap in.

Yo Sharkie, you been to Lionhead lately? I'm playing the Masters course on Monday and curious about the current conditions there.

Yea, I play there ~once a week. (playing again, this Saturday morning).

The greens are better than they were from earlier in the season, but still not consistent throughout.

I'll give you a more current trip report after my round on Saturday.

Cool, no worries about the update, we paid through GolfNow so we're pot committed anyway. I just wanted to know if I was walking into a disaster.

We should get out to osprey again soon, I played there last week and the conditions were out of this world again.

So does anyone have any suggestions...I have the original RBZ driver (opened 1.5 so 8* oft() that I have the Prolaunch X red in (One of the cheapest low launch shafts). I hit it at the Driing range last night and it cracked pretty close to the sweet spot on the crown.

Now I have a buddy coming to town tomorrow night for a golf weekend who i havent seen in 3 years and I want to play somewhat decent.

I went to edwin watts..their launch monitor is broken, says my prolaunch won't fit in any of their clubs and they have no tips left to put ont he prolaunch.

they have an SLDR X TP for 499 I believe , and I think that is too much for a shaft i don't get fitted for . I would just get an S flex, but when I switched from S-X i gained about 50 yards on my drives (about 117-119 ss, relatively not smooth). I live in Atlanta...does anyone have advice for me or something they can sell me that I can pick up?

Finishing up that PGA from 2000 tonight, interesting how leaderboards are a mix of players we associate with different generations. Here are names from the first three pages, some are still relevant today, others peaked in the 80s or (in Tom Watson's case) earlier.

J.M. Olazabal
Thomas Bjorn
Stuart Appleby
Greg Chalmers
Notah Begay
Phil Mickelson
Tom Watson
Darren Clarke
Fred Funk
Stewart Cink
Chris DiMarco
Lee Westwood
Tom Kite
Robert Allenby
Angel Cabrera

Watson both peaked earlier and is still relevant.

Well I think my golf season is over. Played 36 holes on Thursday, and on the 32nd hole I shanked my 56 degree. Figured it was just an outlier, but again another shank, and another shank, and another and another. Played today, shanked every wedge. Wow. I was shooting consistently 88-92. Really worried that this is it. Anyone ever go through this. I was striking the ball so pure just a week ago. Hell the first 18 I played on Thursday I shot an 85 with 2 birdies and 6 par.

Hard to believe but that was 14 years ago. Surprised as many of them are still relevant.

Yeah. I had a really bad case of the shanks once and it scared the **** out of me. Thought I might have to quit my favorite sport forever, very disconcerting.

What got me through it was standing a bit farther away from the ball and focusing on hitting in-to-out draws with my wedges (it was almost always the wedges that would shank). I don't know if that'll help you as my understanding is there are myriad reasons for shanking, all with different fixes.

After a while they just sort of went away. Now I don't even think about shanking, which is probably the best way to ensure that they don't come back.

re: shanks

on the range, put a couple of tees just to the outside of the golf ball and make swings focusing on not letting the club head hit the tees. do that for a while and you'll quit shanking it.

I've always thought that in the right location, a private club that has very strict penalties for not playing in less than ~4:15 could do very, very well.

I'm talking like 3 strikes and you're out type of penalties.

Rich people seem to value their time so for them to know for a fact that they can always squeeze in a round in roughly 4 hours would be very attractive I'd think.

Pretty sure you get some kind of mark if you take over 4 hours at the club I work at. 5somes take around 3.5 hours, it's crazy.

Just everybody on the same page regarding ready golf plus having forecaddie.

I've only had the shanks on a few occasions, but each time the quick fix (for me) was to set up with the ball towards the toe.

Sorry to hear.

My quick fix for shanks (though I realize it isn't applicable to everyone) is to make sure my wrists are set a bit more flat at address. So there is a more defined angle in my wrists.

Hope that helps!

At the beginning of every season I tend to shank pretty much my entire of first bucket of balls.

This reminds me of playing in a tournament one summer when I was younger, was playing solid being -1 thru like 12 and in the middle of 13 fairway I hit a dead shank, no idea where it came from. Definitely messed with my head the rest of the round but random shanks can happen from time to time

Heh funny side story.

Kid on my HS golf team was, what we call, a driving range pro. Had one of the best swings on the team and striped the ball on the range. That swing / game never transitioned to the course and I'd say his career avg in competitive rounds was 88.

Anyways, in our conference tourney, he happens to be paired with a good friend of mine from a rival school. They knew each other and were friendly.

Through 14 holes in conference, the driving range pro is +2 and playing out of his mind. He makes small talk with my friend about his golf swing, and my friend, in full sincerity, says that it was the best he's seen him swing the club (they had played a few times prior to this round).

Cue the mental trainwreck.

In his final four holes, the game completely unravels and he hangs his head as he signs his scorecard for a +12.

A shank is just another bad shot, don't let it mess with your mind. I hit one every once in a while. Made a post a couple of years back when I hit two hosel rockets in one round and shot 69.

Not trying to get personal UC but you're an Ohio kid or a Chicago kid. If Ohio, do you mind telling me your HS conference? My kids go to D2 HS (golf) D4 (football) it's pretty fun getting back into High School sports after years of just passive interest.
