Thanks, I really appreciate having people around who can talk some sense into me. I just started having one of "those" nights and freaked out that one session was giving me flashbacks of the past two months. Probably need to implement a stop-loss, eh?

Re: *****Official February "greatest place on the interwebs" Chat Thread!*****

it's so amazing,
I don't know if it's the working out @ the gym or because I have a lot to deal with lately,
but I slept almost 10/11 hours!!

Blegh, don't like it

another question:
Is it me, or does nobody like to give advice about hands anymore?
Sometimes I see a hand being posted with 100 viewers and 1 or 2 comments, and not even from the "regular" 2p2ers but complete "unknowns"

I am guilty of this too btw!

Yeah I feel a stop loss is essential even if you play way overrolled. The thing is that playing on tilt is akin to getting drunk i.e. you get that same thought process "you know what would be a really good idea...." even when you know when you are thinking straight that it would never ever be a good idea.

I do like to give advice, but most of the time I have nothing to add. The good answers have already been given out and there is rarely even room for discussion.

The other times the hands just fall into that general WTF category that I don't know where to start.

After all I happen to be a believer in quality > quantity. There is very, very little value going for an AOL-type "me too"/"+1"/... garbage. The exceptions are when there is actually discussion about alternative options but even then I still make posts that I would like to receive myself. Namely, I try to lay out the reasoning for any argumentation.

Even when I'm wrong, having the why pointed out helps a lot.

+1

6 BI is my stop loss.

My thoughts exactly, I find there is no reason commenting if what I thought already has been said. And all the KK, AA preflop mostly fall into the WTF category.

Re: *****Official February "greatest place on the interwebs" Chat Thread!*****

I admit that when I'm not short on time I'm also somewhat lazy and stuff but I agree strongly with the above.

And then there's these situations that are so specific and rare that it almost doesn't matter at all what you do ("can I fold quads to his likely higher quads") or situations that are very close to neutral EV and/or very villain dependant, but the required information about villain didn't get posted. Basically situations where you can go both ways without knowing more and where you can't be far off both ways.

Edit: "Play a hand with me" threads ftw.

$1*0.4 + $2*0.3 + $3*0.2 + $4*0.1 = $2 EV for a single spin.

Therefore, optimal would be to quit when you hit $3 or $4. Odds of totally missing $3 or $4 in 3 spins is 0.7*0.7*0.7 = 34.3%

34.3% of the time you hit $2 or less in 3 spins.
65.7% of the time you hit $3 or more in 3 spins.

42.8% of the time that you hit $2 or less you hit $2.
57.2% of the time that you hit $2 or less you hit $1.

66.7% of the time that you hit $3 or more you hit $3.
33.3% of the time that you hit $3 or more you hit $4.

0.343(0.428*2 + 0.572*1) + 0.657(0.667*3 + 0.333*4)
= 0.343(1.428) + 0.657(3.333)
= 0.490 + 2.190
= 2.68

Therefore this game is slightly +EV if you follow my rules and you should expect a ROI of 7.2%.

There is probably a better way to play if you are planning on doing multiple spins. ie. probably something about stopping if you hit $2 on the second spin to avoid taking a 40% risk on hitting $1 on the 3rd spin. This would make it much more +EV in the long run I think but I'm not sure how to figure it out. The 3rd spin obviously does not rely on whether or not you missed $3-$4 on the 1st and 2nd spins.

(I'm probably way off here and would easily get suckered into this game that is most likely -EV due to my bad math skills)
Looks good, there's no better strategy in the long run though. Simpler way of looking at it:

EV of 1 spin is $2.
EV of 2 spins is 0.1 x $4 + 0.2 x $3 (win $3 or $4) + 0.7 x $2 (take another spin if not) = $2.4
EV of 3 spins is 0.1 x $4 + 0.2 x $3 (win $3 or $4) + 0.7 x $2.4 (take another 2 spins if not) = $2.68 hence free monies!!!

I really want to watch this, especially since you and I have shared quite few tables.

I just watched Split's equity video last night, have Cardrunners, (and I assume Stox), this month. How in the world do people keep up?

Granted, I work and have a family, but sheez, this could easily take full time for a recreational player.

GL on your 100NL move. I've been dabbling there and may see you around a bit.

TY.

I wouldn't mind a thread of these. I think a little conditional probability practice can't be a bad thing.

I'm in the same boat as you. Now is even worse cause I'm not playing at all due to work and won't again until after 4/15. The 2+2 mantra of move up, move up, move up doesn't help either. I mean come on, if you can't go from NL5 to NL100 in six months you're not doing something right, imo.

The way I think about it is that there several things in my life that are more important than poker. Family being first and foremost. I really try to make sure everything is good with those other things before I allot time to play, reveiw, watch vids, or post in chat threads. I know if I didn't poker could really take over. Also remember the game's supposed to be fun, right? The only person you need to impress or answer to is yourself.
