Don't you have any private debt collection agencies you could sell your payables to?

- You'd get some of the money (the agency won't ever pay 1:1 but getting shorted is better than getting shafted)
- The clients who refused to pay now get to deal with professional debt collectors who have all the (legal) muscle to extract their money from the debtor

Do that couple of times and then send the rest final notices with "before" and "after" documentation on what happens to those who try to screw you over.

I do nasty for sport.

Haha, yeah I just sent a few off to the solicitor to deal with today. Some I just can't do like that because some of the guys owing $ are honest working people like me stuck in a chain.

I coach uNL players and timewise 2-3 regular people usually keep me busy along with the occasional one off session but I'm planning to spend more time on poker for the next few months anyway.
I don't do stakes, just straight coaching

If you want to live in a truly free market economy, you should move to Somalia or Western Sudan and see such systems in action, imo.

Seriously? Advances in medical science can't be forseen?

Isn't it lovely to pay double employment taxes, (employer and employee), and of course you're not eligible for unemployment if your business should happen to fail.

deep down? No I've been a McCain supporter for 12 years, actively worked on his campaign for him in the 2004 primaries (because I despised Bush).

With that said, I am perfectly fine with Obama being president, I think his leadership qualities make up for the fact he has never written any legislation, or never really present a coherent plan for anything during the campaign. Plus McCain became a real dick in the last 3 months of the election and became what he despises (a sleazy politician).

I like the choices Obama is making and I am a HUGE Geithner fan! I think he is the bomb. Of course I am probably a huge economist geek.

Hong Kong has welfare and public works anyway. And all the land is owned by the government. How is that "free market"?

Weird. Works for me. Here's another one:

Hong Kong tops economic freedom chart again, US dips

Quote:
Hong Kong has consistently been ranked the world's most free economy since the index launch 15 years ago. It is one of the easiest places to start and liquidate a business, government intervention and corruption are low, as are trade barriers and taxes, and social mobility is high, the foundation said.

I really don't wanna get deep into this economic discussion. I'm just a wage slave, and don't have some of the considerations some of you have as independent business owners. However, my current opinion is that anyone who regurgitates the standard Republican lines these days has no credibility whatsoever. We've just gone through 8 years of near-complete Republican control and we've gone from a good economy with a budget surplus to a total economic meltdown and trillion-dollar deficits. Huge military budgets + fighting a war + tax cuts = disaster. You can have anything you want, but you have to be willing to pay for it.

Yes, I know there were some Demos involved in decisions over the last 2 years . . . most of which got vetoed.

No offense to anyone in particular . . . it's a sore subject for me right now.

I don't advocate every aspect of their system and property rights are a bedrock of US society. But, I'd love to live under their tax structure.

Quote:
* No sales tax
* No capital gains tax
* No VAT
* Maximum salary tax of 20%
* Profit tax maximum of 16%

Throw in "*no deductions, loopholes, or exceptions", and I'm inclined to agree. No that its great or anything, but it wouldn't suck.

Well, I'd love to be the sole landlord of the most densely populated city on Earth. That the government doesn't need other forms of taxation (although there's a sort of renter's tax on top of the lease agreements) isn't shocking. This site makes a good breakdown of how this is just tricky bookkeeping to make this out to be as "free" as certain parties suggest.

Quote:
Many Hong Kongers live in third world conditions, and the need to pay astronomical residential property prices is widely viewed as an indirect form of taxation.
