Lol, at epeen waving. My chat thread is better than your chat thread.
I don't whine, so it is possible. Most my friends don't whine about poker either. And the Reg thread isn't better than this one, it's just different.

People try so hard to bring the world together, yet we always find ways to segment ourselves.
It's weird b/c down here I chat in this thread, but in SSFR forum I chat mostly in the FTP reg thread. That thread is great b/c you get to follow the soap opera of Ace Vader..... pure entertainment.

Okay, it was my video card driver that was too old. Updated it and now my monitor is working fine!

I know that for some of you ballers with your 36" screens it doesn't sound like much, but I really feel great about this thing right now. Even more so cause it's the first thing I buy with poker winnings.

I still like the chat-thread, I don't mind the PS players to chat there, not that I don't like them but well, if they rather chat there then here, so be it

I am just a micro stakes reg, because I am withdraw whore. But I am working on it

Still going to be here when I hit higher stakes tho, I like the micros. Friendly people, most of them

That's such a relief to hear, I thought I was the only one who did that.

What's wrong with wine?

Seriously though, I realized I am becoming a lot more negative in my old age. OK, I'm not old but I think I'm actually going through a bit of a quarter life crisis - I never used to be this negative and I complain so much more.

I have decided to nip it in the bud. So if you see me whine slap me. As far as real life I have decided to channel all that negativity into the productive pursuit of fixing the things in my life that bother me. As far as poker, everybody has bad runs, so if I can't deal with that I need to quit - I'm just going to try enjoy the grind.

Its too bad we don't have signatures here, otherwise, it would be a great way to remind yourself constantly.

Deal

Agree that fixing problems >>> whining about them.

As far as life goes, I'd be a lousy aide (read: life noob), so take this fwiw: Imho it's the small details that make or butch someone's day. If you can notice them and find the little funny/enjoyable/absurd/ironic things that make you laugh or feel good, there's almost nothing that can devastate you (almost) no matter how bad the circumstances might be.

Take them for a really long walk before you begin playing so that they pass out while you are playing. This is key for me on the weekends when I play longer sessions .

The funny thing is: Either you have a big life expierence or you are life noob, you will come to the same conclusion.
The only difference people that already has been trough a lot can deal with the hard stuf a bit more.

Which isn't a good thing, because you'll go trough a fase of 'feeling like a robot' where nothing really gives you any kind of emotion.

That period sucks, because when you come out of it, you really have to learn how to "feel" again.

(i guess this kind of posts keep people away from the chat, lol)

I agree with that. Totally helps. Here is another thing that I thought was really funny: I saw an article in a medical journal written by a professor of medicine (M.D.) It was called 12 Ways to Live a Happier, Longer and Healthier Life (or something close to that). The usual stuff was on the list, eat a little better, exercise blah blah blah... The one that I thought was hilarious was "Don't watch the news much." Because it's all pretty much bad news (in most news outlets anyway), most of it truly doesn't effect your life and there is very little you can do about it. Interesting advice from a doctor.

I have been practicing selective ignorance. I find that the big news stories still find their way too me through social interaction and I still feel pretty good about my choice. I think there may be something to this in addition to "not sweating the small stuff" like you say Kflip.

Ha ha, I wouldn't say it's -EV. It's +EV but ironically the problem is that there is no variance. Which is good because the paycheck isn't lighter certain weeks, but it's also horrible because there is no possibility of going on a heater.

Edit: I will say that extra work for the man is definitely way way -EV.

Embrace the variance

Seems the get bonus run bad effect has hit me, just had a session where i got pretty much no hands.

Haha, I like it. Living aloof from the rest of the world spatially but especially mentally would probably be healthiest (if you can get medical attendance when it's necessary). For social interactions you mustn't be alone though.

Erm, "not sweating the small stuff" is not what I was trying to say (yeh I know, my English sucks). What I meant was that if you can enjoy the little things that make you happy no matter the circumstances, you're just fine.
Example: You're shift-working in a factory, tuff dirty work, and it's very exhausting and annoying. But there's that guy across the corridor who curses every other minute for no apparent reason and this machine to the right of you which makes a funny noise every working cycle. Good times imo.

Ha ha right right... I see what you are saying. I was thinking something similar to that. Turning what could be minor annoyances into humor, which could apply to the example you just made up. You could say "$*&* me! Why do I have to work next to that *@#$#" or you can find humor in it like you say. Lots of stuff like that happens every day.

lol, just wrote an email to my director of studies, who is one of the most senior members of the applied maths department

Quote:
Dear Prof. xxxxxxxx,

I have decided that I would like to drop Groups, Rings and Modules this term. It is unlikely I would do much GRM in the exam or any courses that require it next year, and I would rather focus on applied courses.

Regards,
Jonathan.
smooth

is it bad that one of the main reasons I want to drop an 8-week course is that I have a problem sheet due on Monday?
