I had him picked a solid week ago but the reason I hemmed and hawed due to his lack of offense. I would have liked a little more strength inside offensively, but there was no one I really liked. Donyell will have to suffice.

Round8/Pick #286: Anti-Dirk

Doesn't fit with my team one bit, but this is a guy I thought shoud've gone at least two rounds ago. I'll keep this writeup pretty short, as everyone knows what he brings to the table: offense, offense, offense. Two times has led the league in PER, 3 times has led the league in OWS. Bulk and efficiency. I can use him as a perfect sparkplug off my bench. Absolute steal here imo.

Team so far:

Team so far:
PG Derek Harper
SG Penny Hardaway
SF Rodney McCray
PF Andrei Kirilenko
C Tim Duncan

PF Bo Outlaw
SF Thaddeus Young
PF Anti Dirk

I like KVH, I think he was BPA left.

Ricky Davis. I remember in Cleveland he had some insane-o dunk on a fast break where he almost took off from the FT line, destroyed some poor sap, and when he landed just screamed "OH SHT!" Thats all the nice things I have to say about him.

assani,

one problem with your Kapono pick. He actually doesn't like shooting 3s. He's even publicly talked about it. "Doesn't want to be one dimensional", even though his value would skyrocket if he was. He's so damn frustrating I hate him so much because of it.

This season he took 6 shots per game but only 1.5 3s. And the other 4.5 shots are usually 18-22 foot jumpers. That's awful. A guy like Posey, on the other hand, takes 7 3s for every 10 shots.

I'm pretty meh on it. At least he's such a good shooter that it doesn't kill his eFG%, but damn it's still annoying. He should be taking ~250 3s every single season, maybe even 300.. he's only had one over 200 (and that was in 67 games.. so it was a solid pace).

i will always remember this in 2003:

Quote:
As a frontline witness to the changing climate, Jason Kapono could see he was on the wrong side of a basketball revolution. One of those four-year college kids pushed aside in the NBA's lust for the drop-dead Euro shooter, Kapono saw his draft status become a casualty of the escalating war on American basketball.

At the time, in 2003, Kapono delivered a fabulous commentary on the increasing skepticism toward elder collegians. "I should have left UCLA after my freshman year, played in Croatia, grown a beard and changed my name to Vladimir Kaponovich," he said.

Good point overall.

I'm guessing that since we're not drafting coaches, that we can control all coaching decisions...in that case, it'll be a "learn to just shoot 3s or sit on the bench" type deal from me. Not gonna pull the Marbury "Well I'll just teach him to play differently" card, but I think its at least a possibility that he does it a little better. And you posted those numbers from last year with Toronto. If you look at the year in which he had great teamates he shot 3.1 threes out of 8.4 shots per game.

Also I think you'd be surprised at some of the other 3 point shooters and how many 2 pointers they took too.

haha, yeah he seems like a pretty funny dude. My 4th link in the writeup includes some good lines too.

"Hows your life changed since winning the 3 point competition"

"I've got so many fans calling me from Pakistan, Khazikstan...."

still not great, and that's his very best ratio. btw, just to nit, that MIA team wasn't really good and he had better teammates this season in TOR.

The numbers are with you, but man, he was so bad...
There are a couple of players that I would probably never take(EJ is one of them, and another Milwaukee center that I briefly considered), simply because I've watched too many of their games, and can not get over how horrible they were with the ball in their hands.

In those case, I feel that actually watching the games hurt your drafting, because it makes you so biased against some players.

yes, anti-dirk is mostly a PF...guess he could sometimes play SF but it'd be hard on him defensively. Kapono is a SF pretty much all the time I think.

One thing about Kapono is, I'd hesitate to call him "the best 3 point shooter in history." I think you need to hoist up at least 4 or so a game to be even considered for that title. I just think part of the reason his percentage is so high has a lot to do with him being selective in that department.

Contast that with Steve Nash, who takes a fair amount of 3's, shoots a very high percentage, and gets many of them unassisted..

Then again Nashty went really early, so who knows. Either way, it does seem like a good fit with Duncan. I think you would have been better off taking shooters earlier on though, ones that are good at other things like Mike Miller, Bill Laimbeer, or Jeff Hornacek

Ricky Davis - It's strange, but I immediately thought he sucked, even though I haven't seen him nearly enough to form an opinion. Looking at his stats, particularly his post 24 years, he actually was a pretty damn good scorer. I guess he's one of those guys that I completely forgot about.

Clue me in because I feel pretty dumb about Ricky, the fact that I hadn't thought about him shows just how little I know about him as a player.
