Plus there was that awards show the other day, so again it was probably talked about by all the TDs etc in attendence.

Airline flights, trains and busses on routes within the United States. The virus is in the states. If someone on a flight/train becomes visibly ill, will the flight be quarantined upon arrival? Isn't the reasoning behind quarantine/not allowing disembarkment the same?
The vast majority of the crew is international with maybe half being from the Philippines typically. The ships are generally registered out of some country besides the USA due to tax/regulation reasons even if the parent company is listed on a USA stock exchange. Cruises have passengers from all over the world but mostly from the countries nearby where they're sailing from.

Quarantine will need to be considered and it may be on the ship but the Diamond Princess showed problems with how the Japanese tried to do it with 2600 passengers stuck in their cabins while 1000 crew worked and slept together while they tried to take care of the ship, passengers, and themselves. Finding a facility capable of quarantining 3000+ people properly isn't exactly easy. Impossible is a better way to describe it.

Yeah read thru that a few times. Whats striking is that even if say only 20% of these scenarios come true, it's still going to be enough to change daily life as we know it and bring any major Western country to it's knees

Yep. I think we are going to see Army bases being used, people in tents and field hospitals at some point

Thanks for the info about cruises. Didn't know most of that.

I'm still much more curious about peoples thoughts in regards to domestic travel and quarantines. Isn't the theory behind a quarantine the same? If the virus is already in the states, what's the difference if someone is from Italy, Somalia, Peru or the United States? What's the difference if all the travelers on a ship, plane, train are from the United States or from a 'x' number of different countries?

I don't understand your question. Can you rephrase it.

No, not at all. I actually did Google it, which is why I posted this:

I think you may have missed my distinction between sunshine and UV-C. UV-C is known to kill viruses, but according to what I read (in that linked article, for example), much of UV-C from sunlight is absorbed by the upper atmosphere.

Regardless, while I welcome any new information because I know little about this, I'm also not trying to pick your post apart and appreciate your reply.

I'm not sure what your point is, or what you're expecting. I (and some others) have been saying all along that WSOP doesn't need to make any decision yet, so I'm not in the "fear mongering" camp, yet I don't understand why you think that Tweet is so important. WSOP will have no plans to cancel, until they do. And that day may never come, but the fact that they don't plan to cancel now really doesn't have much effect on whether they will in the future. They might have to cancel, or they might not.

The thing is we aren't going to run out of it so I don't know why there is so much panic as the distributors have warehouses that have tons of it to supply to supermarkets who them selves would have tons of stock on hand to supply to their individual stores but it does mean that supermarkets will get greedy and just keep all these most wanted items for a crisis at the standard price and not put them on special.
This will sort itself out quickly. We were running low, couldn’t find any anywhere but then got it delivered by Woolworths online.

Wow, a lot more than I thought. Unless they screwed the story up again. I don't know if I can ever trust Reuters again after last night.

Can't he just look at it as a closed training session?

The US is clearly still in the early containment phase of the virus, with cases measured in the hundreds, but if you want to project how your life might be impacted in a few weeks time, consider that Italy - which has 5883 confirmed infections - is apparently about to put 10 million people in lockdown.

About 355 Billion in lost revenue to Austin from concert cancel, vs 355 Million. I think that was the figures.

Are you guys all betting big on the WSOP getting cancelled? Can I see some bet slips? +300 seems like a huge opportunity for you people.

Also, who here remembers the H1N1 media coverage? It was only 10 years ago. I will give you a hint:

https://www.businesseventsthailand.c...-9JsuxLUBi.pdf

It killed fewer people than the ****ing flu does every year and still way, waay more than Corona. Since then, media fear mongering has been cranked up to 11 and every crisis is now species-ending (remember Australia's bush fires somehow being the start of climate collapse and end of the world? They only burned half as much area as the ones in 2002 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...s_in_Australia)

This relatively new doomsday cult-like attitude is way, waaay more scary than corona imo and I am very disappointed that apparently, many poker players, who I thought to be more logical than the gen pop, also fall for this ****.

What you are overlooking is that sometimes fear mongering may be appropriate if there is a genuine threat.

This coronavirus is like a bushfire, it just keeps expanding 25 - 40% a day in heavily infected countries

Country, Cases New cases
China 80,652 +1
S. Korea 7,041 +448
Italy 5,883 +1,247
Iran 5,823 +1,076
France 949 +296
Germany 800 +130
USA 434 +115

From April 12, 2009 to April 10, 2010, CDC estimated there were 60.8 million cases (range: 43.3-89.3 million), 274,304 hospitalizations (range: 195,086-402,719), and 12,469 deaths (range: 8868-18,306) in the United States due to the (H1N1)pdm09 virus.

That's roughly 1 in 5 people in the US.
It is now endemic by the way and just something we have to live with every year. Yet somehow, back then it wasn't this big a deal - because reddit wasn't and social media wasn't.

THIS...I have a feeling once this scare kills the economy and thus any chance of Trump being re-elected, the Corona Virus will be no more news worthy than the common cold...

Italy have just announced they are closing off the north of the country, effectively quarantining 10m people. Until early April!

I hope they’ve got enough toilet roll
