How can I apply for a tin number/how long does it take? I still have the receipt and haven't claimed the cash yet. The lady at the front desk is unhelpful...

So much effort. Almost regret coming

Without the casino's help, I don't think you can get one in time to collect your winnings without withholding . It's not quick. It will take weeks or months to get it after you submit the Form W-7, even if you submit the Form in person at the Taxpayer Assistance Center in Tampa.

If you intend to instead just file the income tax return next year to get a refund of the withholding, I suggest you still apply for the ITIN while you are in U.S. at the Center. It's a lot easier to hand them your passport and get it right back then to submit "original proof of identity or copies certified by issuing agency and foreign status documents" with the W-7 with your U.S. tax return.

But note that today is Tax Day - the day most US income tax returns are due for last year. It won't be easy to get an appointment at the Center, and might be too many people in line to just walk in. You can call them up to find out. There is also a Center in St. Petersburg, and other Florida locales:

In the past three pages I've made seven posts and a whopping two of those were about O8, not sure that's turning this into my blog......

although i don't really care about O8, this seems like the proper place for those types of posts. he's commenting on a specific game at thr. i personally love trip-report-ish type posts on the B&M threads... particularly if they're about games i play.

Well not all of us use 10 post per page. I'm just not into the full reports with HH's and chip pics. Whatever though

Carry on

Hi everyone. College student here who has played a ton of NL hold em with other students. I want to try out Hard Rock but am not familiar with formal play. Do you suggest any tourneys in the Central Florida area to get a feel for playing with strangers? Or should I just go to Tampa and see how it goes?

I've had to delete a couple of posts today. Any cash/online transactions have to be posted in the Marketplace forum. Thanks.

Are you only interested in tournaments, or are you looking to play cash games as well? I'd suggest just coming to the Tampa hard rock and jumping in. You can start with the 1/1NL if you want to just get a feel of the game, though the rake will kill you eventually. Or try 1/2NL.

IMO for all the horror stories of terrible people who supposedly populate live poker rooms, it's really mostly just regular folks playing for fun. There's the occasional angle shooter and *******, but they're really a small minority. I've played with lots of students from USF here in Tampa, so you'd hardly be the only student. Come join us at the Hard rock. GL.

What I'd suggest is that you be ready for some changes to the informal way you may be accustomed to playing.

Familiarize yourself with string bets, board talk, one player to a hand, etc.

You can't say "I call........and I raise" like you see on tv. You can't splash the pot like KGB in Rounders. If you are tapping your hand on the table trying to figure out what you want to do, it's already too late because you just announced you are checking, and if you attempt to bet you will most likely be told you already declared your action as a check.

I'm probably making a bigger deal than it is, as you will find it's mostly a pretty relaxed and friendly bunch in the Tampa Hard Rock. They have 2/4 limit, 1/1 NL, 1/2 NL games, so you should be able to jump into something within your comfort zone fairly easily.

They also sometimes run sit n' gos (single table NL hold em tournaments) so that may be another way for you to acclimate yourself to the game. Have fun and welcome!

Anyone know what THR is planning for May/June tournament series. I thought the June series last year was great, but have gotton the impression that THR does not feel like they got the bang for the buck they were expecting. I think if they commited to doing this every year with tweaks it could really grow. Anyone elses thoughts on this?

I'm pretty sure I saw they were running the deeptack series again in May. Prob similar to one in Feb with the 3 events. They obv didn't have schedule out yet but I remember seeing something on Twitter about the $150 100k again in May.

on Twitter about that Summer Open series and his response was:

Don't think there going to let me move 480 slot machines this year😜
edit, he also just said:

with No ballroom it's hard to hold a Major event..I'm not a fan of killing cash games for tourneys
And I responded that it's too bad, since major events boost cash game action.

Thanks. Last year the cash games were slow during the series. They could fix that by doing some promos giving away some seats to the events during the series which would drive some more action. Also would help,if THR could get some good poker room rates at some of the hotels across from the fairgrounds during these events. It hurts that the hotel is so small and expensive.Being involved on two plus two might also help spread the word.
