LOL, good thing I don't do that.

Well, except for buying in for min. I do that.

I sure was wishing I did that when I lost my $1300 stack today though.

They have been running a good 1/2/5 PLO, that runs all day on Sundays. Its plays deep and lasts for many hours. The game usually starts around 2pm and runs until 2am +. The game is full of action players, with lots of banter.

Though it's funny. Even if that was a perfectly accurate description of me, it's far more classless and scummy to anonymously bash someone on the Internet rather than just talk to them about it.

i disagree. people bash others on the internet all the time and those are just words. ratholing is genuinely annoying, unethical, bad for the games we play, affecting far more than just one person. personally i'm fine with ratholers being called out on a public forum. spreads the message that this is not a cool or sporting thing to do, which some fresh beginners might not have known

but if you don't do that then i agree he would be the one in the wrong for jumping to a false conclusion

So if you think someone is a nice guy, but there's something they do you don't like, you think the appropriate solution is to anonymously bash them online instead of talking to them like an adult?

Well, I disagree.

I come down on the side of it's not the right place in this THR thread to call an individual out for something.

First of all, what's the point? The majority of readers don't know who each of us is in real life, so you have an anonymous guy calling out an anonymous guy. Therefore no one has any ability to determine if the accusation is true, or the denial is true.

Then what follows is a "did not"; "did to" sequence of posts that add nothing to the value of the thread. So it just junks up the thread and IMO, ruins the generally good vibe of our little THR group.

But most importantly, I agree that if you have an issue with someone doing that, then have the balls to tell him in person. For example, (and this is a really far out, never could be true example) if I had monstrous BO at the table, I'd rather someone tell me than come on here and say "man that Browser guy has monstrous BO". It's just the right thing to do.

disclaimer: I can't vouch for the absence of any hygiene related odors after more than a 24 hour session.

Another TD fail at Hard Rock Tampa:

Three tables left in the tourney. My table has six players. Seats one thru 5 are filled and I'm in seat ten. The TD (Jamie) moves a player in from another table when Seat 3 is the BB. The player tells the TD he doesn't like seat six and gets permission to sit in Seat 8. I ask the TD if he will move back to seat six later when a table breaks and our table is filled up. He says no, it's okay for this player to sit in seat 8 because it doesn't change the order of anything. I try to explain that the player is supposed to take seat 6 and should have to move back there but the TD says he's not going to discuss it, that's the way it is. I tell him it's not according to TDA rules and he rebutts that they are following WPT rules, not TDA rules.

And another one:

When we moved to the final table and were getting reassigned seating, I asked the TD (not Jamie - a different one) to stop the clock. He said he would instead add three minutes to the clock (which was just 3 1/2 minutes away from the next blind level) and it was up to us to get there in the three minutes. Between picking seat cards, moving chips and then the dealer shuffling and dealing for the button, it ran 4 minutes. Not a big difference, but still a non-standard policy and a TD fail.

i don't necessarily know if i'd call it an "appropriate solution" or the most mature way to handle it or anything like that. and yeah it would be classier to say something about it in person first. but either way i disagree with your stance that calling out the ratholer publicly is worse than the ratholing itself

i did say i'm fine with it personally but that's probably because i don't have much respect for ratholers and anything that adds negative stigma to the practice is okay with me, and ultimately might be better for poker in the long run

Who gives a crap what people think of you? In life when you do amazing things people will hate you and when you do horrible things people will hate you. **** em. There were thousands of people on Earth who hated Mother Teresa...really. Think about that. If you want to short stack and rathole...do it.

And how is short stacking and leaving bad for the game in a live setting? You guys dont know what the hell you're talking about. The only people that pisses off are same players that dont matter and are bad for the game as well.

Hoping to make a trip here some time in April. I know there's a $10k WPT in late April - are there are any good preliminary events? Couldn't find any info on the casino's web site.

Also, how's the PLO action in this room? I'd be looking to play a game where the average stack is $1500-$2k.

Thanks for any help.

I have a solid guess, but it's still anonymous unless I know.

And if so, I actually go out of my way to stay longer than I would at your tables when I don't think it's all that great a table just because I've won some (less than $100 != some), cause you seem to care.

Which is probably counterproductive for you, as you shouldn't really want me at your table regardless of my stack size.

What people think of you is both important and unimportant. It's a delicate balance of caring and not caring.

Bad for poker in general? No, but it is bad for the type of game that some people like to play, particularly deep stack lags. And really, buying in full is better for most people who take the game seriously. I just have too many years of developing my limit skills online, so I'm still buying in short as a way of getting used to NL in a way that comes closest to what I know best (not to mention my bankroll, ick!). Hopefully I'll be buying in full a year from now, but confidence in your game is the single most important thing.

Really though, I think talking about it at all taps the tank more than doing anything useful.

Were you playing on one of the PLO tables yesterday? I was playing from about 6-9:30p.

right, no recreational player has ever gotten annoyed when a shortstack doubles through them and then immediately leaves the game. that isn't fun for most people. the more ratholers in the games, the more people might just stop playing in those games because that isn't what they came to play

Much more commom, IMO, is that the fish wants to rathole, but someone doesn't like that, so they go home instead. Bye bye fish.

It goes both ways, just depends on the fish.

By the by, I did confirm with Adam that the Tuesday, April 10th "at 12am" freeroll tournament is Tuesday evening, not Tuesday morning.

I spoke with him about the "first 200 players get a seat" method. He felt that this was the fairest way to do it - first come, first served. But he is also thinking that he will give out a bunch of seats at the opening of registration 3 hours before tournament start, and then the rest over time as additional players straggle in.

I gave him my take on it, that it's more likely that more than 200 players will be lining up for the opening of registration, causing problems of line jumping, etc. I suggested the "Derby" method, i.e. the line is cut off at the 3-hour-before mark, and then everyone in line picks from a stack of cards that either say "seat" (200) or are blank (however many additional to match the additional number of players in line). That way every player that gets in line by the 3-hour-before mark gets an equal chance, and there is no need to arrive early to get in line far in advance of the cutoff time. (Which is also better for the room, as players can spend that extra time at the tables rather than in line for the tourney.)

He said they'll go with the announced method for the first one on April 1st, but will adjust if need be. Can anyone say "stampede"?

I'm thinking I should be there by 1 on Sunday for the freeroll. Will I have to wait 4 hours in line or will I be able to reg quickly and leave for a couple hours?

Seats will be handed out starting at 2pm. You can then play in the room (which is the reason they have registration starting 3 hours in advance) or go do something else until tournament start time.
