Can't speak for EBH but when I played a $550 in Vegas a few months ago, I asked and they said I got nothing because they only give points for $600 tournaments and above.

Also, just me or is a 25% entry fee extremely high?

I wouldn't say *extremely* high, just higher than others in the area. Foxwoods and Mohegan are 20% for this level of buy-in

They called the hold em and I was the only one that showed up. So I stayed at 1/3. Oh well.

I played one of the tournaments and agree it was well run. I will definitely play again.

One suggestion if someone from Encore is still reading - add more 100 denomination chips in the starting stacks. Big blind ante is great, but you wipe out a lot of the value if (especially relatively inexperienced) players are having to make change constantly so that blinds and ante can be posted.

Good suggestion about more small denomination chips in the starting stacks to make having to get change constantly a big time saver and better accuracy in posting with less dealer intervention.

encore seems to be offering three tournament products* which is why the 10k $200 is the highest raked event

the flat 20 minute levels with $30 rake (5k gtd)

the split 20/30 levels with $40 rake (10k,20k gtd)

the flat 30 minute levels with $60 rake (30k gtd)

i'm not sure what this means anything other than I'm probably on the spectrum

I’m not sure if you can or can’t. I simply ask at the Red Card desk or when they drop off my food.

I was at a 1/3 table yesterday evening where a player was pondering a call on the flop with a third player left to act behind him.

After hemming and hawing for a while and almost mucking, but still waiting to act, the dealer says to the player (paraphrasing), "You didn't want to play this hand anyway."

I do, but I am not going to out this person here. Not only because I think it is against the board rules, but because it is a crappy thing to do.

I spoke with a floor after the down was over.

Looks like there's a 20/40 mix game going right now. A little too rich for me but I'm curious what games they are playing

It was HOET: holdem, o8, stud8, and 2-7 triple draw. Not sure of the order.

Badugi, limit omaha hi, and stud hi are also candidates but weren't in that night. Razz could be a possibility too.

Has anyone heard any updates for when boxes will be available or even what the delay is?

I have heard zero about this. Supposedly the boxes use a fingerprint system and they are having issues with that. They're also afraid of people using it for money laundering or whatever.

Does anyone know about the 'deposit system'? Apparently you can deposit and withdraw like a bank teller at the cashier cage?

I keep forgetting to simply just ask the cashiers.

Most casinos will allow you to deposit money and draw on it as needed. It happens more frequently at the whale level of player. To make sure they get the type of room and VIP treatment they want, they'll wire to the casino $25,000 or more. That way they don't have to keep cashing checks or carry that much money around. It is obviously reportable, so the risk of money laundering is actually lower than someone walking in with a brick of 100s.

Hey, I'm an intermittent lurker and very infrequent poster (I can't remember the last thing I actually wrote on here!)

*edit* - it turns out I joined eight years ago and this is my first post. I've managed to surprise myself!

I've been tempted back as I have some questions about Encore as I'll be visiting from London next week and wanted to go down on the Thursday to play. I'll be playing the midday tournament most likely and maybe some cash if it goes badly and I've got time to kill (or if it goes well and I've got money burning a hole in my pocket). My questions are as follows:

- Will I be able to buy in to the tournament and/or buy cash chips using a debit card. It's a facility which is available in most places I play in London but I don't know whether it's possible in the UK. I'd prefer it as I'd likely get a better rate and I don't want to buy large amounts of $ which I might not need.
- What are the fields like now the room is a few months old, and a few weeks into running tournaments?
- Are there any particular rules I should be aware of? For instance, are deals allowed between the players toward the end of the tournament?

I'm sure more will come up as and when I think of it, so thank you both for now and for humouring my ignorance in future!

I've never been to a casino that allows using a debit card for buying chips.

Just use any ATM - that gets you the lowest interbank exchange rate available on that day. Your bank will charge you a standard service charge (Casino ATMs charge you about $5 - $7 US to withdraw as well), but there's no extra currency exchange fee attached.

Make it a low estimate of what you need at the casino and you shouldn't be stuck with too many extra $US when you leave.

In that case I'll probably transfer funds to my girlfriend's account. She's still got a US account (it's her family we're visiting) so I can avoid a bunch of fees that way. My UK bank allows free cash withdrawals overseas but it's only free for the first £200/month. Although that's enough for one bullet, even I'm not that optimistic!

As an aside, a $5 charge to withdraw cash is crazy.

Cheers for the reply.

Yes, you can do this. I do this. Just tell the cashier at the cage that you want to set up a "customer deposit account".

In case anyone missed it, weekend Orange Line partial shut-downs start tomorrow and each Friday thereafter at 8:45pm for the next six weeks. No more getting to Wellington Station from the south (or back again) in any non-convoluted way while all that is going on.
