Should everyone who has cash in the dealers tray be tipping the chip runner a buck at this point? I’ve always treated this the same as a fill, and I’ve never tipped the person who brings the fill. Sincere question not trying to start a tipping war.

I’ve never seen a dealer not tip $1-$2 to a chip runner for a fill.

I don’t know why you would think a player would tip for a dealer fill

I think the confusion is because I’m being told there are chip runners and I should tip them, but I’ve never seen chips run directly to a player, only to the dealer.

I'm curious if you don't get berated by other players if you keep using the dealer to give you chips out of the tray. It benefits the players if you do your own banking as a dealer gets out less hands per down if they have to keep doling out chips to players. Also the constant fills from making change to players has a huge impact on hands out per down. On the east coast, you will be told in no uncertain terms by the other players that you are wasting all of their time and costing them hands. Have you not found that to be the case? In the time games, you'll suffer verbal chastisement from other players if you make a habit of using the dealer for cash/chip exchanges.

In my experience the dealers want to change the cash and get it off the table. If the dealer tray is super short they’ll let the table sell chips, and then when the fill comes the dealer will change the on-table cash for chips.

I don’t remember who wrote an article about this but I found it very enlightening. If you’re a winning player, you want to make sure the dealer gets out as many hands as they can. So you don’t buy chips from the dealer for 2 reasons. First it slows the game down to sell the chips but then it also means dealers need fills more often, which also slows the game down. I hate those old **** regs at fw who all know better than to come to a table with bills but do it anyway. The floor should also instruct players to get their first buy in at the window like they do here at encore.
I feel very passionately about this subject, if you can’t tell

I think this depends on what game you're playing as well. I've only played 10/20 and 5/10 and a dealer never gives chips to a player, always a chip runner. Just simply not enough a chips in the dealer tray.

Personally I always tip a chip runner $1. My other option is to get up, walk over to the cage, wait for who knows how long, then come back. Easily worth $1 to me!

Plus 5/10 and higher is a timed game, would be really annoying for the dealer to payout to players over and over.

As someone who doesn’t play the timed games, it is equally (?) annoying. Especially when a player throws down two $20 bills, a $10 bill, 3 $5 bills, and 4 $1 bills...

...and then another $10 bill as the dealer is in the middle of counting the pile of cash that just hit the table...

Exactly. Nice to know Encore is requiring window first buys. Can't wait to play there. Hope we can meet up and have lunch or whatever when I'm there. From your postings here I'm sure you can advise me on so many levels about Encore. Keep on posting!

For all South Shore ppl in the thread it looks like the Millbury Bus also leaves from Rockland. The return trip says it takes like an hour and a half tho, don’t know what that’s all about.

I heard rumors during construction you’d be able to take a ferry from Weymouth landing or something like that, has anyone heard anything about this? Helping me get to the Casino is advisable, almost done saving a 1/3 roll I can dump to you guys between classes.

Had the turkey sandwich from the poker menu today. Normally I wouldn’t be interested in something so boring but the lemon mayo swayed me. Should’ve listened to my gut. Blah
Table mate had the focaccia. Said it was filling but blah.
Played with someone from here. He gave himself away by using “cleavage window” while we were appreciating our cocktail server. He still wouldn’t say who he was Encore Boston Harbor Casino (Everett, MA) - FAQ in OP

I have seen dealers sell chips to players at both 10/20 and 5/10 at Encore. Never for a full stack, but I have seen multiple instances of someone wanting to buy an additional $500-1000, and the dealer simply pulled it from the tray.

Yeah really depends on how much they regularly keep in the rack.

Rebuys (imo) should always be able to bought quickly from the rack, so keeping high denom chips in there to facilitate a player that just got stacked to be able to play the next hand...

And even topping off a stack easily is so much better

But again depends on what the bank is that is in the rack to be able to do so.

I don't know if it's poor etiquette, but I transferred from a NL game to a limit game with a decent stack (far over 20 big bets) last Saturday night, and the dealer was quite happy when I offered to sell stacks of red to color up (since he had quite a short fill of reds but plenty of greens/blacks despite it being 4/8). Thankfully, we managed to do the exchanges during hands early in the action, multi-way, so it wasn't holding up the table, but at least it prevented him having to call a fill, or having others sell chips.

The turkey sandwich is the only item I've tried from the menu as well. I asked for it without mayo and it came with mayo, so I wasn't really a fan. Fyi, the image at the end of your post didn't appear to load.

If the discussion on getting chips from the dealer vs. getting them from a chip runner was regarding rebuys/topping off, not the initial buy-in, then I agree with the above.

I only noticed because I was paying 4/8 O8 and when I sat down I only saw reds and whites in the seats near mine, so that's what I bought at the cage.

After I sit down, I notice some players have $2 chips (pink, rose, whatever they call them), so I kept trying to ditch my reds in the blinds. A guy across the table pushed 4 reds towards me and asked for my stack of 20 pinks. I said "no way, I'm trying to get rid of these"

As soon as said that, a voice behind me says "I can color those up for you, sir" and there's the chip runner.

He takes them, tells the dealer "9 seat has $110 behind," and is back in 5 minutes with $2 chips for me.

That's awesome table service. I always tip $2-$5 for excellent chip runner service. I appreciate them saving me time and keeping the game flowing smoothly with less interruptions on the dealer. Good to know the Encore chip runners are on the ball.

Good luck at the tables.

Tapatalk emoticons usually transform into that on a browser. There's actually an ATF thread discussing what, if anything, to do about it.

Played 1-3 again for second wed day trip.
Servers very fast for a change.
Quick buyins at cage and cashout. Let a chiprunner go ahead of me.
Had the chicken caesar salad but to much dressing.
Dealers all very good, fast and knew the rules.
Still seeing chiprunners not being tipped from players.
Def going to encore more and less to Conn.

Yes I forgot to add, the servers were on it yesterday. They actually came around faster than I could finish a drink. Bravo Encore Boston Harbor Casino (Everett, MA) - FAQ in OP

I'd like to see the $5/10 game start implementing time pots like Foxwoods did or like the Bellagio does, use the flop to determine the person/seat to pay the rake each dealer change.
