Are they expecting a bailout?

Maybe a disaster relief insurance policy that they finally put to use after 15 years of paying into it?

I’m sure there’s some type of payroll policies to protect them in these situations. They’re not the only ones do it, MGM, Caesars and some other properties through the country are also doing same thing.

Makes me believe they’re not doing it out of generosity, especially when they’ve been operating at a loss.

Insurance companies like Aflac sell supplemental insurance for situations like this where you get laid off or something unforeseen out of your control screws up your income and they will match your earnings. I think many people wish they signed up for something like that. I assume there is something similar for corporations.

There is. Of course, whether you get paid or not depends on how creditworthy your insurance company is and your state's rules on covering insurance bankruptcies.

I don't know if the supplemental insurance that PF was referring to is included, but don't most states require insurance companies to pay into a state-controlled reinsurance pool (or whatever it's called) to cover that contingency?

It is a bit like FDIC insurance. In a mass event, there isn't enough money to go around.

My comp dollars are disappearing. I read up on the policy, and they expire 180 days from when they are earned, account activity is irrelevant (unlike say Foxwoods, where ALL points remain as long as your account isn't inactive for a year). I realized today I lost my Labor Day weekend points. And I'm going to lose more in 2 weeks. I have (er, had) over $200 in comp dollars

I know with everything going on this is hardly a big deal. I'm more upset about the policy itself, given what we're used to with FW and MS. I would've made an effort to go use them had I realized.

I assume we're talking actual comp dollars and not poker ones, yes? When I heard about the 180 days I went and talked to the poker desk to check my balance and it was accurate so it appears they haven't setup poker dollars to expire unless you have them converted to red card comp dollars.

That aside, they should most definitely be extending their comp dollar expirations. Hell, my AMC A-List membership fees are paused and reward expirations are extended and that is chump change compared to your dollars.

Correct, I'm referring to the ones you can view online (non-poker).

I would hope they will extend the expiration of points longer than 180 days in these unusual circumstances. I did hear poker points are not subject to the 180 day expiration policy but who knows.

If gyms aren't going to cancel charging membership fees for the month despite being closed, I wouldn't hold my breath on a casino doing anything for us

I had my credit card company charge back for the month dues for me and my wife. I can't wait for that phone call from LA Fitness asking for the money to use their facility when the facility was closed.

Sorry, that was all my fault. I signed back up to Planet Fitness in Feb and went a total of 3 times LOL. They got me on the yearly sub too as it was way better deal than the monthly one that I had last time.

My gym called and told use they’re waiving this months fee and possible next months too

Massachusetts school closure extended to May 4th. Doubt the casinos will be allowed to open before then!

No surprise here. The casinos will follow the governors ban and will stay closed until at least April 7th. The MGC will meet again before that to determine the next step.

We wanted to reach out to let you know that our temporary closure will have no impact on your Wynn Rewards benefits.

• We are extending all tier earning periods to account for the total number of days our resort is closed.

• All COMPDOLLAR and point reward expirations have been paused.

If you have any questions, please contact your preferred Marketing Executive. They are ready and able to assist you during our closure.

(Emphasis is mine. Seems you can call them right now if there is an issue w/ your account, e.g., missing compdollars.)

Fastest re-opening would be early May but very likely to keep going. Encore is one of the few places paying all their employees and I hope they keep it going. Good luck to everyone and stay safe.

Even if they stop, given that the maximum unemployment benefit in MA is usually $742 and now there is an extra $600 being added (hopefully sooner than later) I'm pretty sure they will do close to what Encore is paying them if they have to file unemployment.

I wasn't aware they were paying their employees during the closure. Good on them, very un-casino-like.

Yup. And executives are opting out of some or all of their salaries in exchange for stock so the company will have enough cash on hand to do it.

Lots of casinos in the US are paying their employees believe it or not.

MGM, Caesars, Penn Gaming, Wynn Resorts.
So far Wynn Resorts have been for longest period of time (30 days at first, and now extended to 60) and the first ones to announce that they would do so.

Good for them, they’re creating a trickle effect for others to follow, creating a possible good standard for the industry, which in return boosts employee morale.
Props to them!

I wouldn't expect this to be the norm at all. The four companies paying their employees are each publicly traded companies who have more cash on hand and/or ability to raise capital than say a Foxwoods or Mohegan. There is also likely creative accounting that they can apply to cushion the blow.
